Blue-Footed Booby

DH and I were having a debate about whether the blue-footed booby was a well-known bird. I suggested posting a poll to FB, but we agreed that this would probably be biased, since people are more likely to respond if they have heard of it...

But here in the lovely world of mumsnet anonymity, AIBU to ask if you've heard of the blue-footed booby?

Yeh but only becuase of the kids book - You’re Called What?

CallipygianFancier · 10/04/2019 13:08

I know of them, but more in that sense of "oh, yeah, those" if they're mentioned, rather than them coming to mind if someone asked me to name a bird.

FlaviaAlbia · 10/04/2019 13:09

Yes, but only because of paw patrol Grin

HBStowe · 10/04/2019 13:11

sir David Attenborough voice yes, I am familiar with the booby.

Halloumimuffin · 10/04/2019 13:12

Everyone loves a booby.

KeptTheBeachesShipwreckFree · 10/04/2019 13:12

Yes, it was on an episode of paw patrol ages ago and I googled it.

ohtheholidays · 10/04/2019 13:15

Yes and I think they are gorgeous because they look so ridiculous Grin

Our 5DC all know as well,we've all seen them on a nature programme.

Noodledoodledoo · 10/04/2019 13:20

Yes, lucky to have seen them in the Galapagos and have pictures up of them at home. Also a bag which says I love Booby's and 2 blue feet!

Smellslikemiddleagespirit · 10/04/2019 13:23

Yes, I’ve heard of them.
It’s the sort of name that you remember really, isn’t it?

Love David Attenborough’s familiarity with the booby!

SomeLikeItTepid · 10/04/2019 13:23

Yes

F33lguilty · 10/04/2019 13:24

Have also seen them up close!

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 10/04/2019 13:29

Yarp.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 10/04/2019 13:31

Yes. I remember first hearing the name and assuming it would be an exaggerated name and then being pleasantly surprised that its feet were, indeed, extremely blue.

GiantKitten · 10/04/2019 13:33

Yes, because there have been a few videos on FB recently - I love the way they walk Grin

But the red footed one is new to me too, I'm delighted with that!

goose1964 · 10/04/2019 13:35

It's a foreign bird, we have gannets

DramaAlpaca · 10/04/2019 13:39

MsSquiz · 10/04/2019 13:42

Magenta82 · 10/04/2019 13:43

Nope never heard of it. I thought the title referred to some kind of kink.

KnittingSister · 10/04/2019 13:45

MsSquiz love it! Grin

SilverySurfer · 10/04/2019 13:46

I have heard of them but alas never seen in real life.

WhereforeArtThouManatee · 10/04/2019 13:46

No, no familiarity whatsoever

PeaceRiot · 10/04/2019 13:48

Yes, I first heard of it a couple of decades ago when I read the Kurt Vonnegut novel, Galapagos. I’ve since seen it mentioned by Attenborough and Paw Patrol.

Possibly, this thread is attracting more positive answers because people who are interested in them are clicking, even a few lucky people who’ve seen them and I don’t think that’s common. I’d say they’re fairly commonly known though.

@BarbarianMum I want one on my wall!

VforVienetta · 10/04/2019 13:51

Yes!

Allfednonedead · 10/04/2019 13:55

I used to have a t-shirt with blue-footed boobies on. My mother brought it back from the Galapagos.

BlankTimes · 10/04/2019 13:58

Yes!
