To have cancelled and refunded this?

I have an online shop. Message below from a customer.

I cancelled and refunded her as I am obviously too stupid to post her item!! Cheeky Cow! Angry

Hi there. I'm ordering this for a master's degree project and would appreciate the most expedited shipping I can afford. Not that you could possibly know what that is, but I'm willing to pay a bit more to get it sooner if that's at all possible. Thanks!

OP posts:
Sagradafamiliar · 08/04/2019 10:49

Oh nooooo 😱 hope you can salvage this OP.

bigKiteFlying · 08/04/2019 10:49

x-posts - teach me to get distracted.

FenellaMaxwell · 08/04/2019 10:50

Well this is awkward. Maybe offer her free shipping by way of apology?!

nutsfornutella · 08/04/2019 10:51

I was very confused until I read the replies. She clearly meant budget and not the actual word expedited which you definitely don't need a Masters degree to know.

The customer is trying to say that she'd like expedited shipping. She can't give a number as to the maximum that she can afford but would like a figure for that. She's apologizing for being vague and not accusing you of being stupid.

EatShitBoswell · 08/04/2019 10:51

Oh dear OP!! I understand why you took it the wrong way initially as it is worded in an odd way, but even so it's not great customer service!
I hope the poor customer manages to get what she needs elsewhere, or that you apologise for the misunderstanding and send her the order.
Come back and let us know what happens @Bottletopsx

Billben · 08/04/2019 10:52

Instead she chose to word her message in a convoluted, round-about way, which lost her the item.

And it also lost OP a custom (or two if the students warns others to not bother with OP’s online shop).

onionchucker · 08/04/2019 10:52

Eh???
She worded it a bit clumsily. She should have just asked for the price of various types of expedited shipping but her meaning was still clear.

bigKiteFlying · 08/04/2019 10:53

I wonder if she put her budget in first - then decided perhaps that was a bad idea to put a hard limit - so rewrote the sentence a bit clunkily.

DappledThings · 08/04/2019 10:54

Can't believe you cancelled her cheque

Mapril · 08/04/2019 10:54

So in your outrage at thinking you were being called a total dumbass, you made yourself look like a total dumbass.

Well done Grin

StormcloakNord · 08/04/2019 10:56

Oooh that's awkward...

RikoBitch · 08/04/2019 10:56

would appreciate the most expedited shipping I can afford. Not that you could possibly know what that is

The word "that" was referring to her budget and she probably didn't give a top figure because she had no clue what a reasonable cost would be. She probably had a wide range and would have evaluated the options when she received the information.

She expressed it in a slightly convoluted way, but for all we know, direct questions might be impolite in her mother tongue.

If you had read the message twice, rather than hastily assuming she was being rude, you would have realised

Cottonwood · 08/04/2019 10:57

Omg this is brilliant! I'm ill and it's cheering me up no end, Gollum reference especially! 🤣

Darlingheart · 08/04/2019 10:57

Very unprofessional. I hope you don't treat all your customers in this way Confused
She was only requesting to pay more for faster delivery!!!

saraclara · 08/04/2019 10:58

So in your outrage at thinking you were being called a total dumbass, you made yourself look like a total dumbass.

Ouch. But I couldn't have put it better!

MaiaRindell · 08/04/2019 11:00

It's not strange at all. She is just offering to pay extra to get the item sooner. I think you massively over reacted, and this poor customer now doesn't get their item at all.

Cottonwood · 08/04/2019 11:00

You aren't going to be very successful if you cancel orders dependent on whether you think the customer is being nice to you or not on any given day either...

Harebel · 08/04/2019 11:00

OMG LOL LOL at Gollum being in Harry Potter, wonder which house he would be sorted into! Grin

OP gracefully admit you were hasty in cancelling this order. That is a very polite request from the student who is likely bewildered at the cancellation of her order. Is it too late to fix this and send her the shipping options? Hope it can be sorted. Smile

reallybadidea · 08/04/2019 11:01

Do you really think that someone would insult you at the same time as asking you for a favour? That alone should have made you pause long enough to consider whether you might have misinterpreted the message. You were so quick to think someone would think badly of you, that you have actually done that to someone else! And lost yourself a sale in the process. I think it's worth considering why you made that assumption.

Harebel · 08/04/2019 11:01

Cancelled & refunded is the new snapped & farted...

ShirleyPhallus · 08/04/2019 11:01

The OP ain’t coming back is she Grin

Cottonwood · 08/04/2019 11:02

I suspect the OP won't be coming back but god love her if she did accept her mistake and just return and have a good laugh along with everyone (especially at Gollum which is even funnier!) 🤣

TrickyKid · 08/04/2019 11:02

Eh? What's the problem? She wants to know how much it would cost to get the item to her quickly. How is that cheeky?

IceRebel · 08/04/2019 11:03

The message was perfectly polite, but even if the buyer had been rude I don't understand why you would cancel the order. You're a business, you want to sell your items, not make friends. Confused

Candleglow7475 · 08/04/2019 11:05

Oooops 😆, tell her sorry but you’ve cancelled & refunded by mistake and ask her to order again - and tell her the postage rates which can ‘expidite’ this to her 😂😂
