Believe what a medium has said?

Has anyone had a reading from a psychic medium (or like) and had something exactly came true? Not something vague but something specific almost word for word?

Oh and Derren Brown could probably put the Madeliene McCann case to bed in a few weeks.

That hasn't been 'solved' as someone doesn't want it to be yet. People high up know what's happened. Don't think they don't Confused

KissingInTheRain · 07/04/2019 22:50

But of course, that assume telepathy exists, and the jury is out on that one, too.

Every ‘jury’ - i.e. proper investigators - ever asked have returned a unanimous verdict of “bullshit’” about telepathy. There is no evidence for it at all. Not a shred.

FraAngelico · 07/04/2019 22:55

Do explain how Derren Brown, a stage mentalist, magician and illusionist, would solve the Madeleine McCann case, Fivered. Or do you think the ‘people high up’ will come after you if you spill the beans?

NotMyFinestMoment · 07/04/2019 22:55

One last thing before I go. Just because you have never seen or experienced something does not mean it does not exist, or it is not real. I am an extremely skeptical person and extremely critical, but after sitting in a development circle for close to a decade. I am convinced that there is something that lingers on after we pass on and is in someway attached to this world. If you can correctly align your frequency with whatever it is you are tuning in to. I believe 1,000% that you can connect and form that bridge and make direct contact. I know because I have seen it happen to others and experienced it myself. I think it is one of those things though, that if you do not directly go looking for it, you will never find or experience it.

My friend reads tarot cards. I am a very sceptical person and refused her offer to read mine many times. One day I relented and she told me I would meet the man I would marry a week next Tuesday and he would look like the knight of rods card...long curly hair and bearded. Having been in an abusive first marriage I scoffed a lot. I had no intention of ever marrying again. Fast forward 2 months and I took my new boyfriend to meet her. She said "Hello knight of rods." It was really embarrassing as I had to explain to him what she meant. We worked out that we had indeed met on the date she specified and 18 months later we married. He has long curly hair and a beard, very unlike my ex. I still struggle to believe it was psychic powers but cant explain it. Really freaky and 100% true.

SweetMarmalade · 07/04/2019 22:58

I just don’t believe it anymore.

I don’t believe anyone is talking to our dead relatives.

I would love to believe they could but no one has ever convinced me.

SweetMarmalade · 07/04/2019 23:06

There’s lots of coincidences though isn’t there.

Tilly, this is purely coincidence.

I’ve had so many things happen where I’ve thought, no way! Was only thinking, talking, looking at something, someone, anything and I’ve bumped into that person, seen a relative of that person etc

Even my phone is listening to me these days and stuff I talk about at work appears in adverts on my phone (not so much coincidence but that’s another story).

I would love to think that there was another level to our existence, that we live on and can communicate with our loved ones but I’ve never been convinced that this is the case.

My grandparents once had an ouija board back when my mum was a baby. They were mucking about with the board and asking it silly questions. Then they asked it "Where is Joyce?" and the board spelled out "Dead in bed" My nana screamed and they both ran upstairs to my mum's room, where she was sleeping peacefully in her cot. They threw the board out and never touched one again.

Fiveredbricks · 07/04/2019 23:20

@FraAngelico 😂 calm your tits lovely, I meant he could pull the info out of those involved in the investigation as he is so good at what he does and manipulating people.

TwirlyWitch · 07/04/2019 23:20

Years back I was sat on a bench in a city centre feeding my 2 year old a sandwich. An elderly woman sat next to me and was cooing and smiling at him. Then she stood up nodded at me and said “And you’re going to have a baby girl this coming Spring!” She patted my head then off she went. I was only 6 weeks pregnant and my DD was born in March.
She also had about 50 long crucifix necklaces on that were all knotted up together. Confused

'I've come across the theory that it's not spirits, but simply telepathy; the medium picking it up from you and presenting it within the context of their understanding.

But of course, that assume telepathy exists, and the jury is out on that one, too.'

A part of me agrees with you to a certain degree as I suspect a part of it does have to do with 'reading' people whether consciously or unconsciously. What I will say though in my own experience of being involved with development circles is that very often information will come out that is highly detailed and very personal to a particular person but has no meaning to the person the message was given to. For example, the deceased grandparent (of the person receiving the message from the medium) wore a particular item of clothing in a particular check or pattern. Or their is some very personal information that is not well known within the family and the person receiving the information will often come back and confirm that the message was meant for them as they relayed it to say a parent who confirmed the accuracy of the information given. I've seen some highly emotional things to. The medium said she could see the spirit of a young girl running and playing in the aisles during one of the services and she kept mentioning it during the service but no one put their hand up to acknowledge who the child could be connected to. Towards the end, the medium took one woman to one side and asked her quietly if she had lost a child many many years before (decades earlier)and I believe from what I could make out it was a miscarriage or termination. The lady asked her how she knew and she said the little girl had stopped in front of the woman's lap and the medium knew it was the baby daughter she had lost. It was a very emotional scene and it appeared to be totally unexpected for it come out because it had happened so long in the past. Even though the woman was highly emotional, she appears to have been comforted by whatever she was told.

I knew someone who had a friend whose brother died in his 20's in an accident. His parents went to see him in the chapel of rest. His mum put a flower in the coffin and said "here you go son, even though you never bought me flowers", his mum and dad were the only ones in the room.
Weeks later she went to see a medium, completely sceptical about it, she didn't believe in anything out of the ordinary. This medium had never met her and knew nothing about her, didn't know she had a son who'd died.
She said she had someone who wanted to talk to her. She described him and got his description and age right, she said "he's saying sorry I never bought you flowers mum".
How can that be explained?

NotMyFinestMoment · 07/04/2019 23:42

LHMB

I have seen a lot of this type of thing too. Including someone's partner's daughter having committed suicide. Even though the reading was not for the woman's partner, because he was sitting beside her when the medium was doing the reading, the medium was getting messages for both of them including from the deceased daughter and certain details of the daughter's suicide were passed on which were highly accurate.

disneydreaming · 07/04/2019 23:54

I was always sceptical and to an extent still probably am.
I did go have a reading last year and the woman knew about a relationship I was having with a work colleague that literally no one except the person in question knew about (because we didn't want it to impact on work or have the work gossips impact on it). Literally no idea how she could have known about it.

There were a few other very specific things she knew and I cannot explain how.

She has also given me a page of notes that to look at wouldn't make sense but she talked through them.

Two of the things from that note have been spot on so far.

I have also had a strange burst of intuition as a child. I was 13 at home my dad was working (lorry driver) and my mum was sleeping after her night shift. The phone went and as soon as it rang I knew something had happened to my dad. I picked up the phone and without even thinking about it asked dad are you ok before I even knew it was him phoning. Turned out he'd been in quite a serious a crash in his lorry he was injured but ok. The lady in the other vehicle sadly died.

I can't explain how I knew something was wrong but I did. Never had an experience like that before or since.

toomuchisneverenough · 08/04/2019 00:23

I went to a clairvoyant/medium 8 years ago she told me I'd marry someone from 'dungannon' and I already knew him.

I told her I don't know anyone from 'dungannon' no one at all she said you do, you definitely do.

I thought it was nonsense forgot about it 3 years later I met my husband I did know him we went out briefly when I was 15 and he lived all his life on dungannon road... nowhere near dungannon but still.

My sister went to one a few months back there was a message to my husband the medium used my husbands name it was from a child he coached at football that took his own life. My sister didn't know this child but the medium said he really wanted to get this message to 'Mark' and knows you can tell him.

heath1977 · 08/04/2019 02:05

I recently had a reading . I didn't know what to expect to be honest but was curious after some recent bereavements , other friends who have done it and the fact that I met a medium when stuck on a plane for 5 hours and liked him so much I thought I would give it a go. He is also quite well known and so I thought it was more "legit" if that makes sense.

Overall I would say I found it an amazing and quite emotional experience
However it did send me on a bit of an emotional rollercoaster- just afterwards I was very blown away as well as emotional but also comforted by all the things he spoke of that were so accurate.

I was pleased as I recorded it (with permission) and though I had taken notes as well it's hard to remember everything from a long conversation.
I listened over a few times and the next day started to feel a bit skeptical and started finding a logical reason about things he said that could have been guessed or derived from some other information I had unwittingly divulged . There were definitely things I was able to say "oh well he guessed that from when I said this" etc AND a number of things that were totally not relevant almost laughably so. During the reading it's moving fast and you're emotional and I think at those points when he was way off I just brushed it off as was caught up in the rest.

Feeling very skeptical and questioning was a little upsetting after the high felt immediately after before really processing or digesting

But there were also things so very random and specific that I could not explain how he may have guessed them.

In the end I decided to stop picking it apart and trying to rationalize each thing, feeling a bit weird that I could have had this emotional experience that was actually just a big old scam- decided to take it for what it was - an interesting life experience that was ultimately utterly comforting . I still do not know if I believe in it or not- I really would like to believe but try and maintain and healthy dose of skepticism

heath1977 · 08/04/2019 03:11

Also in my reading I was not given predictions about the future

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 08/04/2019 06:39

As the PP said, mediums don’t predict the future but channel messages. I have seen a few at my local spiritualist church - for free - and do believe they can do this. The good ones!

My great aunt vanished many years ago - before I was born - and her husband used a local psychic who claimed she lay in a field. The police didn’t do much with the info. But I think the family generally assumed she had sadly been murdered.

BertrandRussell · 08/04/2019 07:45

Your great aunt’s story is a tragic one and I hesitate to query it, but I assume you are happy to talk about it because you mention it on here?
Why did you assume she had been murdered because she was lying in a field? Why not some sort of sudden illness or accident? And why couldn’t the medium have told you something useful that might help you find her?

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 08/04/2019 07:58

BertrandRussell

Most people have two children.

... except for all the people who have three, four, five, etc.. or just the one. Or none.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 08/04/2019 08:05

I agree bertrand it doesn’t really prove anything. It shows what people will do to gain closure. But I have a feeling she was sadly. I think if she had an accident she would have been found.

I have also heard the police use mediums. But they don’t give a grid reference for where the body lies. It doesn’t work like that

BertrandRussell · 08/04/2019 08:08

Of course. But what psychics focus on is the norm, and then they work from there “You have two children” If that’s wrong the sitter usually says “No, I only have 1”or I have 3” the can say to a younger woman “You’ll have another one” or to an older woman “But you have another in spirit” and she remembers a miscarriage. Or “But there are two you worry about more than the other one” Or just “well, I see two..” and move quickly on to the next thing. It’s very clever.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 08/04/2019 08:11

So the accurate mediums I have seen - for free - have been incredibly accurate. Giving me names and places and descriptions of people. How many children I will have. Very weird.

Equally there are a tonne of charlatans out there.

I would agree with attending a local spiritualist church

MashedSpud · 08/04/2019 08:23

I saw one years ago. It was a strange experience where he spoke in this odd language which sounded a bit like a furby while in a trance. His wife would translate the furbyish to English for everyone. I had to bite my lip several times to prevent myself from laughing.

He got one out of three questions right....well one was a prediction so I won’t know if he was right until my sixties but I doubt it.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 08/04/2019 08:44

From personal experience - and only that, I can’t speak for anyone else - I’d say there’s a very tiny minority of people who have a genuine ‘gift’, who have presentiments, or somehow pick up on something that happened in the past, or who can “see” beyond what most people see (although I don’t know how). The other 99% are clever frauds/clutching at straws. That said, I did once have a random card reading, for fun, having just had lunch with my brother who was advising me about my career, and the first thing she said, without any clues from me, was “you’ve been taking business advice from a stocky, dark-haired, Aries male.” Spot on.
