Which would you prefer? Are you a dog or cat person?

Actually Biggie doesn't always think there is food. He doesn't eat human food. Won't touch it. (We've tried.) He loves attention, especially from Daddy. Realistically I think he figures that if he comes there will be attention.

Cats all the way!

Dogs are too needy and it’s not an atttactive trait.

Loving all the cat photos!!!!

@BloodyDisgrace Resting Bitch Face. A facial expression perfected by our feline friends Grin

dirtystinkyrats · 05/04/2019 12:44

I'd rather have neither (or have only dogs but with licensed owners only).

Dogs rule

As someone else said dogs do as they are told.

So on that basis dogs as they can actually be helpful. The cat would laugh as you fell to your death than scream for help.

Dogs, dogs, dogs. Cats are evil.

MaMaMaMySharona · 05/04/2019 14:12

@dirtystinkyrats why on earth would you need a licence to own a dog?

dirtystinkyrats · 05/04/2019 14:21

So people know what they are getting into before buying one and so animals are less likely to be abandoned or given to shelters?
So dog owners have a minimal understanding about dog training before they get one?

Cats just shit everywhere so I would get rid of them altogether. Dogs can be useful, but a fair number of owners are irresponsible and so I would make the owners do a course and get a license before being able to own their first dog. All dogs are potentially dangerous if not properly trained so I don't think its massively unreasonable.

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 05/04/2019 14:35

I'm a dog owner and I'd be in favour of a form of licencing IF it included a mandatory training course.

Perhaps 3 sessions of theory before you get the dog and then 6 sessions of group practical once you have the dog. Catch up theory sessions to be offered to those who (like me) inherit or accidentally acquire a rescue dog from friends or family. 121 practical sessions for those who have a rescue dog that cannot cope in a group environment. All training to be positive reinforcement and delivered by qualified trainers.

I'd also be thrilled if vets started actually physically checking that microchip details are up to date once a year or as part of annual health checks. So many of them are out of date.

origamiunicorn · 05/04/2019 15:59

DOGS.
I don’t want to contemplate a world without dogs.

I knew my dog people would find this thread eventually. I think a PP summed it up, if I was in trouble, if my house was burning down, my dog would drag me out or go and find someone and lead them back to me (it's happened, not to me but to others) a cat would just walk over my dying body and go off to find the next person who would feed it.

Dogs are loyal to the end. You'd never see a cat excited its owner has just come home from the forces or lying on its owners grave. Dogs give unconditional love. Cats are in it for themselves and cat lovers have just fallen for it and become their servants. There, I said it. 😁

HeathRobinson · 05/04/2019 16:03

Yes, I think it could be good to bring back the dog licence. Maybe tie it to annual vaccinations in some way.

TheStakeIsNotThePower · 05/04/2019 16:13

Cats of course. Although mine left rabbit entrails in the playroom last night.

WatcherintheRye · 05/04/2019 16:24

Cats, definitely! Nothing against dogs, but how could I turn my back on this? Grin

GregoryPeckingDuck · 05/04/2019 16:29

Cats purely because their owners cause less inconvenience. Nothing quite ruins a beauty spot or a nice park like a hoard of dog owners who’re their untrained pets off the leash the second they see a patch of grass and don’t clean up after them because the poo ‘acts as a fertiliser’.

Ellabella989 · 05/04/2019 16:32

Love both but i’d go with Cats. My goal in life is to be the crazy cat lady when I retire

Sakura7 · 05/04/2019 16:38

To the people who say only dogs protect you and cats don't care, check out this video of a cat saving a little boy from a dog attack.

Penguinpandarabbit · 05/04/2019 16:48

Cat lover here - mine cuddles me all day and purrs, and DH worships her to as she sleeps on top of him at night up to his neck.
