Which would you prefer? Are you a dog or cat person?

Cats.

If dogs were in charge of Brexit, new would be exactly where we are now. If cats were in charge of Brexit, they would have looked at the outcome of the referendum, gone "Nah" and had a nap instead.

RabbityMcRabbit · 05/04/2019 08:01

Cats are superior in every way, and they are self-cleaning and also never roll in fox poo!

Villanellesproudmum · 05/04/2019 08:02

The people who are saying cats, you know you’ve had the wool pulled over your eyes right? You’ve been sucked in by their devious nature. They don’t care about you, if you no longer please them they’ll move onto another servant. I say this as my cat is observing me with its evil eyes whilst my dog is laying across my lap.

nespressowoo · 05/04/2019 08:02

Dogs for sure. Cats are evil bastards.

acatcalledjohn · 05/04/2019 08:04

My boy who thinks he’s a dog.

Dogs, on the basis that humans rely on them as assistance dogs, sniffer dogs etc.
When the first assistance cat is trained I might reconsider.

PositiveVibez · 05/04/2019 08:19

Dogs for sure. Cats are entitled little fuckers who laugh at humans and shit on their flowerbeds - urgh. They are evil looking little shits.

Dogs are always happy to see you. So loyal and cute AF.

ShatnersWigIsActuallyAMammoth · 05/04/2019 08:21

Dogs.

Because I don't get neighbours' dogs coming into my garden to take a crap all the time.

thecatsthecats · 05/04/2019 08:39

Dogs smell and their eagerness to please is weird and off putting.

This! I hate humans who are like this, it's even more unsettling when you can't talk to the offending creature!

My cats are very clear about boundaries, and explicit when they want something. They're good little Mumsnetters!

dadshere · 05/04/2019 08:41

It is a very simple answer to a very simple question. Either you prefer dogs or you are wrong/evil/twisted/psycopathic/insane (please delete as appropriate)
Dogs are man's best friend. Cats tolerate us because we feed them.

TSSDNCOP · 05/04/2019 09:03

I think the real question is which species would survive.

Cats would happily stage a global takeover if they fancied it. They're just waiting for the moment they can be bothered, and when that comes they have humans ready for the opposable thumb needs.

Dogs would still be deciding between their ball and their dish.

JuniorAsparagus · 05/04/2019 09:25

Dogs would still be deciding between their ball and their dish 😂

Contraceptionismyfriend · 05/04/2019 09:25

Cats

Fluffyears · 05/04/2019 09:26

Cats are useless, they only want humans to feed them. They go in the litter tray with shit and piss then jump up on worktops and food prep areas 🤮 at least dogs go outside. How many of you cat owners keep the litter tray in your kitchen? If I see w a house I decline to eat or drink anything.

Dogs are loyal, loving, smart and at least useful and they don’t leave skinned rodents lying around. Cats are also cruel bastards to their prey when they play with poor little creatures, either kill it or let it go.

Jamct23 · 05/04/2019 09:28

Dogs-Intelligent caring protective basically working animals

Jamct23 · 05/04/2019 09:28

And obviously very cute

For me it would have to be cats.
Since owning my 3 treasures I've been amazed by much they know.
My 3 all have very different personalities.
One acts more like a dog in that she always rushes to greet us at the door and rolls over to have her tummy tickled!
They all come to me when I call them and I find stroking them when they are purring is really therapeutic!

They are also great with my youngest who is severely disabled, and lovely company for me at night when the children are sleeping (I'm a single mum so really value that).
They are so loyal and just curl up next to me on the sofa while I'm reading or watching tele.

caramelwaffle · 05/04/2019 09:33

Cats of course!

EngagedAgain · 05/04/2019 09:38

There was a programme a few years ago that said cats would fare much better than dogs without human help. Surely, dogs would adapt if they had to? Digressing from thread title, and the subject of litter trays, I must admit I am not keen on the idea myself. I have been the owner of three cats, two of which lived to 16/17 and the only times they had litter trays, were briefly, when they were recuperating from ops, or whilst in the middle of moving house. Although I did have good sized gardens, and I appreciate some people don't have the facility, they are entitled to do what they like, but it's not for me long term.

Friedeggsandcustard · 05/04/2019 09:39

Dogs... not a dog person myself but thinking of all the working dogs out there. Dogs can cope much better with a vegetarian diet so might be more sustainable long term.

Cats don’t seem to do much apart from shit in my vegetable patch, make me sneeze and murder small animals? They might have a role in pest control but terriers can keep down rodents too.

TheFlis12345 · 05/04/2019 09:42

Dogs work hard and save lives, cats just leave fur everywhere and crap in the veg patch. Dogs all the way!

CaptainHammer · 05/04/2019 09:42

Cats if I went with my favourite but I’d have to save dogs for the reasons other posters have put (guide dogs etc)

RickOShay · 05/04/2019 09:45

Dogs. They love you and want your happiness.

Mumble29 · 05/04/2019 09:46

Here's my mog, gorgeous obviously, addicted to dreamies (aka cat crack) and will only put up with cuddles on the promise of said cat crack but she keeps herself clean, takes herself for walks/ to do her buisness, can be left for hours as long as she has enough food and water, sleeps for England, genuinely does not give a fuck.

RocketSurgery · 05/04/2019 09:47

I have a cat and I love him to pieces. But if I had to choose cats or dogs I’d choose dogs as at least owners generally make sure dogs don’t go round killing things and shitting in people’s gardens. If I could make everyone who had a cat keep them as house cats then I’d choose cats.
