Son shown his willy during lesson

Today after school the teacher has told me that my 5 year old son had pulled down his pants and showed his willy to the class during PE and tomorrow he will be missing out on his morning break time surely this behaviour should be dealt with on the day it happens? (PE was the last lesson)

Karen you are talking about a 5 year olds private parts in a derogatory way. Are your children save with you I wonder.

CallmeKaren · 04/04/2019 20:50

But Dad doesn't see anything wrong with what his son has done! Why would he need to correct behavior he sees nothing wrong with?

@Claw01 thank you he uses pecs cards at school and I've got a few for home. I'd see if I can find any for this problem

Has the teacher given you any advice?

happymum12345 · 04/04/2019 20:54

I've had this happen numerous time during changing for P.E in my Year 1 class over the years. A colleague said her husband's friends still do this in the showers after a rugby match! I've never punished boys for doing this, but told them not to and given them the NSPCC 'What's in your pants belongs only to you' message. It's such a catchy song!

SinkGirl · 04/04/2019 20:54

As a mother to two toddlers with ASD, some of the comments here fill me with dread about their future, to be honest.

When I was in reception, a boy pinched my bum and I punched him in the nose. As far as I know he didn’t grow up to be a sex offender, and I don’t have any convictions for ABH.

I've reported CallmeKaren and encourage you all to do the same.

CheeryByeNow What's that supposed to mean? You think a SEN child should be punished for not understanding social boundaries?

@Harryy I've PM'd you...I will send you some resources that will help.

parttimeateverything · 04/04/2019 20:56

I agree musicposy I teach year One and this is not an unusual occurrence, during changing for PE. They are in their pants, they get distracted, they have a look and show someone else, girls and boys. I've never seen another child distressed by this and I deal with it brusquely. " put you're shorts on" no one wants to see that " keep what's in your pants private " we don't do that in school " etc some also pull pants down by mistake because they are day dreaming taking their clothes off and keep going too far or they just come down with tights etc. Again a matter of fact reminder is fine and no child is traumatised. Most have siblings they see naked.

Friedspamfritters · 04/04/2019 20:56

This has happened in both my DC's classes at that age its totally normal, kids are interested, realise its kind of taboo but don't know exactly where the boundaries are yet. Agree next day punishments don't really work at that age, it's also never ever acceptable to remove break time from young children. It has been proven to worsen behaviour and is illogical, stupid and unhealthy.

SinkGirl · 04/04/2019 20:56

Have a look at the Visuals2Go app - my boys are just starting PECS and you can make and print your own cards. I’m making them for everything (although have not yet made a willy card, I suspect I may need one for one of my boys - still wearing vests as he’s always pulling his out otherwise)

CallmeKaren · 04/04/2019 20:58

Your definately a troll or illiterate

Amusing given the fact that you can't construct a grammatically correct sentence nor spell!

Claw01 · 04/04/2019 20:59

harryy social stories are different to pecs. You could ask school to create a social story, instead of punishment.

Did school mention the circumstances of the willy incident? Could have been for a number of reasons, particularly as he has difficulty with communication.

CallmeKaren · 04/04/2019 21:00

@TheFormidableMrsC

Why would you encourage me to be reported?

😂

BeardyButton · 04/04/2019 21:05

@callmekaren as many have said - teacher here and this is not unusual behaviour. Attitudes to body are learned. Its really important for parents and teachers to be gentle with this sort of behaviour. I use the NSPCC pants guidelines. But it takes kids time to understand all this. Best not to shame them. They need to understand that while privates are private, they are not dirty or shameful.

CallmeKaren · 04/04/2019 21:06

It's just funny that you call me illiterate. Hilarious in fact. Wink

CallmeKaren · 04/04/2019 21:07

Well this child's school obviously disagrees and feels that it is punishable (and presumably deliberate) behavior.

TheFormidableMrsC · 04/04/2019 21:08

@CallmeKaren I would rather not engage with people like you, however, as I am well aware, it takes some courage to confront issues like this when you have a child with SEN and you are trying to find ways of navigating that. You are shockingly ignorant and deliberately goady and I feel very sorry for your children.

Harryy · 04/04/2019 21:08

@Claw01 thank you I'd speak to the school in the morning.

All I was told that he pulled his shorts and pants down during the PE lesson.

It's a catholic school which I don't think should make a difference! But they are looking at moving him to a SEN school we are just starting with a EHCP my son was only diagnosed last week so it's all new to me
