In this BBC article it says "half of those surveyed said they had already bought and eaten at least one chocolate Easter egg or cake this year."

AIBU to be shocked at people just randomly buying and scoffing easter eggs before easter! It never crossed my mind. dashes off to the shops

Perfectly acceptable when broken in half and used as edible ice cream bowls

Paddington68 · 04/04/2019 15:17

We've just had Magnums in the office in lieu of Easter Eggs, I can't keep it until Easter.

StarlingsEverywhere · 04/04/2019 15:18

I've eaten quite a few caramel eggs so far, but I wouldn't buy and eat a big egg. Much more economical just to buy a bar of chocolate, you get more chocolate for your money.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 04/04/2019 15:19

I have been eating mini-eggs since they first came into the shops in February. I say eat them while you can. They'll disappear after Easter!

Hamandcrispsandwich · 04/04/2019 15:19

Easter egg chocolate is my favourite, although I haven't eaten any this year. I don't usually eat them before, but I go out on the Monday and buy quite a few of them reduced! Grin

One year, my friend brought 17 Easter eggs for all her family - They were half price. Her and her DH ate them all and when she went to replace them, they'd gone up to full price! She wasn't happy and her and her DH have never eaten eggs they brought for others since - they just buy extra for themselves Grin

I mean, I've bought an egg for DS for easter, and one for DP, and we usually get one for the inlaws too. I'm not devoid of easter fun! I just wouldn't get one and eat it by myself in the middle of March.

I think this is why they go on sale so early. So people buy them intending to put them away and end up eating them so have to buy more.

Would it be 'scoffing' if it was just a normal bar of chocolate?

Floralnomad · 04/04/2019 15:24

My dh loves chocolate and particularly loves Easter eggs , when Tesco had the medium eggs for 75p I bought about 30 of them of various types and he has about 8 left , generally has one every other night . I personally don’t eat that type of chocolate .

StarlingsEverywhere · 04/04/2019 15:28

Can people really not contain themselves for just six weeks of prayer, meditation and preparation, before hitting the chocolate?

Non-Christians are allowed to eat Easter Eggs too. HTH.

floribunda18 · 04/04/2019 15:28

Shocked is probably the wrong word, but it's sub-toddler level behaviour. See also eating the contents of an advent calendar before the actual dates.

Fair enough eating chocolate, but why not just then buy a block of chocolate rather than an Easter egg? Better value and quality.

IsolaPribby · 04/04/2019 15:29

You know the foil covered chocolate Santas and snowmen? And the foil covered chocolate bunnies? Take said foil covering off, and underneath they are the same!

floribunda18 · 04/04/2019 15:29

I do let my kids eat them before Easter if they want to though, when they are given one at school. Ekes it out a bit, there are always too many.

yearinyearout · 04/04/2019 15:29

I've been trying to talk my dc into opening theirs for us to share but they are having none of it sadly.

GlitterPixie · 04/04/2019 15:30

I’ve had some Easter eggs as they were on a great offer recently. No leaving them for Easter in this house but we’ve no young kids

NunoGoncalves · 04/04/2019 15:31

There's something delicious about Easter egg chocolate. Maybe because it's so thin, I really love the way it melts in your mouth.

cloudymelonade · 04/04/2019 15:34

Chocolate tastes better in egg shape, fact!

GoFiguire · 04/04/2019 15:36

I’ve eaten all my Easter Eggs and my children’s Easter Eggs already.

Nigel Havers made me do it.

SheChoseDown · 04/04/2019 15:38

Perks of being a mother fuckin grownup yo

chocolateworshipper · 04/04/2019 15:41

You'll be shocked to know that I have eaten 2 Easter eggs, and I'm not sorry. They were the giant Crunchie ones - with bits of crunchie within the egg - OMG it is to die for. Sod stockpiling sensible stuff for Brexit - I'm going to stockpile Crunchie eggs.

StarlingsEverywhere · 04/04/2019 15:45

Ooo, that sounds nice. I might have to have one of those, @chocolateworshipper.

Cadbury's used to do a lovely big bar of Dairy Milk with chunks of Crunchie in, the chocolate had this delicious smoky hint. I wonder if they still do those.

Springersrock · 04/04/2019 15:48

I love Easter Egg chocolate. I think it’s nicer than a normal bar

Our local Co-Op had them on offer for £1 so I’ve eaten quite a few already

chocolateworshipper · 04/04/2019 15:49

I hope you don't live near me @StarlingsEverywhere - there may not be many left in the area Wink

Babuchak · 04/04/2019 15:50

Some people wouldn't dare touching a hot cross bun until Easter - I had my first one just after Christmas! (I did think it was a tad early to start selling them, but I like them).

Nothing wrong in eating an Easter egg already. I wouldn't because I like to keep the Easter bunny magic for my youngest, but once they have outgrown that, if someone start giving us easter chocolate early, it will be eaten!

MissKenton · 04/04/2019 15:55

What’s not to love about an Easterr egg? I particularly like the hollow Easter egg itself, I like how thin it is, it makes me feel less guilty about eating chocolate (I know it’s chocolate nevertheless and I’m just kidding myself). I particularly like dipping the chocolate egg into a cup of tea! piggy
