In this BBC article it says "half of those surveyed said they had already bought and eaten at least one chocolate Easter egg or cake this year."

AIBU to be shocked at people just randomly buying and scoffing easter eggs before easter! It never crossed my mind. dashes off to the shops

All those keeping their eggs from last year.

Haven’t they gone off

And

How the hell did you keep them from ending up in a melted heap given the weather over the summer last year.

Even a jar of coconut stuff which was white and solid and kept in a cupboard melted and became a jar of clear oil

TheGrey1houndSpeaks · 06/04/2019 00:21

How or why would you keep chocolate for an entire year? Is it some kind of endurance test? My kids would have eaten them by now if I hadn’t.

squeekums · 06/04/2019 02:36

I've eaten them, dd has too
We been buying hot cross buns since January too

squeekums · 06/04/2019 02:47

Maybe shocked is the wrong word, but it seems kind of cosmically wrong to me. There's a real pleasure in waiting for things, that we seem to be losing in so many areas these days. And don't get me started on people eating hot cross buns any day except Good Friday!

Your only supposed to eat HCB on good Friday? Screw that for a joke. They should be sold year round
Eating eggs or HCB now don't affect their taste come Easter, they still yum and special, hasn't ruined them

VeryQuaintIrene · 06/04/2019 03:56

Traditionally, yes. When I was a child I don't remember the buns even being in the shops much before maybe a week before Easter. There's a reason they have a cross on them...

VanGoghsDog · 06/04/2019 11:03

Ah, the 'these days' argument is always a winner.

Hot cross buns are sold all year, just without the cross and called teacakes.

squeekums · 07/04/2019 02:55

There's a reason they have a cross on them
And in my world, that reason is irrelevant

Hot cross buns are sold all year, just without the cross and called teacakes
I'm in Aus, they tried similar here but they just don't taste the same. They use a different spice mix I swear

VeryQuaintIrene · 07/04/2019 03:07

I think that proves my point, actually, Vangoghsdog!

reallybadinterview · 07/04/2019 03:41

I've already eaten two large chocolate bunnies and an egg. Currently working my way through an egg filled with Smarties.
Easter chocolate is the best kind.

Comet456 · 07/04/2019 11:36

Hands up who eats meat on Fridays when you should be eating fish?

Inliverpool1 · 07/04/2019 11:48

It’s what Jesus would have wanted

wanderings · 07/04/2019 12:08

It was things like
"you must not eat chocolate until Easter Sunday";
"your room must be tidied every Sunday, including Easter Sunday";
"the ice cream van's music means he's run out" (I knew that was a lie) that made me long to be grown up, and free of such tyranny. Are we all enjoying a backlash against the rules of childhood?

Mind you, I do realise that nowadays, we can hardly wait for anything. A couple of days ago I ordered something on eBay; it's not due for delivery until Friday, I can't wait until then! Sad And I remember the childhood trauma of ordering stuff from a catalogue, and the small print "please allow 28 days for delivery"; and if you then had to collect it from a sorting office, that could add an extra day, or even a week if it could only be done at the weekend.

shakenfizzydrink · 07/04/2019 13:06

It’s what Jesus would have wanted

😂😂😂

Loyaultemelie · 07/04/2019 13:12

I got a large ferrero rocher one and a mini ferrero one for Mother's Day there's not a snip left!

GoFiguire · 07/04/2019 13:13

I blame the Pope for making Easter so late. In any other year it would be Easter Sunday today so we could happily eat the eggs without the fun police getting so eggcited about it all.

Only yolking!

garbagegirl · 07/04/2019 13:18

Easter for me (and therefore my kids) isn't a celebration of "Jesus zombie day" but the goddess Ostara. It's about celebrating the coming of spring so we spend the month eating chocolate if we want. We visit farms to see baby animals, plant the garden, make pretty ornaments.

Beats the hell out of limiting it to 1 day and letting the kids stuff themselves over something I don't believe in.

Notmorewashing · 07/04/2019 13:44

I’ve eaten a large one today, some mini eggs and a few small galaxy eggs so far. What is the issue !!!!! Live a little.

StarTheGirl · 07/04/2019 13:53

My dh buys and eats HCBs with a cross, all year round. And he was raised Catholic Shock.

I thought you could buy them all year in most supermarkets these days..?

AlexaAmbidextra · 07/04/2019 13:53

Shocked? What a sheltered life you must lead.

Gingerivy · 07/04/2019 13:55

Meh. My dcs wanted to get their chocolate Easter eggs early, so they did. And promptly ate them. Grin I can't say I'm bothered. It's just not that huge a deal in our house. I won't be buying any more though, and they know that.

ChuckyHereToPlay · 07/04/2019 13:56

I've had 2 but I won't be getting one for Easter since we don't really celebrate it.

labazsisgoingmad · 09/04/2019 09:43

i bought 13 eggs for the dgc over a month ago and they are still piled up in corner of lounge untouched
but hot cross buns i hate to think how many i have scoffed someone told me the other day hcb are lovely with cheese inside i am going to try that as i always have cheese with fruit cake at christmas

Megan2018 · 09/04/2019 09:56

My parents brought up an egg each for DH and I when they visited the other day. Already eaten mine.
In my defence I am pregnant and needed chocolate and this was all that we had.
I am going to replace it though as I have never eaten a proper egg early before - usually only the mini eggs and little Easter themed things.

I don't give a stuff about religion but do like chocolate and Spring is my favourite season so Easter is a bit of a Spring festival to me - all lambs, bunnies and daffs. MIL lives in Germany and is always sending us decorations although we usually forget to put them up.
