In this BBC article it says "half of those surveyed said they had already bought and eaten at least one chocolate Easter egg or cake this year."

When they are on special offer in the run up to eater they are loads cheaper than buying the equivalent in non Easter chocolate. Why would you avoid egg shaped chocolate when it’s cheaper?!

Bowchicawowow · 04/04/2019 16:26

I have given up chocolate for Lent and I am looking forward to cracking into an Easter Egg on Easter Morning. It seems weird to me to eat one before then but each to their own. Giving up chocolate for a while once a year is good for me.

MNSDKHheroines · 04/04/2019 16:28

DS bought himself an easter egg for 75p last week and explained to me how it was an absolute bargain. Cadbury egg with creme egg so by weight/value he was spot on. Proud mum moment Grin

Lweji · 04/04/2019 16:29

Surely if you’ve been eating Easter eggs all through Lent, there’s then no lovely sense of building anticipation, and nothing special to eat as celebration of Christ’s resurrection on Easter Sunday

Please explain how chocolate eggs are related to Christ's Ressurection and not a pagan tradition and totally unrelated.

SoyDora · 04/04/2019 16:30

As an atheist, I don’t celebrate Christ’s resurrection. I do like a chocolate egg though.

MsSquiz · 04/04/2019 16:32

I had an Easter egg a few days ago. A creme egg one - it's had the usual chocolate Easter egg and 1 creme egg. It cost 75p, so wasn't expensive.

I don't see the problem?

Bowchicawowow · 04/04/2019 16:33

Lent is supposed to be a period of fasting and reflection. That’s why we celebrate the end of Lent with chocolate.

SoyDora · 04/04/2019 16:33

I think its pretty pathetic tbh. Ooh I'll guzzle what I want when I want to

Err... yes? I do eat what I want to, when I want to. I’m an adult and can make that choice.
I am slim, fit and healthy. If I want an Easter egg the week before Easter, I’ll have one.

SoyDora · 04/04/2019 16:34

Yes, if you’re religious.

Loopytiles · 04/04/2019 16:35

When I did Weight Watchers it was explained that Easter eggs have lots more sugar than ordinary chocolate, so are far more calorific. I avoid buying them as I have binge eating problems: often end up eating the DCs from their GPs Blush

Bowchicawowow · 04/04/2019 16:35

Yes, if you’re religious. It’s not compulsory Grin

Loopytiles · 04/04/2019 16:36

I do think that the “food environment” is a public health issue.

StormTreader · 04/04/2019 16:38

I've had 4 already AND a chocolate Lidl hen and I enjoyed all of them! I get very excited every year over the chocolate hens which friends find very amusing :D

BloodyDisgrace · 04/04/2019 16:39

I don't give a shit, to be honest. I hate these eggs, the cheap, too sweet milky "chocolate" anyway. But if it makes someone happy then why not? Even if they are eating in while still in their pyjamas. Some things are incomprehensible but one just needs to learn to allow it.

Sleepyquest · 04/04/2019 16:40

I just ate one...what you gonna do?

slappinthebass · 04/04/2019 16:43

It's not expensive though. I'd rather pick up a £1 Cadbury creme egg Easter egg, when the creme eggs on their own are like, what? 65p? I always pick one up for DH and I when I see the £1 offers on the smaller eggs.

Treaclepie19 · 04/04/2019 16:45

YABU. I've eaten many.

cherrryontop · 04/04/2019 16:45

Easily shocked aren't you?

It's just chocolate.

Hiddenaspie1973 · 04/04/2019 16:49

You'd be horrified at us then.
We've been scoffing for the past month.

Knicknackpaddyflak · 04/04/2019 16:51

Look. Brexit. Nuff said. Pass the chocolate.

Pharlapwasthebest · 04/04/2019 16:54

I ALWAYS eat an Easter egg before Easter, the thin chocolate is so yummy!

PyongyangKipperbang · 04/04/2019 16:54

Shocked is a bit OTT but I cannot get over how gluttonous some people are when faced with chocolate.

Xmas and Easter seem to be the worst. Parents who otherwise treat their children/partners with love and respect seem to throw all that out of the window and will cheerfully steal their advent calendars/easter eggs/selection boxes. Its pathetic.

Northernlass99 · 04/04/2019 16:55

No reason why grown up adults can't do whatever they like, I am not judging, it just seriously never occurred to me that this was happening!!

No wonder they put them out so early. Craving one now!

But they were selling them for 75p in February, it was kind of rude not to Grin
