To be shocked at adults eating easter eggs already

In this BBC article it says "half of those surveyed said they had already bought and eaten at least one chocolate Easter egg or cake this year."

AIBU to be shocked at people just randomly buying and scoffing easter eggs before easter! It never crossed my mind. dashes off to the shops

I like Easter because the weather changes and the spring flowers come out. Plus the Easter eggs are nice.
I don’t like people mocking other people’s faith on this thread much. It seem a bit disrespectful to be honest.

PinkHeart5914 · 04/04/2019 23:09

Why wait for things?

Life is short, none of us are getting out alive so if you want the easter egg/ hot cross bun/ to wear your best perfume bloody well have it!

Bowchicawowow · 04/04/2019 23:38

Life is definitely short for people who eat too much chocolate according to the news about obesity.

Figmentofmyimagination · 04/04/2019 23:47

Marks and Spencer simnel cake yum. Lovely marzipan too. Feeds 8? I don’t think so. We feel honour bound to support our M&S food hall and make hay while sun shines etc, as tragically, it is slated for the chop leaving our town centre and all who shop in her utterly bereft (especially of chocolate eclairs).

Figmentofmyimagination · 04/04/2019 23:50

The hot cross bun offers are a challenge though. Buy one get one half price from about February on the eg chocolate chip ones, caramel ones, luxury fruit ones etc. I love them all. Very hard to walk past them and once you’ve opened the packet they go dry really quickly if you don’t eat them.

ilovepixie · 04/04/2019 23:57

I've eaten 4 already. I love the chocolate in Easter eggs. Much nicer than a bar of chocolate

BloodsportForAll · 04/04/2019 23:58

This is brilliant!

And yes, don't ask me why, but chocolate tastes different to me depending on it's shape. I mostly only do Cadburys. But their Easter eggs (the proper bigger than creme egg ones) which are hollow, are the best chocolate I can get all year.

I have sensory needs and wonder if this is related to that. And explains why some of us feel it tastes better in an egg shape.

bakedbeanzontoast · 05/04/2019 00:06

I've been buying them since they came out. The egg and mars bar one for a quid isn't too expensive? Mars on its own would be 60 odd p.

NunoGoncalves · 05/04/2019 01:13

I've decided I'm going to buy and eat one this weekend, but none on Easter weekend. Just because I can.

SoyDora · 05/04/2019 06:45

Ah well that’s ok then as I don’t eat too much chocolate, even if I do have the odd Easter egg before Easter.

floribunda18 · 05/04/2019 06:45

There is probably less than 1% of the whole UK that think chocolate eggs have anything to do with a 'christian' religious festival. And probably less than 0.1% of the UK have even heard of 'lent' never mind know what it is.

Then there are lot of pig ignorant people around. You should know about the traditions and festivals of the country you live in, whether or not you choose to participate. I'm not religious at all but do know about Easter, funnily enough. Did you never go to school?

VanGoghsDog · 05/04/2019 06:54

@Bowchicawowow

Nature doesn't know when Easter is so it can't be that which causes the weather change and the flowers to bloom.

Funnily enough, my village is full of daffodils already, which must mean it's fine to eat Easter eggs 😊

Ohyesiam · 05/04/2019 06:55

YABU
Incest is shocking, and trafficking.
Chocolate is not.

Bowchicawowow · 05/04/2019 07:03

VanGoghsDog what an odd post. I don’t think I am alone in associating Easter with Spring Confused

Bowchicawowow · 05/04/2019 07:04

And where did I say that Easter causes flowers to bloom? What a ridiculous thing to say VanGoghsDog.

HotpotLawyer · 05/04/2019 07:06

3 weeks ago: see Lindt bunnies on Special Offer.
But early to save money.
2 weeks ago, remember that they are there, and give in to temptation.
Buy new Lindt bunnies, now at full price.

On repeat.

PregnantSea · 05/04/2019 07:08

I'm eating an Easter egg right now Grin in my defence I am pregnant and my husband is on the night shift so it's my treat myself eat my own weight in junkfood and watch whatever I want on Netflix night.

Cushellekoala · 05/04/2019 07:16

I love chocolate. I eat it every day.....but i wouldn't buy an easter egg to eat as thats a v expensive way of eating chocolate!

headinhands · 05/04/2019 07:22

You're actually shocked?

wanderings · 05/04/2019 07:36

After my last netball game before Easter, I intend to don bunny ears and hand round some eggs; even to the opposing team! But should I wait until after Easter, in case they can't restrain themselves and the eggs are cheaper then as well ?

bridgetreilly · 05/04/2019 08:20

Made-up statistics are made up. And pointless.

And yes, OP, I'm kind of shocked that so many people do that. Anticipation seems to be a thing no one enjoys any more, and I think that's a shame. Waiting makes things better and more special. Having chocolate eggs whenever you feel like it takes away some of the enjoyment, imo.

StormTreader · 05/04/2019 09:52

If all the hard-faced self-flagellating people are getting too much satisfaction from the denial of delicious chocolate to actually face eating theirs, I will take it off their hands as a noble favour to them Grin

Lweji · 05/04/2019 10:53

It's Friday and it's Lent. I wonder if the chocolate shocked people are avoiding meat and any treats today.

outpinked · 05/04/2019 10:54

When you can buy a fairly nice one for a pound it’s cheaper than getting a couple of small chocolate bars so I’m really not surprised.

ToEarlyForDecorations · 05/04/2019 11:05

*They are 99p in Lidl.

I’ve had 500 Easter eggs so far.*
