In this BBC article it says "half of those surveyed said they had already bought and eaten at least one chocolate Easter egg or cake this year."

AIBU to be shocked at people just randomly buying and scoffing easter eggs before easter! It never crossed my mind. dashes off to the shops

OP posts:

an Easter egg is a stupidly expensive way to buy chocolate

Only it's not. Several posters have mentioned the cheap deals that make the eggs value for money over single bars.

NunoGoncalves · 04/04/2019 17:24

Anyway I haven't had any yet. My preferred tactic is to hit Tesco on the Tuesday after Easter. All eggs are then reduced by at least 50%, often more, and you can buy a bundle for next to nothing. Yum.

AdoraBell · 04/04/2019 17:24

I eat chocolate like there’s no tomorrow, but Easter eggs are probably the most expensive way to buy chocolate so no, I don’t eat them. I do buy them for DC.

katseyes7 · 04/04/2019 17:25

ls it just me, or is Easter Egg chocolate nicer than 'ordinary' chocolate? l don't know if it's because it's thinner, but l think it is. Every year l say l'm not buying any Easter Eggs, and every year l fail. My circumference is testament to that.

mizu · 04/04/2019 17:25

For some reason, I enjoy eating Easter egg chocolate more than a bar of chocolate so I have bought a couple in the last few weeks.

The big posh eggs are expensive but there always seems to be a price war a few weeks before Easter for the smaller general eggs and childrens eggs. They are usually quite expensive the week or so before Easter for the late getters.

Grown up DS bought me a luxury Easter egg (that I'd enthused about) for Mother's Day last week.It felt really indulgent to have it all to myself - and three weeks before Easter. Not much left now.

goingonabearhunt1 · 04/04/2019 17:35

I like to save the big egg for Easter but surely mini eggs and creme eggs etc. can be eaten any time of year? Though I'm worried now from reading these posts that there won't be any left when I look! Grin

sweepsweep · 04/04/2019 17:36

DH's Granny gave DS (2) an Easter egg about a month ago, when we went to visit. I discovered the packaging in the bin and made DH replace it. I've been at the mini eggs, but I eat those all year round thanks to B&M

DreamInDreamer · 04/04/2019 17:37

Planning ahead ( and feeling smug) I got my Easter eggs etc on this week's Ocado delivery. I've learned from bitter experience that too many seasonal items go Out Of Stock if you leave it too close to the event.
Imagine my disappointment when one of my Ferrero Rocher Squirrels arrived damaged. There was no option other than to eat it , to avoid my children's disappointment. I then had to eat it's companion... because I couldn't give one to one child and not to another....

londonrach · 04/04/2019 17:40

Not sure im on my 4th or 5th egg now...just opened the. Mini egg today

StarlingsEverywhere · 04/04/2019 17:42

I guess it depends on what kind of chocolate you like. I generality prefer very dark chocolate like Lindt 70% or higher bars. So while it would be possible to get a shedload of eg cheap Buttons/Smarties type eggs fir much cheaper, if I wanted a dark Lindt egg (if such a thing exists), it would cost much more than a couple of bars of Lindt chocolate. Therefore it’s not worth the money for me, though I wouldn’t mind being given a nice one at Easter. I fancy that Crunchie egg mentioned above but it’s £10-12! Makes more sense to buy three Crunchies and a bar if Dairy Milk with Crunchie nuggets.

Bowchicawowow · 04/04/2019 17:52

It does seem like nothing is special any more. We are all guilty of the because we’re worth it mantra and I am not sure we’re better off for that.

Polarbearflavour · 04/04/2019 17:54

There are some really strange comments on here. Who cares if people eat Easter eggs? Hmm

ALongHardWinter · 04/04/2019 18:11

Shocked?! Have you led a sheltered life OP?! It's only chocolate in egg form!

GummyGoddess · 04/04/2019 18:24

A bar isn't the same. I like the thin brittleness of the eggs, plus there isn't a bar of just malteser chocolate to buy, only teaser bars!

ScarletBitch · 04/04/2019 18:43

I do not know anyone who would not open an Easter Egg early! All part of the fun when you go buy a replacement Grin

ScarletBitch · 04/04/2019 18:43

@ShirleyPhallus agreed! Wine

ForalltheSaints · 04/04/2019 18:46

People eat chocolate? Do cats miaow and dogs bark? Is the Pope a Catholic?

Lockheart · 04/04/2019 18:49

If they're counting Mini Eggs and Creme Eggs in that then I too am guilty. I fucking love them and they tend to only come round once a year!

Actual Easter Eggs though, no.

Siameasy · 04/04/2019 18:52

I didn’t actually know that people did this. Easter egg chocolate is really nice. Personally I wouldn’t eat it early as it would be something I’d look forward to, especially if it was a red Lindt balls one 😍

sanityisamyth · 04/04/2019 18:55

Not even my 5 year old DS has eaten his Easter egg!! He gave it away to his bus driver as a thank you!!

ScarletBitch · 04/04/2019 19:00

@nannybeach spot on, my youngest had a Turkey with all the trimmings at school yesterday for lunch, and it's been on the menu all term!

Princessmushroom · 04/04/2019 19:01

You’re shocked? SHOCKED?

I’ve eaten Easter eggs because Tesco has Cadburys for 75p which is cheaper than buying a chocolate bar
