Because they completely ignore the proven illegalities around the Leave campaign that would have made void the result had the referendum been binding.

Where are all these degree waving graduates? I ask because in all my time on this earth I've never seen anyone waving one. Not ever.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/04/2019 16:49

Are the leave supporters on this thread happy with how the WTO makes its rules?
Are they looking forward to the next WTO elections?
Do they expect the UK's wishes to be met by the WTO?

oh talkin, you know you cant ask brexiteers questions about brexit. they are far too busy arguing how intelligent they are.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 04/04/2019 16:51

I was helping DH go through CVs for a post for his business and nearly all of them had really obvious spelling and grammar mistakes. So I'll say it again - less educated does not equal less intelligent.

That's not a particularly good example. Grammatical and spelling mistakes left in a CV are due to a lack of accuracy and attention to detail, which are governed neither by education nor intelligence.

What really pisses me off is the retconning that the leave vote was a vote to leave all institutions of the EU, and for a hard Brexit.

That wasn't the question put to the electorate, nor how it was framed by the Leave campaign.

Excellent thread here:

Who’s applying for a job as a mechanic and waving a degree certificate to get it?

Helmetbymidnight · 04/04/2019 17:04

thats the kind of thing remainers do Grin

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/04/2019 17:05

Although those who turn up for a mechanics post with a law/physics/ teaching/nursing/ (insert any other) degree can't be laden with much common sense

Wouldnt disagree with this

Does he honestly get nurses wanting to be mechanics...people are weird

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/04/2019 17:07

What really pisses me off is the retconning that the leave vote was a vote to leave all institutions of the EU, and for a hard Brexit

Absolutely

Seymoursyourfriend · 04/04/2019 17:27

Rufus. Yes he does. Their whole CV covers what they have learnt about nursing during their degree course. Nothing at all that shows interest in engineering or mechanics.

Thinking about it I wonder if it's because the Government demand that people, who are out of work, show they are looking for employment. Complete waste of everyone's time.

Caucasianchalkcircles · 04/04/2019 17:30

Sorry but if people think that leaving the EU without a deal will have no serious consequences for the uk then they are either naive, uninformed or unconcerned about the fate of the poorest and most vulnerable in our society, not necessarily thick and irrelevant whether they are graduates. Simple.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/04/2019 17:36

hinking about it I wonder if it's because the Government demand that people, who are out of work, show they are looking for employment. Complete waste of everyone's time

Yeah that's probably right

Alsohuman · 04/04/2019 18:13

With a shortage of 40,000 nurses, it’s difficult to believe they’re applying for jobs they have zero chance of getting. Forgive my scepticism.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/04/2019 18:19

also

I doubt the nurses bit as well...just seems an odd one

But I suppose its not outside the realms of possibility

People do burn out of jobs...or find that they hate it

MattFreisWeatherReport · 04/04/2019 18:30

Today's YouGov poll is 44% no deal leave and 42% remain.

Fake news unless you also quote the context of the question that was asked: which would you choose if there is no signed withdrawal agreement and the EU won't grant a further extension.

It's really irresponsible to propagate rubbish like this. Angry

ForalltheSaints · 04/04/2019 18:36

Leave voters (well most of them) were happy to vote in the general election of 2017 where a Conservative majority of only two years before became a hung parliament.

Some Leave voters I think complain alleging a lack of democracy because all the things they thought would be the outcome of a Leave vote have turned out to be illusory, and others such as the border in Ireland never figured.

NorfLondon16 · 04/04/2019 18:38

It's not really surprising that Leavers view on democracy is somewhat biased.

I find it laughable though, that a big part of the Leave campaign was around "Parliamentary Sovereignty" and now they don't like that the Parliament has voted against a "No deal" option. So, what the Leavers seem to mean with Parliamentary Sovereignty is not really that but more of a dictatorship where the Parliament act as per a pre-set (Leavers) agenda.

Their view on democracy is certainly not democratic. You couldn't make it up!

Helmetbymidnight · 04/04/2019 18:47

The thing is, the Brexitteers like to go on sites like this, throw in the words 'democracy' and 'sovreignty' and then if you ask them what they mean, they just disappear.

I've never ever debated with people like it. (Unless maybe you count anti-vaxxers or climate-change deniers.) Even asking a brexitteer what they are most looking forward to post-brexit, is met with a blank. It's mystifying.

TalkinPaece · 04/04/2019 18:52

Here is the actual YouGov data
yougov.co.uk/topics/politics/articles-reports/2019/04/04/what-do-public-think-about-no-deal-brexit
THe bulk of those asked have more common sense than the ERG

Alsohuman · 04/04/2019 18:52

Or else they say they’ve already told you eleventy billion times so can’t even bother to copy and paste what they’ve apparently said before.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/04/2019 19:00

really? you think thats normal to go on debating threads throw in your unsubstantiated opinion andnever reply to any questions, never provide any evidence, never 'debate'?

wow, thats told me.

Alsohuman · 04/04/2019 19:06

What? I was agreeing with you!

Seymoursyourfriend · 04/04/2019 19:13

With a shortage of 40,000 nurses, it’s difficult to believe they’re applying for jobs they have zero chance of getting. Forgive my scepticism

Believe what you like. 33,000 nurses a year are leaving their jobs. Hospitals and nursing homes are being shut down. Morale can't be great for nurses. I fail to see why someone who is/used to be interested in caring for people become interested in working in a nuclear power plant. But there you go... I'm not a nurse and I have no interest in engineering or mechanics. What do I know?

Helmetbymidnight · 04/04/2019 19:17

soz Grin thats very true!

Anon10 · 04/04/2019 19:59

Lefields you are so misguided. The poor will suffer the most after Brexit. Wait to see how bad things get after we enter the deepest recession in living history. Who do you think will suffer the most from a prolonged and severe austerity?
In relative terms, I’m a fairly wealthy professional. I could afford it if the cost of living rose, or if I had to pay for private healthcare, or even if my DH lost his job, we could survive on one salary. But what if I wasn’t in this position? If I lived in social housing, relied on benefits and was completely dependent on the NHS if I ever became ill? Do you honestly believe I would suffer less in these circumstances. This is a delusional view. If leavers’ opinions were not so clouded by their anger at scapegoats, they could maybe see how much Brexit is going to hurt the most vulnerable members of our society far more than the affluent.

TalkinPaece · 04/04/2019 20:06

The Brexit vote was driven by anger about

  • shortages of affordable housing
  • resources shortages in the NHS
  • resources shortages in schools
  • cuts to working age benefits
  • zero hours jobs and the gig economy
  • the lack of local decision making powers

sadly Brexit will make all of them worse not better
as none of them were ever anything to do with the EU
