AIBU to think that Leave voters who complain about a lack of democracy are hypocrites?

Because they completely ignore the proven illegalities around the Leave campaign that would have made void the result had the referendum been binding.

But less educated means less educated - and that is a fact. You do understand that, right?

I know what less educated means thank you.

There's a few other lovely examples of remainers opinions on leavers just above yours. Bigoted, hypocrites, 'badly' educated and umm..oh yes..thick.. again 🙄

I have to deduce from this that 17.4m people are (insert any word you like). Whilst anyone who voted remain are degree waving, superior beings who know it all right? Because that's the way these threads always go.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/04/2019 16:03

As brexit hasn't happened, nobody has lost their job due to brexit

Un-fucking-believable.

Seymoursyourfriend · 04/04/2019 16:04

Caucasianchalkcircles

People turn up for a mechanics job waving their degrees ! Really ?

Yes really. Do you have a problem with that?

Helmetbymidnight · 04/04/2019 16:05

It's a fact that Leave voters were less educated than Remain.

This doesn't mean all remainers are well-educated. DH left school at 16. It doesn't mean all leavers are poorly educated. See JRM.

But it is what it is. I'm sorry you can't seem to understand that.

Alsohuman · 04/04/2019 16:07

What kind of degree fits you to be a mechanic?

fc301 · 04/04/2019 16:10

@BuckingFrolics I am highly educated, very intelligent and inclusive. But you carry on if it means you can dismiss half of the electorate.

I am sorry to PP who thought my post was aggressive. It was not intended that way. But I am sick to death of being lectured at by people who are not interested in my point of view.

Mostly I'm just sick of politicians.

CatsinSpace · 04/04/2019 16:11

Less educated does not mean less intelligent.

Some of the most intelligent people I know have never been to uni or completed a degree.

Some of the most stupid, lackadaisical people I know do have degrees.

Anecdotal, yes. But also true.

TalkinPaece · 04/04/2019 16:12

Are the leave supporters on this thread happy with how the WTO makes its rules?
Are they looking forward to the next WTO elections?
Do they expect the UK's wishes to be met by the WTO?

Umm... Mechanical Engineer is the prefferred degree. However, DH gets people turning up with degrees of any description, including law degrees, because they think a degree will get them any job. Problem is degrees are now 10 a penny. Everyone has one. Most end up working in at Tesco, along with the less well educated. Did you vote leave?

CatsinSpace · 04/04/2019 16:17

The WTO is ‘member-driven’, with decisions taken by consensus among all member governments.

Taken from the WTO website.

LaurieMarlow · 04/04/2019 16:18

So, similar to the EU then?

I would have thought it fairly uncontentious though that someone with a degree is less likely to be stupid than someone without. It's not proof, but generally it's the case even if you know some exceptions.

Alsohuman · 04/04/2019 16:20

The reason I asked is because mechanics used to do apprenticeships and I thought that was still the case so there's no need for the patronising sneering @Seymour. And, no, I waved my degree at the count clerk as I voted remain.

CatsinSpace · 04/04/2019 16:21

Similar, yes. But it's main concern is trade, as was the original EEC. Not political.

I see no evidence of democratic accountability in here

The degree incidentally that I got when only 5% of the population had them.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/04/2019 16:23

My DH is a mechanic. He has always said people who turn up for interviews, waving their degrees, might be academically brilliant. But they have no common sense. I think he's right

Well i think he is wrong

SOME people with a degree have no common sense
SOME people with a degree do have common sense

SOME people without a degree have common sense
SOME people without a degree have no common sense

TalkinPaece · 04/04/2019 16:24

But it's main concern is trade, as was the original EEC. Not political.
And it does not cover services
a slight problem for the UK

then again, since when was trade not political ?

Seymoursyourfriend · 04/04/2019 16:25

Yes they did. Nurses also used to do nurse training on leaving school. Now they have to have a degree.
Paramedics used to work their way up from Out Patient drivers to Emergency Technicians and then Paramedic. On the job training and extra courses.

Now they have to have a piece of paper saying they can write a good story. That doesn't mean they are any more intelligent than those who don't wave that paper, or that they are any good at the practical job.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 04/04/2019 16:26

Pretending more educated automatically means more intelligent is something only those without critical thinking skills fall into

Hmm This really isn't what you meant to say, is it!

'Pretending' is a word you seem to use a lot, Lurker, almost always incorrectly. What you mean in the above sentence is 'Believing'. Pretending requires the knowledge that what you are doing or saying is not reality. Therefore people who are pretending more educated automatically means more intelligent know perfectly well that it doesn't and, in that sense at least, their critical thinking skills are quite adequate.

Alsohuman · 04/04/2019 16:34

Thank you for explaining the world of work to me @Seymour, I'm very grateful that you've taken the time and trouble to educate me. You've clearly succeeded where my Russell group university failed all those years ago.

CatsinSpace · 04/04/2019 16:35

Herward

Have you seen some of the nonsense degrees out there?
When you have graduates (as a pp has said) stacking shelves alongside a less educated person, who is the 'soft' one?

I was helping DH go through CVs for a post for his business and nearly all of them had really obvious spelling and grammar mistakes. So I'll say it again - less educated does not equal less intelligent.

HateIsNotGood · 04/04/2019 16:35

WTO does cover Services Talkin - the below is taken from your second link

^Third level: councils for each broad area of trade, and more

Three more councils, each handling a different broad area of trade, report to the General Council:

The Council for Trade in Goods (Goods Council)
The Council for Trade in Services (Services Council)
The Council for Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS Council)^

Seymoursyourfriend · 04/04/2019 16:38

SOME people with a degree have no common sense
SOME people with a degree do have common sense

Yes I agree.

Although those who turn up for a mechanics post with a law/physics/ teaching/nursing/ (insert any other) degree can't be laden with much common sense.

That's the point I was making. Along with all the post graduate idiots that are ruining our country. It was in response to posters who insist all leavers are ill educated, not well educated, thick... I was making a point that not all degree waving people are more intelligent than those without that piece of paper.

Not all remainers have received the best education. Not all leavers are poorly educated.

If you follow the link, to here

you'll see that the WTO has merely reflected the GATT services deals and they have not been updated since 2000

so not exactly forward looking ....
