AIBU?

To say no to this hen party request?

I’m due to go on a hen party next month, it’s DPs family member although we’re fairly close

The whole thing is a surprise for the hen so all of my info is coming via text from one of the bridesmaids who I’ve never met

I’ve recently been told that I’m to wear a specific colour, it’s a colour I don’t wear at all and I would have to go out and buy a whole new outfit for it, which I hadn’t originally planned to do plus it would literally be worn once so it feels like such a waste of money

The whole wedding plus stags and hens is already costing us a lot of money and this is yet another expense that we really can’t afford

WIBU to just say no, I’m not wearing that colour, but I’ll avoid being in pictures so as not to ruin them (which I’m fairly sure is the reason for the colour scheme?)

I’ve never met any of these people before, if I say no will they all hate me before I even get there??
Should I just suck it up and buy a new outfit?
I don’t want to be the awkward one who refused to join in
Confused

Go to primark and buy something. It'll be less than a tenner.
Once you're on the hen and having a good time, you won't give a shit and you'll be glad you didn't cause a fuss.

@BlackCatSleeping more odd than baby pink?

more odd than baby pink?

Of course! Pink is often chosen for hen parties as it's considered colorful, feminine and fun.

Black is commonly seen as somber and serious.

I bet if you Google "hen party", you'll see a shit ton of pink in the results.

@curiousierandcouriser as the hen is a surprise that would be a really mean thing to do!

Pretty little Thing has tonnes of cheap —rubbish— pink clothes, just type pink in the search bar, I am sure you can find something cheap on there that could then be donated to a good cause afterwards.

You have already invested this much, I would grin and bear it.

YANBU.

Hen and stag parties have gone nuts. People think everyone is made of money and can't wait to spend it and all their annual leave on the Wedding Of The Century. When you are the stage/age where you might have three weddings a year to get through it's outrageously presumptuous of people to have such ludicrous expectations.

It seriously cheeses me off.

You could buy a cheap white dress (more choice for cheap stuff) and put a red sock in the washing machine with it 😁

You don’t sound like much fun. Just go and buy a heap T-shirt or don’t go.

This is £10 h and m.

Although I hate people demanding what I wear, I do love a good shopping challenge 😂

Hope all the hens going are size 10 and under!

Baby pink is hardly flattering on a curvier lady.

I am size 12 and would look huge in a dress that colour which would make me miserable all evening. 😨

I would be ducking out developing rampant d & v

Just me who thinks it’s odder to wear a pashmina on a night out than just go to new look or primark and buy a top.

Report
kmammamalto · 03/04/2019 06:47

@Delilah haha just what I was thinking! A pashmina will cost more than a dress from asos/Primark!
Get something cheap and get on with it in afraid OP. It's not about you!

It just seems wasteful to me to buy a new dress and sometimes when you buy stuff online it doesn't fit right or it doesn't suit.

The OP has a black dress that she already owns and feels comfortable wearing, so, for me, I'd find it easier just to buy a scarf or something to wear with that than risk buying a new dress.

I'm older though. I would feel a bit embarrassed going out in a cheap baby pink dress.

Don’t go - for their sake. From your op you will sit there like a sour puss and be a total fun sucker. Go with good grace or don’t go at all

PP has the right idea -
www.amazon.co.uk/Ladies-Costume-Sandy-Jacket-Halloween/dp/B07GBVY6PY/ref=sr_1_6?s=gateway&keywords=pink%20ladies%20jacket&qid=1554270838&sr=8-6&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

(check sizing - you need to go one size up)

So...you can wear something black and stylish underneath and put on the naff jacket for all the photos. You then have said jacket as memento or give it to the bride afterwards or can keep for halloween/bs fancy dress.

I havte the 'by the sounds of it you aren't really keen/good friends with' crap that get a dragged out on MN.

The OP has said she's spent a lot already on this wedding - ffs brides and their silly demands!

OP I'd wear black with a token colour accessorie. When you're out they're be lots of other people not dressed in baby pink (🤞), you'll blend well with them!

Pink's my favourite colour but I wouldn't go anywhere that dictated like this. They sound crass.

Fair enough not to like the idea but don’t go with a bad attitude or you will be a Debbie Downer. Just make an excuse.
