To say no to this hen party request?

I’m due to go on a hen party next month, it’s DPs family member although we’re fairly close

The whole thing is a surprise for the hen so all of my info is coming via text from one of the bridesmaids who I’ve never met

I’ve recently been told that I’m to wear a specific colour, it’s a colour I don’t wear at all and I would have to go out and buy a whole new outfit for it, which I hadn’t originally planned to do plus it would literally be worn once so it feels like such a waste of money

The whole wedding plus stags and hens is already costing us a lot of money and this is yet another expense that we really can’t afford

WIBU to just say no, I’m not wearing that colour, but I’ll avoid being in pictures so as not to ruin them (which I’m fairly sure is the reason for the colour scheme?)

I’ve never met any of these people before, if I say no will they all hate me before I even get there??
Should I just suck it up and buy a new outfit?
I don’t want to be the awkward one who refused to join in
Confused

So yes YABU because you can accessorise cheaply and most hen parties want you to get/wear something so you’re actually getting off lightly. You aren’t being made to buy/wear a certain T-shirt which I did for a hen party that cost £15!

@BlackCatSleeping: What's this thing with Molly Ringwald and quirky characters and bizarre clothes? Did you see "Betsy's Wedding?" Molly Ringwald again.

She was a cutesy, unconventional, rather vomitously free spirited character who took a normal wedding dress and re-made it a couple of hours before her wedding to suit her unique self. I paid good money to see that at the cinema.

I think you’re being petty to be honest. I’m sure you could sort something from a charity shop of friends wardrobe or whatever if you wanted. But you clearly are feeling put upon so just make an excuse and bow out.

The only thing worse than an unwanted hen invite are the miserable people who show up but whinge about the hen party because they didn’t have the guts to decline.

Could you not ask one of the other hens?

I still don't get why people are suggesting just a pink accessory. if you were invited to Black Tie party would you wear your ballgown with slippers and a beanie? Or leggings and opera gloves? NO! You wear the theme for the entire outfit. The theme here is a complete baby pink outfit.

T-shirt from www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0718278004.html H&M for £3.99

Bloody Hell Sparrownest!

Is that model one of the Undead? I haven't seen teeth like those since Christopher Lee in "Dracula Has Risen From The Tomb" (spoiler: - not for long, he didn't!)

The ridiculous culture we've got into of the last 20 years where clothes are cheap enough to consider disposable is driving further exploitation in a predominantly female-staffed industry - as well as filling the oceans with plastic microfibres from your £5 polyester dresses.

I'm seconding *DameFanny's" exhortation here.

Can you not borrow something from a friend with appalling taste, OP?

I also agree. I mean I'd buy something off everything5quid. But I swear I'd wear it til it dies a death. If I didn't like the colour I'd at least wear it as a pj top or something. I was raised with not much money so clothes and shoes get worn till their seethrough here
