But my DP is insistent it should be him Sad my reasoning is I'm the one stuck at home with the kids so surely it would give me more freedom, instead of relying on him or waiting for him to become available?
Who is BU

You can get 3 kids in a 5 seater car.

PurpleDaisies · 30/03/2019 14:22

My friend has 3 under 3 in a regular car. All in the back seats.

grainykite · 30/03/2019 14:22

Ok... I obviously wasn't aware of that

Confused
GruciusMalfoy · 30/03/2019 14:24

Does it really matter why OP wanted or needed a 7 seater? She has it now, there's no point in going over it.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 30/03/2019 14:24

I think it was silly to spend money on a car when you can't afford lessons.

Also, the car needs to be driven, you can't leave it unattended whilst one of you learns to drive. Batteries and tyres go flat, things seize up. You need to drive it once in awhile.

And even whilst it's off-road & undriven you still need to insure it (fire and theft).

Generationrenter · 30/03/2019 14:26

You should learn. How Far is his work? Could you compromise and say you’ll drop him or pick him up from work x days a week?

Lazypuppy · 30/03/2019 14:26

£1890 isn't a lot for a car?

Why can't you each just pay for your own lessons? Or share 20 lessons, so motivation to each learn in 10 or something?

grainykite · 30/03/2019 14:26

You do not need insurance for a SORNd car Confused as yes I'm well aware it still needs driven.

OP posts:
grainykite · 30/03/2019 14:27

It's a lot for us, my partner doesn't even earn that a month!!
Because I don't earn any money so can't pay for my own

Lazypuppy · 30/03/2019 14:27

Oh and agree, car will probably need loads doing to it if its sat on a driveway not being driven for 7 months. You'll need to save money for that too.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 30/03/2019 14:28

You do not need insurance for a SORNd car

In your financial circumstances, you do. As I said you need to insure it for fire and theft. Can you afford the loss if it gets stolen?

grainykite · 30/03/2019 14:29

I'm not sure why you'd be confused at the fact I didn't know you could 3 car seats in a regular car? Most people have bigger cars with 3 car seats.
Even the lady we got the car off had it for 3 car seats, but now has an even bigger one.

OP posts:
grainykite · 30/03/2019 14:29

It's in our garage so shouldn't be stolen

My parents did this kind of crazy thing back in the 70s. Bought a car but never had enough money/time to learn how to drive and the car ended up being scrapped because it had seized up!
NEVER buy a car before you know how to drive.
It's bad luck!

PurpleDaisies · 30/03/2019 14:31

You have been saying how expensive 7 seaters are and yet you didn’t even think to google whether something smaller might work for you.

grainykite · 30/03/2019 14:31

Will definitely be doing driving before the end of the year, We desperately need it! And have had lessons before so we both know the basics of driving

ShirleyPhallus · 30/03/2019 14:31

How old are you OP?

FleeceDetective · 30/03/2019 14:31

A bargain car that won’t get driven for 6 months plus? Are either of you particularly mechanically minded?

Why don’t both of you book your theory test at the same time, if either of you fails then it will mean the other is ready to go.

QueenBeeNotMe · 30/03/2019 14:32

If the car is being driven to work and parked there, it’s a waste. So you take lessons first, give yourself a time limit. If you don’t pass, it’s his turn.

Tell him when you pass you will drive him to work a couple of tomes a week as a sweetener 😁

IceRebel · 30/03/2019 14:32

Can you actually afford to learn how to drive? Not a judgement, but leaning can be expensive and if it's a one income household I assume a lot of your husbands wages are already accounted for.

ShirleyPhallus · 30/03/2019 14:32

Did someone that can drive have a look over this car before you bought it? Fairly risky to buy a second hand car if you don’t know what you’re looking for....

alrightdoll · 30/03/2019 14:33

Sell the car for more than you paid since you got it for a bargain and then you can both use the money for driving lessons.
When you have passed buy a cheaper normal sized car (I paid £380 for my 5 door Ford Fiesta 3 years ago and it's never needed to be in the garage). Surely this makes the most sense.

grainykite · 30/03/2019 14:34

Most of them can't comfortably fit 3 car seats purpledaisy. I have had a quick look but seems far easier just to buy a 7 seater. Let it go already.
Yes 1 of us can afford to learn to drive, we've amounted a wee bit of savings.
What does my age have to do with it Confused

OP posts:
grainykite · 30/03/2019 14:35

Yes the car was looked at before buying
