AIBU to say no to house viewers using my toilet?!

Ok so I’m currently selling my home and I’m astounded by the number of people who ask to use the toilet! I just don’t get it, yeah sure small kids I can understand they can’t always hold it. But surely if you are an adult in strangers home you can hold it and pop into the petrol station/ cafe before or after?! I’m not talking about a downstairs cloakroom, the upstairs family bathroom. I think maybe I wouldn’t mind so much if it downstairs and just the toilet. Hmm
I hate strangers using my loo... AIBU?! Please tell me I’m not alone

OP posts:

Yes, perhaps they would! The bush example was perhaps at the extreme end of the spectrum, I would investigate other possibilities first.

But the gist of what I'm saying is that no, I wouldn't expect to do a dump in a house that I was visiting for 30 mins, nor would I expect someone else to either.

I think the OP has had a bad experience with the wee on the seat and floor incident and for that I agree with them. However, a standard wee is fine under any circumstances!

FuriousCheekyFucker · 29/03/2019 09:13

Yup, he keeps a 5 gallon drum in his van if he just needs a wee!

thebeesknees123 · 29/03/2019 09:14

When I was house hunting, it didn't occur to me to use the viewers' loos. I always went before I came. I didn't really see using their toilet as an option.

I didn't arrange viewings back to back either because I never knew how long each one would take and we needed time to take in what we saw and discuss it.

So I do find this thread surprising

maddiemookins16mum · 29/03/2019 09:16

I wish I’d used the toilet in house I bought. The flush was awful, if you did more than a small wee with one square of paper you’d have to go back several times, it was awful when guests stayed over.

TapasForTwo · 29/03/2019 09:18

The inability of some posters to understand that not everyone is in perfect health with automatic bottoms is astounding.

TrendyNorthLondonTeen · 29/03/2019 09:20

"I'd rather go in a bush (and pick it up with a dog poo bag obvs)"

Of course this is completely normal and entirely preferable to using the toilet like a human being.

thebeesknees123 · 29/03/2019 09:22

I agree but they can't all have health problems, surely? Could it be that maybe some hadn't planned properly and been before they went. I wouldn't want to shit in someone else's bathroom I'd never met

DuffBeer · 29/03/2019 09:25

If you live in the countryside then yes, you sometimes get caught short and poo in the outdoors. It's really no big deal if you pick it up and dispose of it!!

I wouldn't expect someone who lives in London to understand that though

TapasForTwo · 29/03/2019 09:25

Neither would I thebeesknees, but I have a friend who has had bowel surgery, and would never be able to leave the house if everyone had problems with other people using their loos for the purpose for which they were designed.

DuffBeer · 29/03/2019 09:26

and obviously if someone had a health related condition and was desperate, I would let them use the toilet for whatever means necessary!

Kazzyhoward · 29/03/2019 09:31

Luckily we have a small downstairs loo for visitors/workers. No way would anyone get to use our family upstairs bathroom. Some people are little better than animals given the state they leave the downstairs loo. I think it's common courtesy to make at least a token effort to clean up the mess you make, but no, for far too many people, they just leave it for someone else to clear up.

QuestionableMouse · 29/03/2019 09:36

@yumyumpoppycat it is bear, not bare but given the topic you really made me laugh 😂😂😂

Imo it is a loo. I can't be bothered getting all precious over it. If people need to go they need to go.

mummmy2017 · 29/03/2019 09:37

Maybe we should expect people to use the loo when they come to a house, and that way your not offended when they do.
Also as said the will be one of these people buying the house, what if you missed the sale due to saying no to loo use, as I might think that person would be difficult to buy from.

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 29/03/2019 09:40

I'd think anyone who refused anyone the use of their toilet a bit odd but I'd be suspicious that the water pressure was bad if they said no.

Then when we've been selling houses I've always let the estate agent handle them, and made myself scarce.

skye199 · 29/03/2019 09:45

??

Who cares??

You are being rude/weird..

wibbleee · 29/03/2019 09:49

if it sold my house they could use my toilet and dance naked in my lounge lol!

Ellisandra · 29/03/2019 09:54

Hadn’t planned properly? Why do people write this nonsense?!

My dad used to line us up and make us go before we left the house. Inevitably, an hour or so later someone would need to go. He would them shout and smack us for being naughty as we had been told to go.

You cannot always “plan” a movement of either type Hmm

ShowOfHands · 29/03/2019 09:54

I can't imagine ever denying another human being who needed the loo access to a room literally designed for that purpose. My dear old dad is house hunting. Not all of his disabilities are visible and if he needs to go, he must go. I could cry at the thought that there are people who might refuse him.

SEsofty · 29/03/2019 09:56

Umm checking water pressure obviously

Raspberry10 · 29/03/2019 10:06

If someone is potentially giving me 400k for my house, they can have a wee. I see it as fair. Also having viewed houses which have toilets that have never, ever been cleaned 🤮. I would want to check now!

Idontbloodybelieveit · 29/03/2019 10:15

Next time you're house hunting and are caught short during a viewing would you like your request to use the loo refused? YABU

Moneys2Tight2Mention · 29/03/2019 10:18

God, I just imagine viewing a house and asking to use the toilet and being told "no" - how bloody awkward it would then be afterwards!

I would want to get out of there pretty sharpish - I definitely wouldn't want to deal with the very stressful negotiations, solicitors, estate agents, any unforseeable issues with someone that was willing to deny me a quick visit to the loo.

How ridiculous, you're tring to sell something, not piss people off for no reason!

dreamalittlebiggerdarling · 29/03/2019 10:39

I think lots of people need to buy this:
m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKLnhuzh9uY

and calm down. I’m always astonished at how workmen ask to use the loo, they’ve clearly had experience of being turned down. We’re all human.

AnnieMay100 · 29/03/2019 10:56

I’m with you OP I hate strangers using my toilet. I’m very ocd with hygiene and it makes me shudder. This came after a builder used my toilet and left a present in there without flushing Angry it’s different if they want to test plumbing etc but I think for something as important as a house viewing I’d agree out of politeness then bleach it when they left

letsmovethefuckon · 29/03/2019 11:13

This reminds me of the time when I was v little, maybe 5, and my family were looking around a showroom house on a new build estate.

All of a sudden, I needed a poo so just went to the toilet all by myself. No one saw me go.

It was only when the toilet didn't flush, did I realise there was no actual water inside the loo and that it wasn't plumbed ready for actual toilet use.

I never told anyone.

The housing people must have been thoroughly disgusted. Blush
