"Louise's" new single.

Give me strength.

What with her and Emma bunton, neither of whom had a jot of talent to begin with...

Why can't they just enjoy their former success and graciously recognise they're not actually serious recording artists.

We do not need new releases thank you.

willow, i just meant that maybe they are taught confidence etc and this can translate as being ' up yourself' or nasty or whatever. I have no idea, but being famous very young must have a few down sides and make them change as people.

Dramatical · 26/03/2019 13:42

But I'm talking about 1999.

Not the 80's then?

Ignore my comment about TV.

juneau · 26/03/2019 13:42

All these tired old 90s acts are flogging a dead horse aren't they? I mean, the Spice Girls and Eternal - who the hell is going to rush out and buy this stuff? They were manufactured groups 25 years ago - how many of their fans are gagging for their 'new single' FFS? They must all be middle-aged mums themselves by now. I think some people never get over not being famous any more and always crave that limelight and want one more comeback, or at least another bite of the cash cow that their old careers were - the Spice Girls latest tour is just that. Wise of Victoria to give it a miss. She's the one Spice Girl who has truly moved on - the rest are still harking back to the good old days of SpiceWorld. As for Eternal - they had even less longevity and were even more of a one album wonder.

I loved Emma buttons song "What took you so long", but when I heard her and her husband on Dermot at the weekend it sounded really weird and forced.
Fortunately for me the radio in the lorry I was driving chose that moment to lose reception and his at me for 20 minutes, so I didn't hear them singing......

meladeso · 26/03/2019 13:47

Sorry @Dramatical ! Blush

I do agree juneau - just retire and enjoy your money! all the spice girls have children/ partners and other side lines ( i would imagine), just do this and have a lovely life. I know i would, but maybe they just do crave the attention, want to relive their youth again? i know a few people like this myself to be fair!

Blobby10 · 26/03/2019 13:49

There's something about Louise that I just can't warm to - she didn't appeal on Strictly even though she was a beautiful dancer. Heard her single this morning after her interview with Fearne Cotton on R2 where I thought she sounded brittle and a bit sad. didn't like the single either.
However - shes in a horrid situation like many of us, divorced in her 40s with small children which isn't easy however much money you have so I do sympathise for that.

theWarOnPeace · 26/03/2019 13:50

Dreadful. Embarrassing. No excuse unless you’re 17 and just trying to get ahead, lacking confidence and simply doing as you’re told. Even then, not really good enough. At Louise and Emma’s ages and with their experience, I wouldn’t expect such pointless drivel. No aspect of either song is artistic at all, just churned out, formulaic fluff that makes no sense. Doesn’t even sound good, if we diregard the lyrics and tune. The Emma Bunton video just added to the cringe levels, why the hell did she put her kids into the fake-laugh-arama machine?? Just awful and pointless. For the “women shouldn’t criticise women” brigade, I genuinely feel that women pulling crap like this is detrimental to us all. I don’t want to see this image of women, I really don’t. Our representation in the music world should be dynamic, talented and have something to offer - not this absolute tripe! If it was someone from Take That, or 5ive or whatever, I’d have the exact same level of criticism for them, if it’s shit, it’s shit. I don’t personally like listening to say, Adele, or Paloma Faith, but they’re absolutely not without skill and talent. I don’t think the dislike of Emma and Louise’s music is even really a matter of opinion - it sounds genuinely rubbish and has no redeeming features. As objectively as possible, it’s rubbish. Even baby shark at least has a catchy tune, ffs!

meladeso · 26/03/2019 13:51

I also know someone who shagged JR when the two were newly married. So she (Louise) has my unhesitating sympathy for finding herself with an utter scum bag.

I'm sure she's lovely.
And good on for keeping her chin up.

However.....!

Imagine daring to have an opinion on anything eh?

Don't like Emma so you are sexist and ageist.

Don't like Beyonce so you are racist.

Maybe I just don't fucking like them and that's that.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 26/03/2019 13:54

I don't mind both songs. They're not going to be memorable but they're upbeat enough to sing along to in the carBlush. The video is cringy but I wouldn't have seen it if not posted here.

I'm wondering who their target audience is though? Who would buy the music? Certainly not me or dh (40s) or our dcs (teens and 20s) and I can't see parents or in-laws (70s) rushing to buy it. Or does producing records nowadays get income from elsewhere, Spotify, YouTube etc? Or doing concerts? I'm a bit out of touch Blush

Urgh2019 · 26/03/2019 13:56

It reminds me of that series that followed the brunette from Steps trying to have a solo career. There was a publicist who kept saying ‘I don’t even know who her audience is’. I feel the same about these two.

Emma Buton is also appalling on the radio.

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 26/03/2019 13:56

However, my whole family adore Dido. She is definitely spanning the generations here.

The80sweregreat · 26/03/2019 13:57

Lousie Redknapp's ex jamie was on the ' one show' with Freddie Flintoff and they were promoting a show that aired on Sky a while back - the pair of them fannying about and playing pranks with other celebrities etc in different locations. Looked dreadful and made me pleased i dont have Sky so i could totally avoid seeing it or any trailers for it.
I dont remember any threads having a go about them,. I know they were not singing , but they are still middle aged men who should grow up a bit.
Louise probably is bitter about stuff - who wouldnt be? I agree they should give up the singing efforts, but i do have some sympathy for her and women do get a harder time of it than the men as well - but that will never change unfortunately.

IvanaPee · 26/03/2019 13:59

Wow, this thread is pretty spiteful!

I’ll never forgive Louise for what she did to lovely Jamie Wink but the ageist stuff is a bit much!

And they both look pretty fab to be fair!

IvanaPee · 26/03/2019 13:59

Why would Louise be bitter? Didn’t she dump him??

pepperpot99 · 26/03/2019 14:02

Emms Bunton is VERY mediocre and anodyne for my taste. her DP is well fit though. I certainly would Wink.

Dramatical · 26/03/2019 14:04

Why would Louise be bitter? Didn’t she dump him??

I would be bitter too if my husband was a serial cheat Hmm

I agree. I'm all for bigging up women when they do great things - sporting, music, whatever - but this kind of shite belittles us all.

Totally agree. Why the fuck do they have to try and keep up with the young ones and use shite smutty lyrics.

There are many female artists (of all ages) that I admire and respect.

LazyLizzy · 26/03/2019 14:11

It's bad enough we have Trickymix making songs about shagging.

No need for mature women with kids to start doing it.

TanselleTooTall · 26/03/2019 14:11

No, I can forsee Louise's single being blared out in H&M and New Look. It's not bad bad, and I've just listened to a snippet of Emma's track and between the two, it's Louise's that has a bit more subatance.

Emma's video is so so forced. That video idea should've been scrapped in favour of something else.

I LOVED The Spice Girls. Grin Still do!

The80sweregreat · 26/03/2019 14:12

most people just roll their eyes and move on when celebs try the come back trail - avoid the music or any interviews with them - i know i do ( if i can)
They will fade away eventually!
Or start writing books and end up upseting not so well known authors trying to make a living! ( Geri has written children's books in the past)
they try it all.
