So trustworthy and dependable. So profound, 'we've had enough of experts'. Such an obvious choice really at a time of national crisis. Words fail me.

holiday for the same reason that Labour can cut the NHS spending and Tories can cut military spending most acceptably. People are more likely to believe it was truly necessary and thus go along with it with minimal unrest.

noblegiraffe · 24/03/2019 09:36

Isn’t Jeremy Hunt now happy with No Deal?

Gove at least seems to have listened to the farmers and is against no deal.

Everyone basically laughed at him last time he stood for PM though. How far we have fallen if we are now taking him seriously.

ShitAtScarbble · 24/03/2019 09:36

JRM has said he has no interest in the role

“But if my friends ask me......”

Classic Yes Prime Minister and as true now as it was then!

Rockbird · 24/03/2019 09:42

Grayling is my MP. You can have him, just don't put him in charge of anything more important than an empty bin bag.

Yikes, I rescind everything I said

SerenDippitty · 24/03/2019 09:49

I totally agree about Jeremy Corbyn. Why wasn't he at the march yesterday?

Up north somewhere campaigning for a local election apparently.

Yeah, Jeremy Hunt thinks no deal would mean a bit of disruption but ultimately fine. Dangerous candidate.

longwayoff · 24/03/2019 09:56

Agree Labour also as hopeless although in its favour they have a few MPs who might be passable as party leader. Keir Starmer? Tom Watson? Yvette Cooper? But frankly, not much of a choice. Cherrypavlova, thought it was just me who knew James Hunt can't spell his name correctly.

I wouldn't even leave Gove in charge of a 15 year-old's birthday party, nevermind the country.

brizzlemint · 24/03/2019 10:41

The only thing I'd leave Gove in charge of would be the international free diving championships. Somebody needs to observe how deep the contestants dive.

noblegiraffe · 24/03/2019 10:43

Gove was the one who ‘leaked’ that the Queen was in favour of Brexit.

Imagine him going to her to ask to form a government.

tomhazard · 24/03/2019 10:52

The concept of him being in charge is horrific. I cannot imagine anything worse.
Out of that awful lot I think Amber Rudd might be the least worst.

beanaseireann · 24/03/2019 11:01

Please explain to me what Gove did in Education.
Nyancat what are his views on Northern Ireland and the Peace Process ?
I don't live in the UK so forgive my ignorance.

noblegiraffe · 24/03/2019 11:06

In Education Gove decided that reforming the primary curriculum, GCSEs and A-levels all at the same time and in an incredibly short timespan was a great idea.

It wasn’t. It has meant terribly rushed botched job, the fallout from which will be felt for years to come. And it has also resulted in a dreadful school experience and poor options for less academic pupils.

beanaseireann · 24/03/2019 11:12

Thank you Noblegiraffe

longwayoff · 24/03/2019 11:13

My apologies to James Hunt, deceased racing car driver par excellence. I'm sure he could spell his name more than adequately. The same cannot be said of Jeremy Hunt, erstwhile Health Secretary, who never remembers the C.

Liddington has shocking views on homosexuality, but as a remainer that has managed not to piss too many people off seems a decent short-term choice (and significantly better than a hard ).

I’d love Amber Rudd to win a leadership contest but I don’t think she’s popular with the Party members. Gove needs to stay in the environment where he’s not fucking up too badly.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/03/2019 11:30

Ah! longwayoff I didn't open this thread as I thought I might just reach through t'internet and rip your fucking head off!

And then I realised that I agree with you. Politicians are so dire that he could seem to be the least shite of shite bunch of total arseholes.

And I am an ex-teacher and I absolutely loathe him for his utter cackhandedness and sheer stupidity - I can't actually belive I posted that!!!

BlackCatSleeping · 24/03/2019 11:32

Can we go back in time and have David Milliband win the leadership, vote him in a PM and not have a referendum in the first place?

JustAnotherPoster00 · 24/03/2019 11:41

Can we go back in time and have David Milliband win the leadership

David 'Tory Lite' Milliband? I'll pass thanks

I always find it strange the overlap of people say that Corbyn is a personality cult and the bringing up of DM who hasnt been in British politics for 9 years, let him go

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/03/2019 11:45

Corbyn!!!!????

I've had to completely cut off a good friend as she is a total Corbynite. Met him, has selfie with him, posts about how wonderful he is, wsteamrollers anyone who disagrees with her, calls all the tales of his derring do 'jealous lies' and seems to simply adore the man!

And no thanks to The Millipede too! blech!

Langrish · 24/03/2019 11:48

As many political commentators - a few of them sensible! - have said on the various political programmes this morning, changing leader will make absolutely no difference whatsoever to the UK’s negotiating position, which is the only issue that matters right now. An extremely unhelpful, self-indulgent distraction that will only muddy the waters further - if that’s possible 😱

longwayoff · 24/03/2019 11:52

Ah curious, made me laugh out loud, thank you. There is no excuse for Michael Gove nor for Lady Macbeth Gove who will hopefully keep her machinations to herself this time. They have entertainment value of course but then you remember they also have power. Which is bloody scary.

I feel disenfranchised. There is no party now, that I could vote for.

Me too.
I remembered this - it cheered me up - a bit.
