So trustworthy and dependable. So profound, 'we've had enough of experts'. Such an obvious choice really at a time of national crisis. Words fail me.

I'm sure there will be a few who put themselves forward. JRM has said he has no interest in the role.

That's political speak for I want the job

RavenousBabyButterfly · 24/03/2019 07:45

Yay, then he could do for the country what he's done for education. Whoop whoop.

The options really are not looking good atm. I've never felt so much despair at the incompetence of our government. Sack the lot of them and start again from scratch.

longwayoff · 24/03/2019 07:45

I have not been clear enough. Odious toad is not a sufficient description of Slithy Gove. He is the Toad of Toads. He would be the cherry on top of the cake of the death of the Conservative party. When I say words fail me it's because to say more would have me banned. Disastrous doesn't begin to describe his handling of everything he slithered into. I know there's not much competition but surely there's someone more competent available. Isn't there?

This is what all police officers were saying about Theresa May, after years of her destroying the police force we did try to warn people she’d be a shitty PM!

archersnlemonade · 24/03/2019 07:48

Amber Rudd would be the least worst option...?

Bluntness100 · 24/03/2019 07:49

Yes, I think this would not be a good idea, people's memories are long.

Whomever is planning this in the Tory party is making a mistake.

LadyGAgain · 24/03/2019 07:49

A change in PM right now is not what is needed. No one can take the eggs out of a baked cake. This whole shit show is doomed and was from the start. It's a shame 17.4million people didn't see that. Not sure anyone else would want the poisoned chalice.

strawberrisc · 24/03/2019 07:54

Why not? He butt-fucked the education system, he may as well butt-fuck the entire country.

Bluntness100 · 24/03/2019 07:56

I strongly suspect we will have a change of prime minister though. I'd be very surprised if Teresa May does not resign after the indicative votes this week. She's been fairly clear she doesn't wish to lead the next round of this.

NigellasGuest · 24/03/2019 07:59

As bad as Gove is his awful wife.

Isn't Lidngton supposed to be a frontrunner? Don't know much about him but he is a remainer.

Rachie1973 · 24/03/2019 08:01

urgh. He’s a disaster of a man. Use Pob. No-one will be able to tell and Pob is more in touch with the people.

When the best you can say for a candidate is that at least he's not Johnson or Rees-Mogg, you really are scraping the barrel.

Hammond, maybe?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 24/03/2019 08:04

Yes, Liddington thé deputy pm is supposed to be next in line.
Let’s face it, he can’t do any worse. Next Prime Minister after Theresa May is a poisoned chalice.
My dream PM is Chuku Umunna. Smart and Independent.
We need to get beyond this Brexit shitshow and have something completely different in politics.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 24/03/2019 08:04

Gove is a snake. Slightly more snakier than others.

I do like James Cleverly but whether he has the backing is another matter. Brokenshire as well, but he had medical issues.

My betting money would be on Boris though - Im afraid we could chirp away here and announce XYZ is a jolly nice fellow, but realistically, the party will elect in a unifier and vote catcher. It's only this forum (with it vocal minority) that is anti Boris, he's liked more widely, he's popular.

I have just checked the cross-bookies odds site -

Johnson
Gove
Hunt
Raab
Javid
Rudd
Liddington - who?
Rees Mogg - not standing
Leadsom
Mordant
Tugendhat - who ?
Davies
Cox
Hammond
Patel - not in my life time

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 24/03/2019 08:08

Yes, Liddington thé deputy pm is supposed to be next in line

We don't have an office of deputy prime minister - we've only used it twice, once to keep John Prescot Quiet and again to make Nick Clegg feel important.

Liddington is the Minister for the Cabinet Office and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster. (had to google, never heard of him)

Number 2, or 2nd in command should fate befall a serving PM is the Chancellor, it always has been.

NameChanger22 · 24/03/2019 08:12

I wouldn't put anyone in the Tory party in charge of an actual country.

We either need to revoke A50 or have a second referendum. Then have a general election.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 24/03/2019 08:12

Why Gove? Chris Grayling is the obvious candidate.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 24/03/2019 08:13

We either need to revoke A50 or have a second referendum. Then have a general election.

Which will return a Tory majority simply as there is no other alternative

NameChanger22 · 24/03/2019 08:14

Rees Mogg - not standing phew. Oh wait, the others aren't any better.

NameChanger22 · 24/03/2019 08:16

*We either need to revoke A50 or have a second referendum. Then have a general election.

I see your point. The left vote is split between Labour, Lib Dems, Greens. We are fucked.

MajesticWhine · 24/03/2019 08:21

Gove, although awful, could probably steer us towards a softer Brexit so he might be worth tolerating if that's the outcome.

SubisYodrethwhenLarping · 24/03/2019 08:22

Liddington does PMQs when TM is away

He also had to fend off when TM didn't appear the other week (she was in London but didn't appear for some reason that I can't remember atm)

Walkaround · 24/03/2019 08:23

I loathe Boris Johnson. He's as divisive as Trump (and has the same hair and big mouth). He was a fucking liability as foreign secretary.

SerenDippitty · 24/03/2019 08:24

I think as Environment Secretary he has been.....ok. It pains me to say so though, wouldn’t want him as PM.

Flaverings · 24/03/2019 08:25

I'm not a Gove fan or a Tory, but I can't think of anyone better.

That is one of the most depressing statements I have read about British politics, and it's a crowded field.
