To think this absolutely is homophobic

Muslim families have successfully argued for Birmingham primary schools to stop the No Outsiders programme

"Morally we do not accept homosexuality as a valid sexual relationship to have. It's not about being homophobic... that's like saying, if you don't believe in Islam, you're Islamophobic."

AIBU to think:

  1. This absolutely is a homophobic thing to say
  2. There are plenty of places in the world where you would get stoned for stating you didn’t believe in Islam!

I agree Jazzy.

Breeze the way you deny homophobic language and bullying in primary schools is disgusting frankly.

Bollocks to your “just be kind” mantra. You’re not showing kindness just damaging homophobia. Children growing up in an environment hearing such beliefs won’t know that they are wrong ,damaging and unkind they’ll just echo them. Because they’re kids. As I said before my son and others like him have the right to not hear their sexuality derided at an early age. It damages mental health. It is a human right and a safeguarding issue both of which should be protected in law and education. Being educated heads off bullying and homophobic language I don’t want him discriminated against by other children or hearing it in the first place. We as parents and schools should not be left to pick up the pieces after the damage is done.

And re penguins being nonesensical. The scheme was deemed as entirely appropriate by Ofsted and picture books have a big role in much of early years education. School is about so much more than the basics. I certainly don’t want a narrow curriculum. And before you deride the UK education system( alongside British values and how children are raised)education here is better than it has ever been( albeit woefully underfunded).

I don’t think parents can have the moral say when it damages society as a whole which homophobia does. Pretty sure parents shouldn’t be left to teach racism or white extremism as morals to their dc either.

And re committing to allowing people with different religions to live here it’s about tolerance which goes both ways. As a nation many don’t believe enforcing women to cover their heads is ok. Other countries ban it. We tolerate it. Muslims, Jews and Christians frankly will need to tolerate the UK stance on homophobia. Many do and aren’t fighting for homophobia the way you are. I frankly wouldn’t rock up to Bruni or Saudi and expect them to take on my views re homosexuality, women’s rights and alcohol. HmmYou don’t speak for all Muslims

breeze44 · 08/04/2019 09:53

I don't know how many times I have to repeat that I am not speaking for all Muslims and that I am saying young children should not be taught about sex and relationships AT ALL until they are old enough to understand the issues fully.

If people are not going to read what I'm actually writing then there is no point in me actually taking time to post on this forum at all.

No more posts from me I have had enough.

Sheogorath · 08/04/2019 10:07

Why can't a five year old understand that some people have two mums? Especially if they have classmates who have two mums.

And do you think we should stop teaching children that racism is bad if they have parents who are racist?

whiteroseredrose · 08/04/2019 13:42

The campaign was against picture books with same sex animals. How else do you suggest children are taught at an early age that same sex relationships are normal and in our community?

I don't think you get same sex animals do you? I thought that for animals mating was purely for reproduction.

Sirzy · 08/04/2019 16:04

I don’t think you get talking animals, or animals wearing clothes, either but it works fine for books!

Book even.

@Breeze44

Do you believe that conversion therapy should be legal?

MetalMidget · 10/04/2019 13:49

I don't know how many times I have to repeat that I am not speaking for all Muslims and that I am saying young children should not be taught about sex and relationships AT ALL until they are old enough to understand the issues fully.

By that logic, we can't show young children any books with heterosexual parents in. Such as Pirate Pete's Potty, because it's got his mummy and daddy in it.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-47910695

The leaflet distributed outside Anderton Park states: "It teaches children 'it is OK to be gay... you can be gay and Muslim'."

It goes on to describe the lessons as the "promotion of homosexuality" and proclaims in bold: "We do not believe in homosexuality."

Well tough shit because it fucking exists whether you like it or not.

breeze44 · 22/04/2019 06:35

Sheogorath, I really don't want to get into a debate again, but just coming back to answer your question briefly.

I couldn't find much info about conversion therapy online, but presuming that it is a form of psychotherapy or psychological treatment, then I'm not in favour of such treatments being used, as being attracted to the same sex is not a mental illness.
