To think that Teresa May's speech this evening was an absolute fucking disgrace?

'You, the public, have had enough.
“You’re tired of the infighting, you’re tired of the political games and the arcane procedural rows, tired of MPs talking about nothing else but Brexit when you have real concerns about our children’s schools, our National Health Service, knife crime'.

“You want this stage of the Brexit process to be over and done with. I agree. I am on your side. ”

So: 'You’re tired of all the shit that my party and my government have caused eg through years of cuts to the health and police services. It's not my fault that Brexit has been so appallingly badly handled, I'm only the Prime Minister and it's everyone else's fault. So why not just let me have my way and things will all get better? I am a mindreader and presume to know what you want, even though I display zero empathy in my public utterances, and I know you all want Brexit (even though only a small proportion of the electorate actually voted for it, 3 years ago)'.

We’re finished as a country if this is the best we can do, it is just heartbreaking that our country has been brought to this. I cant believe that this woman is in a position of such power and represents our country.

I don't WANT you on my side, just get away from me.

It's outrageous that she completely ignores anyone who voted Remain as if they don't exist. All this intoning about the people have spoken. Ffs she should at least acknowledge the MILLIONS who don't want this shit-show, never wanted this shit-show and know it's going to be a fucking disaster for this country and won't address the issues that most of the people who voted for it think they will get anyway.

She and most of the other planks in Westminster show zero leadership, zero understanding of the country and give zero fucks for us.

I thought Thatcher with her 'there is no such thing as society' caused enough problems going forward but really she is just determined to ram us into a disastrous deal just to get her own way. She's all but stamping her feet. It's appalling.

Tixywixy · 21/03/2019 06:46

Yes MrPan you're right. But so many people can't see it. Meanwhile the French and Germans will carve up the City of London and carry it piece by piece across the water.

WhiteDust · 21/03/2019 06:50

We can't possibly have a second referendum. Theresa is clear that ONE vote is enough. We can't possibly have another vote on the same thing...
Oh... wait...

Unfinishedkitchen · 21/03/2019 07:04

Please sign and share the petition, it needs to be over a million by the end of the day.

Dumdedumdedum · 21/03/2019 07:11

Adding my voice to the chorus of "it's a disgrace, she's a disgrace" and also, "I blame Cameron". The original referendum shouldn't have been binary, DC shouldn't have been so complacent, but May really shouldn't have invoked Article 50 without any inkling of a plan for how to leave. The GFA alone, apart from anything else, should have made them think.
Sorry, I am absolutely furiously incoherent and unutterably depressed at the same time. AngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

InMySpareTime · 21/03/2019 07:12

Looking at the petition map, the signatures are from all over the UK now, with clusters in urban centres as expected. There are no areas without signatures (that I could see anyway) and it's up to 425000 signatures and rising.

Dumdedumdedum · 21/03/2019 07:13

Here's the link to the petition again, it's rapidly moving towards half a million signatures.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I think Teresa May is one of the few politicians that have tried their best to deliver Brexit rather than twart it at every turn. And I'm a rabid remainer. I think leaving the EU is one of the worst things we will ever do for our country.
Incidentally as well as the petition there's a people's vote March in London on Saturday if anyone feels strongly enough to go: www.peoples-vote.uk/march

Springwalk · 21/03/2019 07:15

TM gave remain mps the right to vote for no deal. She gave them a free vote on the matter. So we can hardly imagine she is doing everything for the Brexiteers.

Yes TM is absolutely trying to get her deal through, it is all she has.
It’s a terrible deal. Even as a leave voter keen to leave, I can not support the deal under any circumstances.

My guess. The deal will fail next week and we will leave without one. Why? Because the EU won’t grant an extension without the deal going through. That’s certainly there position as of this morning.

The EU would love the UK to crash out as painfully as possible, to teach all the other prisoners not to attempt an escape.
The illusion that the EU institution is beneficial and wonderful for its members has been well and truly shattered throughout these negotiations, they would/should have the self confidence to let members leave knowing that the other countries wouldn’t dream of leaving, and allow proper civilised negotiations to take place to facilitate an orderly departure. But that is very unlikely.

I would be appalled if I lived in the EU, appalled that people like Donald Tusk were representing me with his nasty insidious insults. The EU also have their audience to answer to. And the elections are in just a few months....

Hepzibar · 21/03/2019 07:20

TM is worse than Mrs Thatcher.

And I never though I would ever say that.

Fazackerley · 21/03/2019 07:22

All the stupid mps bar about 50 voted for a referendum. So they all have huge responsibility for this.

Dumdedumdedum · 21/03/2019 07:23

TM, MT - it's all in the initials, Hepzibar Grin I agree with you, by the way.

longwayoff · 21/03/2019 07:28

I'm speechless really, that was unbelievably crass. Our Prime Minister. That's the best we've got? How embarassing, EU is shuffling its eurofeet and staring at the floor in order to not laugh. Her advisers must hate her if they told her this was a good idea. Or perhaps she insisted it was 'the right thing to do'.

BertrandRussell · 21/03/2019 07:29

“We need to get on with it, and then move on as a country.“

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN???

BertrandRussell · 21/03/2019 07:30

“Her advisers must hate her if they told her this was a good idea. Or perhaps she insisted it was 'the right thing to do'.”

I reckon the reason she was so late was that they were trying to stop her.

Cocopops2010 · 21/03/2019 07:32

Agree that TM's speech was disgraceful. She's screwed it up and kowtowed to the hardliners in her party at every turn.

But...I blame Cameron. He should hang his head in shame.

Colourpencils · 21/03/2019 07:32

That petition is incredible to watch I have to say...marching on Sat too. I can't believe it's a week tomorrow 😭

BertrandRussell · 21/03/2019 07:35

I’d love to know what the Queen thinks..........

Efferlunt · 21/03/2019 07:38

How can anyone with an ounce of love for their country act support this shit show? It’s time to call it off!

Desperateforspring · 21/03/2019 07:44

I'm not sure from leaving the EU pov which Is what we are trying to do, people expect her to do .it seems too me people are angry because they don't want Brexit and they want the process to be frustrated.

What we are looking at is a parliament that is not commited to leaving the EU .

I'm glad she's called them out .

From the start we should have had cross bench collusion, to get best deal. Instead we have had remainers in parliament hoping and praying for exactly this situation.
Hoping Brexit will be cancelled or be very weak.

Remainers don't like Brexit. Fine. You want Brexit to fail. Ref was only advisory you say, not legal... the margin of leave voters wasn't significant enough, they're thick, lied too...

Fine have your opinions.

But doesn't it worry you that one day...a totally different issues may arise nothing to do with EU or Brexit and you want to have a say... but by this point... parliament doesn't represent the people at all....

What will you do or feel then?

David Starkey had interesting article about this shocking disconnect.

Desperateforspring · 21/03/2019 07:48

French and Germans carve up city and carry it away Confused

What does this mean ..to leave!!

UnspiritualHome · 21/03/2019 07:48

I could not agree more, OP. May needs to start taking responsibility for the utter mess she, Cameron and her party have made of everything, and the first step towards that end is to resign.

UnspiritualHome · 21/03/2019 07:52

One of the many problems with May as she takes some sort of perverse pride in being what Clarke called a bloody awkward woman, and thinks that being bloody awkward (aka stupid and pig-obstinate) is the way to political success. I must say, I'm incredibly glad that there is Parliamentary oversight of this shit-show; this government is so utterly incompetent that they simply could not be trusted with it.

Theworldisfullofgs · 21/03/2019 07:54

And this. Doesn't it worry you that the only voice ever represented was extreme leave? A tiny difference in the result. Its ignoring the voice of some of the people that has got us into this mess.
Instead of crowing about 'winning' and God knows what you won you should have been trying to bring people together. The state of the disgusting memes leavers shared after the referendum...
This is a failure of leadership pure and simple. AND the leadership of the leave side is the biggest problem. Have you forgotten they ran away?

Has it occurred to you there never has been a plan? Did you not know they ran competitions over the years to come up with one and could not find one that was not economically devastating. Does it not worry you that whole swaves of information was deleted after the result? Does it not worry you that the more sensible leavers have now come put and said this is stupid. People like Roland Smith and Oliver Norgrove?

youarenotkiddingme · 21/03/2019 07:54

She's a complete and utter shit show.

Last nights speech just showed she's lost control.

It was bordering on gaslighting.
