To think that Teresa May's speech this evening was an absolute fucking disgrace?

'You, the public, have had enough.
“You’re tired of the infighting, you’re tired of the political games and the arcane procedural rows, tired of MPs talking about nothing else but Brexit when you have real concerns about our children’s schools, our National Health Service, knife crime'.

“You want this stage of the Brexit process to be over and done with. I agree. I am on your side. ”

So: 'You’re tired of all the shit that my party and my government have caused eg through years of cuts to the health and police services. It's not my fault that Brexit has been so appallingly badly handled, I'm only the Prime Minister and it's everyone else's fault. So why not just let me have my way and things will all get better? I am a mindreader and presume to know what you want, even though I display zero empathy in my public utterances, and I know you all want Brexit (even though only a small proportion of the electorate actually voted for it, 3 years ago)'.

We’re finished as a country if this is the best we can do, it is just heartbreaking that our country has been brought to this. I cant believe that this woman is in a position of such power and represents our country.

I don't WANT you on my side, just get away from me.

Actually the slightly tongue in cheek remark about the coat had valid thinking behind it.

We have had to put all our faith in someone who is supposed to be better than the average man- a person who wields the power to decide on millions of lives, an entire economy and democracy.

I expect her to be better educated, more confident and essential a better person than Joan from down the road. A person who can seamlessly move between circles and has an in-depth understanding of just about every policial and social situation or at least listens to the multitude of experts on hand to guide her through the bits she isn’t au fait with. And I’m afraid that also comes down to dressing correctly for an occasion and appearing confident and in control.

And this woman doesn’t. She doesn’t listen. Is out of touch and appears utterly failing in every area.

(And apologies for the rambling and terrible construction. It’s late and I’m irate)

She is the worst Prime Minister this country has ever had.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 20/03/2019 23:37

By a long way.

TreaterAnita · 20/03/2019 23:38

Abso-fucking-lutely. Quite how she has the chutzpah to complain that MPs won’t make a choice when she won’t give them one (voting on the same deal over and over is not a choice) is beyond me. It’s her red lines and total inability to reach outside her own party (because she’s a racist and a tribalist) that has got us into this mess and there is no help in sight from the opposition.

I’m going to link to the Revoke petition again. It’s got about 275k signatures now. If you want this whole sorry mess to be over I’d urge you to sign it.

Meanwhile back in the land of the living I'm not the one who can't answer a simple question. Again I ask "Who do you think should replace TM when she throws the towel in"?

3rd time lucky....

velocitykate · 20/03/2019 23:48

I don't know what to say about the whole sorry mess and I think that both leavers and remainers are united tonight in thinking that TM is the worst PM in British history - with DC a close second - and JC is probably the worst leader of the opposition ever as well. If TM is a dictator, it's because he came up with nothing useful to counter what she was saying.

What should have happened is that cross party working should have happened at the very beginning and that article 50 probably shouldn't have been triggered until a cross party deal had been agreed.

It may be that there is no deal which could command a majority in parliament, but I'm fairly sure there's a deal that's better than TMs deal - Her deal is almost like remaining and no deal rolled into one, it's the worst of both worlds.

I'm a remainer, and no deal was the last thing I wanted, but I'm beginning to think that we should just leave with no deal, sack both TM and JC and develop cross party working to get on with doing the best for the UK

jessicawessica · 20/03/2019 23:50

A PP said something about us (the public) voting for TM to become PM. I don't think "we" did ,actually.
So you can't blame the British people for TM.

Fazackerley · 20/03/2019 23:51

Yep

CatGoals · 20/03/2019 23:55

@FriendOrFaux No, me too! I thought it was great!

Mammajay · 20/03/2019 23:57

I tried to sign the petition but no confirmation email came through. Did anyone have the same problem?b

jasjas1973 · 20/03/2019 23:58

The other 26 countries are not required to negotiate in any normal sense of the word, we had to put forward a proposal and they said yes or no with nothing offered as an alternative

May had her Red Lines, little to negotiate about, we are leaving, its up to the UK to come up with the hows and whys. btw its 27 other countries :)

As they are terrified of losing such a large net contributor they were always going to say No

Watched the news recently??? its the UK HoC's that has said NO to a WA the EU has said yes too!!!

Do you really think that 8 to 10 billion is such a huge amount to a multi trillion economy like the EU's? Its about what a major economy spends on healthcare every month...... or a few miles of HS2 or 3 F35 fighter bombers.

Its this exceptionalism that has got us into this hole in the first place & you seem to believe it as much as May does.

reenchantmentofeverydaylife · 21/03/2019 00:04

If you mean me, I said enough people voted for her in the last GE. Thanks to the wisdom of their mark-making, we're now in this infantile impasse. Mind you, I voted for Corbyn, and sadly he hasn't at all lived up to his hype. He completely over-estimated his political charisma, and many of us fell for it.

Oakenbeach · 21/03/2019 00:04

MPs have the following choices....

a) vote for the deal... which seems less likely now than ever

b) accept a ‘no deal Brexit’

c) vote down the Government in a vote of no confidence, and hope the EU will give an extension beyond 29 March, to sort out the mess

There’s now no point in parliament considering any other option at this stage. I reckon there’ll be enough Tory MPs to press the nuclear button and bring the house down in the next couple of days.

glueandstick · 21/03/2019 00:05

Anyone else finding it fascinating watching the petition count go up so quickly? It’s after midnight...

Walkingdeadfangirl · 21/03/2019 00:13

She is right though. We voted to leave, MPs voted to leave, so why do they keep stopping us from leaving.

MPs are just lying cowards.

twofingerstoEverything · 21/03/2019 00:19

so why do they keep stopping us from leaving?
Because they think it's not in the UK's best interests, presumably.

newparents101 · 21/03/2019 00:21

Wow, so many remainers who still don’t accept the referendum result and the largest democratic vote in UK history. Do remainers hate democracy that much?

How is revoking article 50 and remaining in the EU going to change anything? Do you think Brexit will be forgotten about? It’s too late now, the cat is out the bag.

We voted LEAVE and LEAVE me must!

Tolleshunt · 21/03/2019 00:22

We need (more) MPs who will stand up and be honest about it, to say 'we would like to respect the results of the referendum but in the national interest we can't proceed with Brexit any longer, here is why..."

This.

That stupid, pig-headed, reckless woman does not speak for me.

FinnegansWhiskers · 21/03/2019 00:26

twofingerstoEverything

so why do they keep stopping us from leaving?

Anytime now @two fingerstoEverything will educate us as to why it's best to remain within the EU and who she thinks should take over from TM. ... Don't hold your breath though...

Poloshot · 21/03/2019 00:27

No deal let's gets out next week

frazzledmumoftwo · 21/03/2019 00:28

(Lone voice here) but I thought her speech was good.

I think she is doing an incredibly difficult job, that no one else in Government appears capable of doing.

Everyone just wants to criticise her, but the Brexit mandate she was given was completely impossible. She is showing leadership amongst complete chaos to try to bring it to a conclusion - either agree to the only compromise deal that is possible, OR we revoke Article 50 and don't leave at all.
