To think that Teresa May's speech this evening was an absolute fucking disgrace?

'You, the public, have had enough.
“You’re tired of the infighting, you’re tired of the political games and the arcane procedural rows, tired of MPs talking about nothing else but Brexit when you have real concerns about our children’s schools, our National Health Service, knife crime'.

“You want this stage of the Brexit process to be over and done with. I agree. I am on your side. ”

So: 'You’re tired of all the shit that my party and my government have caused eg through years of cuts to the health and police services. It's not my fault that Brexit has been so appallingly badly handled, I'm only the Prime Minister and it's everyone else's fault. So why not just let me have my way and things will all get better? I am a mindreader and presume to know what you want, even though I display zero empathy in my public utterances, and I know you all want Brexit (even though only a small proportion of the electorate actually voted for it, 3 years ago)'.

We’re finished as a country if this is the best we can do, it is just heartbreaking that our country has been brought to this. I cant believe that this woman is in a position of such power and represents our country.

I don't WANT you on my side, just get away from me.

Of course she can't get leavers to support her deal, as they think it pleases the remainers too much! And the remainers think it is too much in favour of the leavers.

I don't think anyone could have got a deal to please everyone.

They have to make the best of what they've got.

PerkingFaintly · 21/03/2019 08:31

sashh, I'm with you there.

Although I'd amend your (a) to be delay triggering A50 until the groundwork had been done.

(That may be what you meant anyway.)

All a bit late now, of course.

longwayoff · 21/03/2019 08:33

Can someone please tell me what will happen with the Ireland border in either event? TM deal or no deal? I haven't heard that's been resolved.

Meretricious · 21/03/2019 08:37

poster sashh has got it spot on. She’s bulldozing a bad deal through. Whether you voted leave or remain....that wasn’t the way to handle it.

Parliament shouldn’t have triggered articles 50

jasjas1973 · 21/03/2019 08:40

They have to make the best of what they've got

When you are deciding the future of the UK for generations to come "making the best of it" is highly irresponsible.

May should be commanding the majority in our representative HoC not putting party before country and listening to the DUP, a party no one outside of NI can vote for, have links to organisations that have killed British soldiers and who are anti women's rights.

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 21/03/2019 08:47

May can fuck off.

bellinisurge · 21/03/2019 08:47

@longwayoff , with TM Withdrawal Agreement the border (or rather the absence of a physical border) is protected by a legal obligation. We can work towards finding a technological solution that keeps the GFA friendly status quo. We won't run out of time for finding that solution because we have the backstop. Hopefully we never need it.

Walkaround · 21/03/2019 08:49

I'm sick of any MPs claiming they know what "the People" want. Ffs, the referendum proved the country was divided, not united, and it would never have been called at all if Cameron had ever suspected it would result in any kind of change to the status quo. Besides which, wtf does leaving the EU even mean? Apparently completely different things to different people. Only fuckwits would claim they know what "the People" want, whether they claim "the People" want us to leave without a deal, leave with any car crash of a deal even Theresa May's, or stay in the EU.

JinglingHellsBells · 21/03/2019 09:00

. Besides which, wtf does leaving the EU even mean?

well supposedly the 52% who voted for that knew what it meant. 'The Will of the People' it was called.

Pages and pages of criticism here but not ONE person has come up with a solution that would be acceptable to a majority of MPs.

I'm not saying she is doing a good job. But I challenge anyone to have gone to Europe and come back with a deal which pleased enough MPs.

Coppersulphate · 21/03/2019 09:01

I think she is right. The MPs each have their own agenda and are trying to wreck the only deal we have.
I think she has worked very hard to implement the outcome of the referendum. She deserves our support. She certainly has mine.
There are MPs who are determined to stop Brexit despite the outcome of the referendum. They do not represent the people of this country.
TM is absolutely right.
Just because a lot of posters on MN are remainers it dies not mean that the rest of the country are.

bellabasset · 21/03/2019 09:02

I agree with those of you who say the agreement doesn't please anyone, hardly unexpected when only 37% of the electorate voted for it.. Also as Sashh says she should have looked at the situation before issuing Article 50.

Frankly they should either cancel Brexit or get a longer delay and have cross party talks to agree whether to put it to the electorate. I am heartily sick of it and think the B word should be banned.

Fatasfook · 21/03/2019 09:05

Revoke is the only answer now. To leave with or without a deal is proving to be a disaster, any sensible country in the same situation would have revoked by now. Being in the EU isn’t really that bad ffs, compared to the absolute chaos and cost of Brexit.

longwayoff · 21/03/2019 09:05

Bellini, thank you, that's a relief at least.

PerkingFaintly · 21/03/2019 09:05

well supposedly the 52% who voted for that their own personal versions knew what it they meant. 'The Wills of the People' it was called.

Fixed that for you.

Pretty fundamental to why Leavers are fighting among themselves, even in Parliament.

Bunnyfuller · 21/03/2019 09:09

I think the Revote Article 50 petition page has crashed - it was going up by 500-600 every minute when I could last get on it!

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 21/03/2019 09:10

The link to the petition isn't working. Bad gateway apparently. How apposite.

Bunnyfuller · 21/03/2019 09:14

The comment ‘just because a lot of posters on xxxxx website are Remainers doesn’t mean everyone is’ is appearing pretty much on any website where people voice opinions.

Where are all the Leavers on such forums? I know the internet is used across age, race, class, geography - so where are they? They look very minority from where I sit. I believe they only won the first time because too many people (arrogantly) assumed no one would actually vote to crash the country.

Colourpencils · 21/03/2019 09:16

IT'S BACK UP!!!

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 21/03/2019 09:18

What are the scores on the doors now?

brizzlemint · 21/03/2019 09:20

620k now.

StarlaP · 21/03/2019 09:21

YANBU. She’s a fucking disgrace.

Bunnyfuller · 21/03/2019 09:21

Keeps dropping out.

I really wanted to get a train and take my teenagers down to the march on Saturday but I’m worried there might be trouble from the militant Leavers (although could probably wrestle a couple of pensioners in hi-vis)

Coppersulphate · 21/03/2019 09:22

Leavers generally stay away from here because they are attacked and vilified every time they post. Some remain posters always respond with" you voted for it, you sort it out".
Some responses are so nasty that I have reported them and they have been removed.
It is no,good saying only 38% of the electorate voted for it. A majority of those people who voted, voted leave.
Why should we revoke article 50. However much you don't like the result, a majority voted to leave.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 21/03/2019 09:23

It was going up at about 2000 a minute just before 9am. It might well have reached the limit of traffic it can handle.

Pages and pages of criticism here but not ONE person has come up with a solution that would be acceptable to a majority of MPs.

Ism’t That the point? We don’t know because no one has asked. And that should have been asked before triggering article 50. She’s made no attempt whatsoever to reach out to remain MPs or the 48% or soft Brexiters. She drew red lines for which she doesn’t have any mandate and won’t compromise on them which leaves the WA as the only option.

All of those are things that another pm might have done differently.

GaraMedouar · 21/03/2019 09:24

I tried to do the petition but keep getting 'bad gateway'. I imagine it's because lots of people are trying to do it at the same time? I'll try later.
