To think that Teresa May's speech this evening was an absolute fucking disgrace?

'You, the public, have had enough.
“You’re tired of the infighting, you’re tired of the political games and the arcane procedural rows, tired of MPs talking about nothing else but Brexit when you have real concerns about our children’s schools, our National Health Service, knife crime'.

“You want this stage of the Brexit process to be over and done with. I agree. I am on your side. ”

So: 'You’re tired of all the shit that my party and my government have caused eg through years of cuts to the health and police services. It's not my fault that Brexit has been so appallingly badly handled, I'm only the Prime Minister and it's everyone else's fault. So why not just let me have my way and things will all get better? I am a mindreader and presume to know what you want, even though I display zero empathy in my public utterances, and I know you all want Brexit (even though only a small proportion of the electorate actually voted for it, 3 years ago)'.

We’re finished as a country if this is the best we can do, it is just heartbreaking that our country has been brought to this. I cant believe that this woman is in a position of such power and represents our country.

I don't WANT you on my side, just get away from me.

she’s a power hungry maniac.

I think that’s the only thing that needs saying about TM.
She has absolutely no idea what she’s doing and is just desperate to claw onto her power for as long as she possibly can.
One would think she might realise just how unpopular and distrusted she is but I honestly think she is too arrogant to even think she might be part of the problem.

Weirdpenguin · 21/03/2019 09:26

Hmmmm! Hope that's the reason. It was growing rapidly

AlaskaSometimes · 21/03/2019 09:26

Someone on 4chan wrote a bot that has been signing the petition about 500 times a minute. I think it’s crashing the servers.

Colourpencils · 21/03/2019 09:28

Keep trying and maybe those who've managed to sign don't keep refreshing to see total, perhaps pisters could report back as to total when they get on - posters even!

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 21/03/2019 09:29

How do you know about the bot, Alaska?

mummymeister · 21/03/2019 09:32

Almost to a man - every single MP currently sitting in parliament voted to trigger Article 50. If they had such serious misgivings about leaving it was then that they should have had the balls to stand up and vote against triggering Article 50. But they didn't - the vast majority of them anyway.

When Cameron bottled it and stood down only two people, two women said that they would carry what everyone knew would be the most poisonous of chalices. They knew that with such a slim majority in the country and an overwhelming number of MP's who didn't want to leave at all that they were on an absolute hiding to nothing. They knew that they would leave no legacy and be uniformly vilified as PM for ever. Why TM took this on, I will never know because she has bigger balls than I do.

What is fucking disgraceful is someone voting for Article 50 when they were remainers and had no intention of carrying out the will of the public vote.

what is also disgraceful is JC the great saviour apparently, walking out because he didn't want to sit with Chukka.

what is also disgraceful is the number of people who have absolutely no respect for the outcome of a vote. That's what has saddened me the most. Democracy in this country is almost dead with people saying that voters were too thick to know what they wanted and there should be intelligence tests before you can vote and that some people were too old to vote. And all of this "you voted out, its your mess you deal with it" really, as a country we need to stop and give our bloody heads a wobble.

Fazackerley · 21/03/2019 09:32

I suspected a bot. Hilarious (in a dark way)

PerkingFaintly · 21/03/2019 09:32

I'd be astonished if there weren't bot and troll activity around the current shitshow. It's exactly the sort of disruption bot-masters (eg Russia, but also others) live for.

Question is, can they actually find anything more inflammatory to do than May and frenemies are doing already?

frumpety · 21/03/2019 09:34

So Mrs May has asked for a short extension, is this to try and push her WA through Parliament ?
Have the other EU countries said no to the extension unless the WA is passed ?
Or have they not given a definite answer yet ?
Can she present her WA in Parliament a third time ?
Bercow did say there was a way in which Parliament could allow this ?
There are 8 days left to reach some sort of conclusion, will Parliament sit over the weekend or are we logistically down to 6 ?
Is the UK ready for a no deal Brexit in 8 days time ?

NCforthis2019 · 21/03/2019 09:36

So if a bot has been created to sign the petition - isn’t that a cheat?

DarlingNikita · 21/03/2019 09:39

YANBU. She's now firmly in petty dictator territory. She needs to fucking go.

TheWomanin12B · 21/03/2019 09:42

They'll just discount the bot signatures.

I suspected bot activity too when it kept going so quickly after midnight.

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 21/03/2019 09:44

I've signed.

NewYear2018 · 21/03/2019 09:45

Yes TM's speech was a disgrace. As a representative of our government she is a disgrace. So are all the self-serving, incompetent MPs who have contributed to this disaster. You have ruined our country and it will take years to come back from this.

It's our young people who will bear the brunt of this.

CoachBombay · 21/03/2019 09:47

mummymeister hear hear! Well said 👏👏👏

higgyhog · 21/03/2019 09:48

Petition signed, great thread OP, thank you.

AlaskaSometimes · 21/03/2019 09:49

How do you know about the bot, Alaska?

Because there’s a competition going amongst the idiots on 4chan about who can get the most votes on the petition for a joke. One guy was winning at 500 a minute but it kept crashing it.

PonyoPonyo · 21/03/2019 09:50

I've already signed but I like watching the numbers go up... the site has crashed for me? Anyone else?

JinglingHellsBells · 21/03/2019 09:50

Ism’t That the point? We don’t know because no one has asked.

You aren't going to be asked. That's what your MP is for- to represent you. if you want to put pressure on anyone, it's your MP.

But half of them are jostling to be PM and the other half are jostling for an election (same goals.)

There are some incredibly naive comments here.

The reason we are in this mess is that the people were asked in the first place. The decision to stay or remain is far far beyond the comprehension of most people- even the top economists can hardly agree.

The reason we have this mess is because too many people thought brexit would mean no more immigration, more money for the NHS and taking back 'control'.

They didn't understand anything about the economy.

NCforthis2019 · 21/03/2019 09:51

If the bot thing is true That would be such a shame as I genuinely thought that many people wanted it - they could possibly discredit the whole petition based on the fact it’s an untrue representation of number? Whoever created the bot is an idiot.

PonyoPonyo · 21/03/2019 09:51

Crosspost with Alaska oh ffs, I didn't know that

Illeatmyhat · 21/03/2019 09:52

Don’t ever trust online polls or petitions. They’re ridiculously easy to manipulate.

frumpety · 21/03/2019 09:54

mummy I do respect the outcome of the vote, I still don't have to agree that the outcome is the best thing for the country as a whole.
17.4 million people decided to put a cross in a box in 2016, nearly three years ago, did they all believe that leave means no deal ? were they all against the customs union and the single market ? Do they all agree that the Withdrawal agreement is the best way forward ? Do they all realise that WA or no deal , there is still going to be years of Brexit to come as the UK attempts to negotiate deals with the EU and the rest of the world ?

This isn't 8 days until the end, this is 8 days until the beginning of years and years f more time, effort and money wasted on Brexit.

mummymeister · 21/03/2019 09:57

frumpety I respect your right to disagree with me. what I cant understand is this constant questioning, which you are also doing, of how "intelligent" voters were. that is irrelevant. we are all given the vote. people with degrees and people with no qualifications - all have an equal say. don't go down the road of making people "qualify" to vote. please.

dragoning · 21/03/2019 09:57

I'm livid. How dare she tell me what I want. I don't want this. I want them to stop causing irreparable damage to the country.
