And if it is are you looking forward to 29th?

OP posts:
Alsohuman · 20/03/2019 14:15

It was the campaign. No poster has been called racist.

BorisBogtrotter · 20/03/2019 14:16

Where have I called the poster racist?

Present the evidence please? The critique was of the campaign.

happyhillock · 20/03/2019 14:17

I voted leave and would vote leave again, it's the politician's who want to remain and the EU who are angry with the leave vote causing this chaos, no matter what Theresa May puts forward it's alway's going to be voted down .

time4chocolate · 20/03/2019 14:20

Boris you are trying to paint people as racist here and you are failing miserably. Your interpretation/perception radar is all to cock I’m afraid.

themoomoo · 20/03/2019 14:21

*Then you are very naive, or ( as is most likely) pretending to be.

The Turkey joining issue was a targeted part of the campaign, it stoked fears about immigration.

Racist*

directed at me.
Don't pretend it's not ambiguous who or what you were calling racist

onalongsabbatical · 20/03/2019 14:25

I have not read any of Boris's posts as accusing anyone of racism, but of pointing out that the campaign was trying to stoke the fears of racists. Which is accurate.

onalongsabbatical · 20/03/2019 14:27

That solitary 'racist' at the end of the post looks like a comment on the preceding sentence, not a hurled insult at any poster.

themoomoo · 20/03/2019 14:28

onalong well it shows how we all have different perceptions doesn't it, and I for one am offended. very.

longwayoff · 20/03/2019 14:28

Faux naif, poor me ism, distortion and obfuscation. Usual leavers plaints. Swerve away from relevance and snivel 'not me'.

OP posts:
onalongsabbatical · 20/03/2019 14:30

Well yes it does. But as Boris has assured you of what was meant perhaps you could extend the benefit of the doubt to her and not get so unnecessarily offended. Because as an objective outsider I think you're reading it through your emotions.

themoomoo · 20/03/2019 14:32

TBH, I don't care what Boris say they meant. they have repeatedly implied racism from leave voters on many threads and I think it's about time they were called up on it or at least they should have the guts to admit they think leave voters are racist rather than hiding behind saying they think the campaign is. bollocks that's what they meant

Alsohuman · 20/03/2019 14:34

Strange everyone except you has interpreted it differently. And some leavers are racist, it would be ridiculous to deny that.

onalongsabbatical · 20/03/2019 14:34

Many leave voters are racist.
Doesn't mean that Boris was accusing YOU of racism.
Unnecessary conflation.

time4chocolate · 20/03/2019 14:35

Of course, I'd be happy with FOM for everyone

Maybe my original question was a bit ambiguous, I have made it more clearer:

Let's level the playing field and have the same rules that apply to citizens outside of the EU applied to everyone, you'd be happy with that right?

themoomoo · 20/03/2019 14:37

Doesn't mean that Boris was accusing YOU of racism
no, they were, really.

themoomoo · 20/03/2019 14:38

And some leavers are racist, it would be ridiculous to deny that
and some remainers are racist, it would be ridiculous to deny that

PBo83 · 20/03/2019 14:39

And some leavers are racist, it would be ridiculous to deny that.

Absolutely, and some remain voters will be racist too, it would be ridiculous to deny that. Doesn't mean you can blindly attribute one to the other.

As the GF that started the thread isn't this what you wanted? Of the many remainers on here there are 4 that I would say want a polictical discussion, the rest are on a wind up.

AuntieUrsula · 20/03/2019 14:45

Of course leavers didn't vote for this mess. They vote to leave the EU, which actually isn't even happening at the moment.

I'm a remainer myself, but some of the comments made to/about leavers on these threads really set my teeth on edge.

themoomoo · 20/03/2019 14:50

nah, it's all the leavers throwing around the insults remember....

PBo83 · 20/03/2019 14:52

As with most of the 'Brexit' threads on here, it isn't about political discussion (which is a shame). It's about (some) remainers massaging each other's egos and reassuring themselves of their superiority whilst luring in leave voters with the promise of political debate before beating the 'racist plebs' from the safety of their high horses using their stick of smug self-righteousness as a club.

Gronky · 20/03/2019 15:07

I voted to leave the EU, we have yet to do so. My primary motivation was distancing ourselves from the dodgy financial dealings which the Greek debt crisis highlighted but which were never acted upon. I also want to increase the diversity of immigration to the UK (which is currently impeded by immigrants from EU countries having priority when competing for what are acutely finite spaces). I do believe that the economy will suffer in the short term but I also believe that we will recover and we're avoiding a much more damaging and long lasting financial crash that's still building in Europe.

Regarding racism, I believe a minority on both sides were motivated by it. Examples for Leave have already been highlighted here but the existence of racism in the Remain camp was driven home to me when I read comments from some Remainers about how they'd rather have a 'Pole than an [n word] coming to the UK'.

Regarding No Deal, I seem to recall being warned of that being a possibility (as well as a guarantee that a true Brexit meant leaving the customs union) by a leaflet which was unwillingly paid for by myself and other taxpayers (sneakily, sent out just before the limit on spending came into force).

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 20/03/2019 15:12

I voted leave and would vote leave again, it's the politician's who want to remain and the EU who are angry with the leave vote causing this chaos, no matter what Theresa May puts forward it's alway's going to be voted down .

But what Mrs May is putting forward is leave. The EU have already agreed to it and if Parliament had voted for it then we'd be gone on the 29th job done. The politicians who didn't vote for it were a mix of politicians who want to remain and politicians who want to leave but didn't like the way we were leaving because of Irish backstop etc.

twofingerstoEverything · 20/03/2019 15:21

pb083
People who voted to leave voted for exactly that, to leave the European Union. The 'shit show' which has resulted is largely down to both ineptitude and in-fighting between politicians and political parties. This isn't to say that leaving the EU was ever going to be 'simple'. You can believe that Britain is better out of the EU whilst still being angry at the way Brexit is being handled.
This is just such an inadequate argument. "We just voted to leave the EU..." You voted for something with no plan. You voted for pie-in-the-sky. You voted for the unknown, while dismissing dissent as 'project fear'. In short, you voted for a shit show.

MissGiddyPants
May has tried to appease Leavers and Remainers and ended up pleasuring no one.
In what way has May tried to appease Remainers? She has roundly ignored them ever since the referendum.
(And I hope you mean 'pleasing', not 'pleasuring' Grin)

BorisBogtrotter · 20/03/2019 15:22

Wasn't accusing anyone of racism.

You playing the victim card is hilarious.
