Flobochin · 19/03/2019 09:54

It's not April Fools day is it?

Hello, Daily Mail!

I don't fancy him but he is certainly very charismatic and it's hard not to admire him!

nespressowoo · 19/03/2019 10:01

What is going on with MN. Someone finds Jacob Rhys Mogg attractive and now John Bercow Envy

Ohyesiam · 19/03/2019 10:02

I’ve met him, he can be charming one to one , but it’s obvious( to me) that he’s a hectoring bully.
But if your a sub, I’m sure he’d do you well.

JustHereForASec · 19/03/2019 10:02

There was a Putin fanclub at one point..maybe it only had one member, I can't recall!

Isitmybathtimeyet · 19/03/2019 10:14

Doors are locked once a division is called so that only people in the Chamber can vote.

It's not, it's the division lobbies (which someone has said upthread too). When a division is called, MPs have eight minutes to get from wherever they are to the division lobby, at which point the doors are locked. If they don't get there in time, tough.

The vote is signalled through the parliamentary estate by a ringing bell (division bell) which plays through screens in offices/cafeterias etc. Some local restaurants will play a bell too, so that MPs will go and eat lunch or dinner there while expecting a vote - it's described as being 'within the division bell area' and the staff will keep your food warm for you while you vote.

For those who want some insider info!

thegreatbeyond · 19/03/2019 10:15

There's sexy Putin calendars, allegedly! Don't know if Bercow has one, but he should.

Isitmybathtimeyet · 19/03/2019 10:17

I should add, they're not locked in. They can leave once they vote. But no new people can come in once the doors are locked. If there are rolling divisions (one after the other) MPs will go straight back into the lobby for the next vote to get and out quickly so the minute the doors are locked they shoot round. (Not if the result of the previous vote is interesting, just for the sort of routine stuff they used to be voting on.)

JustHereForASec · 19/03/2019 10:18

No, he should not..

Happynow001 · 19/03/2019 10:18

Ughhhhh!!

blackteasplease · 19/03/2019 10:21

He might be a bully but at the moment he's doing a good job of fighting the bullies in Parliament. Maybe it's a case of "set a thief to catch a thief" I don't know.

I don't know why he's getting so much stick for being short! Why is that his fault or inevitably unattractive?

chillpizza · 19/03/2019 10:27

It’s the way he says Order!

Bluntness100 · 19/03/2019 10:29

Indônt find him physically attractive, but I am really impressed with the way he handles his role, it's a hugely difficult one, and someone needs to have the balls to stand up and say stop the madness

This repeated votes on the same thing is ludicrous. But more than that, it was going to be defeated again, the dup were not behind it, so people acting like it's his fault the vote won't be passed are seriously taking the piss out the british public.

I'm really not impressed with the government at all. The brexit secretary proposed the extension then walked out and voted against it. It's a ludicrous way to behave. There is no consensus. At all in thr U.K., not even in thr cabinet, and even the brexit Secretary is saying one thing and doing another. He's now saying as much as he doesn't wish a extension, he will support it. They need to make their minds up and stick to it, not Chamge it daily.

anniehm · 19/03/2019 10:38

He's an excellent orator! Though who really did the research on 17th century laws? I love history though

Isitmybathtimeyet · 19/03/2019 10:56

It's not a law, it's a Parliamentary convention. It's set out in Erskine May, a sort of law text book which contains a huge amount of research on procedures of Parliament. The bit he used is fairly straightforward but he will have sought the advice of the clerks (the people who sit at the desk in front of him in the chamber, and who head the procedural administration of the House) on how to interpret it. Erskine May is traditionally largely written and edited by clerks so they know it very well.

Pa1oma · 19/03/2019 11:00

The Fail is literally beside itself and the Sun is livid Grin. All while accusing Bercow of being biased of course.

ShannonRockallMalin · 19/03/2019 11:06

I don’t entirely disagree with you OP Blush. I think it’s the tousled hair and authoritative voice...

Tomtontom · 19/03/2019 11:08

@anniehm It was Chris Bryant, Labour MP, who did the research and raised the issue in the House (last week). And it really was him, he is a specialist on parliamentary history.

Tomtontom · 19/03/2019 11:10

I heard someone refer to the DM as the Daily Racist this morning. Seems apt!

MissB83 · 19/03/2019 11:14

God, no. Keir Starmer is my Parliamentary crush!
