Does anybody know how tall he is? He looks like 5'4?!

SushiGo · 19/03/2019 07:43

I met him once. He is quite small, but very personable.

I am enjoying him immensely!

Skade · 19/03/2019 07:49

I find his voice strangely fascinating. I've always admired people who consider their words carefully and thoughtfully and he always strikes me as someone for whom every word has merit. But I really don't want to sleep with him!

MrPan · 19/03/2019 07:56

As a bloke, there is a juxtaposition with Esther McVey - very easy on the eye, but you simply wouldn't out of principle. Bercow, not easy on the eye, but can see why some would.

MrPan · 19/03/2019 07:57

yes I love the florid language he comes out with - and very well articulated.

BertrandRussell · 19/03/2019 07:59

He’s very interesting in terms of his political ^journey” too. It suggests he is a reflective man prepared to change and committed to issues rather than party loyalty. The old school Tory grandees thought/think of him as a bit common and were inclined to dismiss him at first, thinking he would be manipulatable.

BertrandRussell · 19/03/2019 08:02

@BertrandRussell
Oh really!? I love the little traditions like that. Is there any others the general public wouldn't know of?”
Yep- loads! I ‘ll try and remember some.
Somebody used to shout “Speaker!” and we’d press against the wall while he or she swept through with their minions scurrying behind.

Purplejay · 19/03/2019 08:04

He is charismatic so I get it OP. I think
He is great!

I am a little bit in love with Donald Tusk (after watching the Inside Europe documentary) 😳

MoonriseKingdom · 19/03/2019 08:05

He looks like a smug fraggle...

but yes well done that man! Grin
(A little bit worried that some of the Hard Brexiters seem pleased as well Confused)

Isitmybathtimeyet · 19/03/2019 08:07

I don't disagree with his actions in the Chair but I know him, he IS a bully, with a massively over-inflated sense of his own greatness, and he'll be loving all this. He's a horrible man with some good intentions around diversity (anyone else notice he randomly managed to get in a reference to having got the House of Commons nursery set up halfway through yesterday's events) that he often executes poorly and with a very big eye to his own legacy.

Didiusfalco · 19/03/2019 08:13

I’m not sure about wanting to shag him, but I’m admiring his work right now and I’m a member of the Labour Party.

Pa1oma · 19/03/2019 08:22

Thank god for this Mr Speaker. Let’s not get into the physical attributes of the man Confused, but the only voice of sense in a house of muppets.

I agree it’s a Panto. “The Ayes have it, the AYES have it...UNLOCK!!”

What is it they’re unlocking?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/03/2019 08:26

I do admire his logic and careful consideration he gives to whatever he says. He and Anna Soubry are the highlights to listen to in current Parliamentary sessions.

EssentialHummus · 19/03/2019 08:27

What is it they’re unlocking?

I've also wondered this. If nothing else Brexit is doing wonders for interest in British parliamentary process.

BertrandRussell · 19/03/2019 08:28

Doors are locked once a division is called so that only people in the Chamber can vote.

It used to be so much more pantomime in the old days!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/03/2019 08:28

It's the doors to the division lobbies.

TeaforTwoBiscuitOrThree · 19/03/2019 08:29

Aside from what he does/doesn't do, I think in terms of public speaking, he is a good example of how to address an audience (well, so she should be, being a speaker and all that), but when he speaks, you listen, regardless of the subject.

Pa1oma · 19/03/2019 08:32

Yes I agree Anna Soubry is the other voice of reason in there.

The arrogance of TM in thinking she can run the clock down by bringing the same thing back until she forced the answer she wants - all the while on her high horse about democracy. I used to feel a bit sorry for her, but now I think she’s made a mockery of Parliament with her total intransigence.

CherryPavlova · 19/03/2019 08:39

I rather think he’s being a tad devilish and and absolute tease for TM. He doesn’t do it for me but absolutely he’s pulled the house into order using his authority correctly. I’m sure he’s loving it; he’s been talking about so doing for a little while now.
My concern is that we are now more likely to crash out with no vote very shortly. Mrs May will say “ I told you so” be unseated and we’ll wnd up with Gove or Johnson in the driving seat.

Pa1oma · 19/03/2019 08:42

We have relatives coming from Spain and the US this summer and they’ve asked if it’s possible to get tickets to go and watch Mr Speaker in the HOC Grin

BertrandRussell · 19/03/2019 08:45

It’s not a job you can do without a pretty big ego- and an absolute sense of self worth. The attempted bullying behind the scenes is extraordinary (of him- can’t speak of by him) and, as I said, there were Tories who thought he was going to be a pushover because he’s “not one of us”.

toomuchtooold · 19/03/2019 08:54

@Isitmybathtimeyet that doesn't surprise me at all. I've never met him but I used to work in an arm of the civil service where there was a lot of access to seniors - there's a certain type, they all have the same sort of style, very charming if they need to be but they can turn it on and off like a tap.

nometal · 19/03/2019 08:56

"Were you drinking with hard right Tory MPs? "

"Wetherspoons?"

No to both. A free house full of Welsh farmers.

MarkleSparkle · 19/03/2019 09:07

Thanks for the pic twofingers. Hel-lo...

Amazing Pa1oma - maybe they should sell tickets in order to help pay for the HoC restoration.

Whatafustercluck · 19/03/2019 09:24

I hear you OP and have been known to Google search videos of him in action. He is very charismatic and has a nice voice. I wouldn't want to shag him but I do think he's very attractive. And I liked his response when questioned about the Bollocks to Brexit sticker in his wife's car.
