I have started watching Turn Up Charlie. I think he would be great as Bond. Bit of a departure what with the East End accent and looking (struggling to say what I mean accurately here) . A bit rough around the edges looking rather than polished if you see what I mean. And yes. He is a non minger crush of mine😀! Or a woman. Suggestions?

WeepingWillow that Pugh/Skarsgård age gap is pretty true to the book

Rumbletum2 · 18/03/2019 12:54

Omg yes yes yes to Domhnall Gleason as Dr Who!!!

Anyone but that Jodie woman.

CustardySergeant · 18/03/2019 12:56

Scotsrule I love that you called him Iris. Grin

billydilly · 18/03/2019 12:57

Martin Compston for a Bond/LoD mash-,up? Little Steve Arnott gets shit done!

DieSchottin93 · 18/03/2019 13:01

@billydilly wee Steve from AC-13 would be brilliant Grin Grin

My vote is for Henry Cavill, he certainly looks the part. I don't see why people think he's creepy because he briefly dated a 19 year old who looked more like mid-20s, the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio are in their 40s and dating models half their age and no one seems to care about that Hmm

DieSchottin93 · 18/03/2019 13:02

Oops, should say AC-12 there Blush

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 18/03/2019 13:12

oh, is it LadyPeter (may I call you Harriet? Grin)? Well, I suppose it was the 70s. I just feel like I'm seeing these huge age gaps between the men (older) and women (younger) all over the place.

I really don't think the man who plays Superman is going to be cast as Bond, really?

DGRossetti · 18/03/2019 13:22

I quite like the idea of Whoopi Goldberg

DGRossetti · 18/03/2019 13:22

(as Dr. Who, that is)

FuckertyBoo · 18/03/2019 13:24

OMG whoopi Goldberg would make a great dr who! Better than Jodie Whitaker, (sorry - I love that there is a woman Dr Who, but I don’t rate her version of it).

SoupDragon · 18/03/2019 13:42

Isn't Sam Heughan gay?

I don't think so. He has been reported as having girlfriends in the past.

steff13 · 18/03/2019 13:51

I could see Taron Egerton.

Lastdaysof2018 · 18/03/2019 13:51

My money is on Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Handsome. Bit of an edge. I imagine he would be able to master roly-poly’s with a gun.

LadyPeterWimsey · 18/03/2019 14:02

WeepingWillow very happy to be called Harriet. Tbh the title took a lot of getting used to... Grin

Agree that there are some creepy age gaps out there, and that is not a new thing (Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Entrapment, anyone?). In The Little Drummer Girl it is significant to the story.

SoupDragon it was a MNetter who claimed to have known him in his theatre days who assured me SH was gay. Not, of course, that it is any of my business, but I can imagine the Bond producers not wanting to go there given how important Bond is the world-wide market.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 18/03/2019 14:11

is the book worth reading? I have to say my knowledge of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was sorely tested but I really enjoyed it in the end.

I agree that for a mainstream mass-market franchise like Bond the studio will not cast an out gay man. Though this point has been made several times on MN (not this thread and not specific to Bond) and a few posters just won't buy it...

MrsVaughnRice · 18/03/2019 14:45

If you were going to adapt the books then a black Brit wouldn’t work for many of the set-ups and plot points and you’d be best off casting Cillian Murphy or going back in a time machine and getting the young Tim Dalton . But they’re not going to adapt the books: and they’re already playing some fairly subtle games with their approach to continuity. I think a black British bond would give the franchise a bit of a refresher. Lots of situations would be just the same, a few possibilities would be ruled out but other new ones would open up. Hence I’m voting Ricky Whittle. Handsome, can act, and can dance a mean Viennese Waltz.

HalfBloodPrincess · 18/03/2019 14:53

I think casting a black British actor just for the sake of the woke is a bit of a cop out tbh. Same with the Casting of a female as the doctor (I very much doubt she was the best auditionee- she’s dire as the doctor, and just seemed to try and emulate David Tennant)

strivingtosucceed · 18/03/2019 15:09

I'm throwing my hat into the ring with Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Finn Jones (Iron Fist), Ricky Whittle (American Gods) though he may be too beefy, Tom Ellis (Lucifer) and Joseph Morgan (The Originals).

None are too famous, and all would bring a slightly different vibe to the Bond series. They're all sub 40 too, win-win!

Not if they have only been considering white actors in the past. With
Bond. I don't think it's ever about the "best audition" anyway, they simply ask who they want to do it.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 18/03/2019 15:27

I'd love to see Graham Norton in a Bond film. Perhaps he could be an assistant to M or Q, or even a brand new character G Smile

DGRossetti · 18/03/2019 15:34

I'd love to see Graham Norton in a Bond film

Didn't he start as a stand-up ? (Or was Stewart Lee making it up Grin).

I can see him as "Q".

I've often thought that it's odd-but-not-really-? that comedians seem to make great actors. Billy Connolly for one. I also maintain that unless an actor can do comedy properly - they're not that good.

LadyPeterWimsey · 18/03/2019 16:13

WeepingWillow I absolutely love the book (almost as much as Gaudy Night Smile) and reread it frequently. If you can cope with only gradually working out what the heck is going on in true Le Carre fashion then please give it a go. I thought the TV series did do the book justice but obviously there is much more depth to the characterisation and plot in the book. It's also a very interesting reflection on identity and loyalty and he manages to create sympathy for both sides in the conflict without whitewashing them.

ForalltheSaints · 18/03/2019 16:15

Is it just time to call it a day with James Bond?

ScrambledSmegs · 18/03/2019 16:22

Ricky Whittle? From Hollyoaks?

It's been a while since I've seen him in anything, I can't remember him having much acting range beyond being really good-looking.
