AIBU to think that any coverage of her disappearance is a good thing. I watched two episodes of the Netflix programme and think that if it were to bring her back into the spotlight, then surely it’s worthwhile? I’m on my own in that opinion here in our house.

Sorry just read the Lego land was a hoax

But nothing online about blue water.
My friend isn’t a sick fear monger she’s a very normal genuine kind person and doesn’t exaggerate much so I can’t see how she would make up she was in a lock down pretty weird Hmm

And not everything makes the press I’m afraid. Have you heard about many attempted kidnappings in south east this year ? I can go through my timeline on my local mums community page and count the amount of mums that have reported their sons / daughters being followed / asked if they want lifts and so on by strange men in vans. Or I suppose these mums are all liars Hmm

MrsFassy · 17/03/2019 20:08

Them going to sleep that night is also a fabrication. What happened was they were told they had to leave their apartment, and moved into a friends apartment with the twins. A bed was set up for them and cots for the twins.

This apparently happened around 4-4:30, at 6 they woke their friends to ask them to look after the twins while they went out searching. Obviously no one knows if they slept for that 90 minutes, but I very much doubt it.

I think there is an agenda to make us feel safer than we actually are. We were the victims of a home invasion. People are naturally horrified but are totally unaware of how common it is. Maybe not everyday common but it is a thing in this country.

RunAndBeeHappy · 17/03/2019 20:09

always a man in a van....was it white?

Foxmuffin · 17/03/2019 20:10

Watching the documentary i think the Portuguese police made an utter hash of the investigation and significantly decreased any chances of it being successful. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was all with the intention of keeping it hush. I think that’s why they maybe focused on the McCanns - just to avert everyone’s attention.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 17/03/2019 20:10

Get a grip @Lizmum1. There are always posts like this on facebook. It isnt all attempted kidnapping or abduction. A lot of it is just fear fed by ridiculous myths. Because someone is walking the same way as you doesn't mean they are following you or have an intention of kidnapping you.

BejamNostalgia · 17/03/2019 20:11

There was an attempted child abduction in Bluewater in 2014 which was confirmed by police. And Bluewater is signed up to a child safety system.

Just googling it looks like people have been arrested for attempted abductions in Bradford, Reading and New Cross just over the past month.

FunkyKingston · 17/03/2019 20:11

liz

And if there was a complete lockdown and a dramatic skin of the teeth rescue from the clutches of an abductor at one of Europe's biggest shopping centre that there might have been quite a lot of coverage on the news of the event and a subsequent high profile criminal trial and yet no one else has heard a peep of either?

Lizmum1 · 17/03/2019 20:14

My dh has a white van and is no pedophile so that comments pretty childish Tbh.

Oh how ignorance is bliss. I’m sure all these normal local mums will be lying and so will the schools about suspicious men following and asking children into their cars. With police cuts and attention of the media all on Brexit how can you be so SURE that this isn’t a concern ?

It’s a concern to me that these issues have been raised plenty of times recently. Of course it’s all nonstConfused

Such denial

Decormad38 · 17/03/2019 20:15

How many parents on here sit looking at their mobile phones instead of keeping a close eye on their kids. I’ve seen it time after time. Yet I bet they are also the ones going ‘I would never do this. I would never do that!’ People are hypocritical!

sweeneytoddsrazor · 17/03/2019 20:16

Well I have heard Brexit blamed for many things but as a reason fir attemoted abduction to go unreported is a new one.

BejamNostalgia · 17/03/2019 20:16

always a man in a van....was it white?

Two men in a silver van arrested for attempted abduction in N Yorks last week, later arrested in Bradford.

It’s like that myth about the girl who was told to let herself out when she’s ready, after her one night stand goes to work. She does a poo but it won’t flush so she scoops it out with a plastic bag, writes a little note with her number for the guy and leaves it on his countertop. Walks out, closes door behind her and realizes she’s left the bag of shit beside the note Grin

The amount of people who’ve told me it was their friends friends dogs gran etc!

myrtleWilson · 17/03/2019 20:17

So in your BlueWater scenario made up story @lizmum1 did the centre announce a lockdown, go into lockdown and then announce on the tannoy that lockdown was over as the feared abducted child had been found in a different stroller and had a hair cut? No, I think not therefore your "friend" knows nothing.
John Lewis at BlueWater was locked down late last year due a woman collapsing in store - perhaps that was what your "friend" was confused with?

RedHelenB · 17/03/2019 20:18

Schools have to alert parents when these rumours come out. Doesn't mean they're true. Some may be but people get spooked, some more easily than others.

chocolatelog · 17/03/2019 20:19

@MrsFassy Kate said on an interview they went to sleep because they were exhausted.

caughtinanet · 17/03/2019 20:19

There was an attempted child abduction in Bluewater in 2014 which was confirmed by police

I've googled and I can see where the police confirmed that there was an attempted abduction, unless there was more than 1 incident in Blue Water in 2014

A Kent Police spokeswoman said: "Kent Police is investigating after receiving a report that a child’s shoulder and hair was grabbed by an unknown woman at Bluewater on Saturday, September 20.

"The incident, which is currently being treated as an assault, is reported to have occurred near the Winter Garden toilets at around 1.30pm.

"The child was not injured.

Woman grabs child's hair does not equal attempted abduction

Lizmum1 · 17/03/2019 20:20

I’m glad people find the raise in crime so comical Confused

And everything that they haven’t read in the paper doesn’t happen.

I could understand a child telling a fib but when it’s becoming a regular occurrence I dont think it’s a coincidence

sweeneytoddsrazor · 17/03/2019 20:21

@BejamNostalgia the cases you are quoting happened and were dealt with by the police. The cases Liz is talking about are all hearsay and no police involvment

Anyway this isn’t related to the original thread so let’s dra a line under it.

I feel a bit stupid if all those cases were a hoax but definitely don’t think my friends a liar maybe the rumour was spread after that lockdown happened. And the fact plenty of issues have been raised in my local community of men and police have been involved a few times too. It’s just concerning that’s all. Sorry

RedHelenB · 17/03/2019 20:25

The macanns had a lot of influential friends. They had money for top lawyers. Gordon Brown got the police chief sacked
Do you honestly think the pj would gave got away with stitching them up if they'd have stayed in Portugal?

RunAndBeeHappy · 17/03/2019 20:25

all these arrests for 'attempted abduction'

charged??

mintich · 17/03/2019 20:27

I am an area manager for a store in Bluewater and there hasn't been a lockdown over an attempted abduction that I can remember

user1457017537 · 17/03/2019 20:28

The Police have never been guilty of downgrading a crime for their crime figures have they Hmm
