AIBU to think that any coverage of her disappearance is a good thing. I watched two episodes of the Netflix programme and think that if it were to bring her back into the spotlight, then surely it’s worthwhile? I’m on my own in that opinion here in our house.

GabsAlot

I’ve seen more speculation around the McCanns on twitter than positive however many of these people are pretty young and may not have read or watched much in terms of the case so they are really shocked and suspicious. Most people highlight the neglicance which I agree that they were wrong. However I’ve seen many peoples opinions change also to say they don’t think they’re in on it just guilty of negligence. That’s always going to be said so the peoples opinion of the parents as a whole isn’t good. But I’ve known so many facts against them and watched many many things on YouTube of experts that suspect the parents but having watched this documentary I’ve been completely utterly swayed. I never knew this information about the pedophiles and how crap the police in Portugal were. Yes many things do not add up and are suspicious but the fact trafficking rings are at large and the suspiciousness of the hotel not commenting on local sexual assaults really rings alarm bells for me. All I have ever heard or read about it the questions the McCanns didn’t answer, the dogs alert, the different timeline of events, stories being changed, lack of emotion ect I’ve never read or heard much of the other side.

I do think they are pretty composed I know I’d have to be tranquillised if it were me and I couldn’t put a sentence together let alone statements. I wouldn’t stop crying and probably running frantically. I certainly couldn’t sleep which APPARENTLY they did. But then who am I to say that makes them guilty we all react differently don’t we.

RedHelenB · 17/03/2019 19:50

I'm always wary of stories like these that go round Facebook.

caughtinanet · 17/03/2019 19:51

Should I lie and say this wasn't their fault?

The poster is making the point lulu that your post is one which has literally been made thousands of not hundreds of thousands of times since 2007, it really doesn't ever need to be said again, it wasn't worth saying the first time someone said it imo and we 're well past that now

FriendOrFaux · 17/03/2019 19:52

Is it true they were playing tennis the following day?
Also that they continued to leave the twins in the kids club?

beebreath · 17/03/2019 19:52

What got me last night was when she came out of the police station after being interview for hours and being named 'arguido'. She looked clearly to me in a state of shock. ( and no wonder) .

I think the Portuguese Police interview technique leaves a lot to be desired. Especially when you are the allegations made of assault made by a mother of a missing child sometimes before MM went missing.

Same chief investigator.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 17/03/2019 19:53

The bluewater/Thorpe Park/local shopping centre is an urban myth that has been repeated thousands of times. It didn’t get reported on because it didn’t happen.

FriendOrFaux · 17/03/2019 19:54

Sorry posted too soon.
I've only watched the first 2 episodes.
There was certainly awful stuff going on in PdL.

Lizmum1 those stories have proved to be hoaxes time and time again. Always at a shopping centre, theme park etc - google them. It would absolutely be all over the media if they really happened. The truth is that child abduction (aside from by family members) is very, very rare. Hence we all remember each child.

Lizmum1 · 17/03/2019 19:55

And the supermarket thing wasn’t a hoax, the case u mentioned in blue water my friend was THERE. Sorry but you just seem un aware of these things going on. There’s so much the media won’t highlight. These things happen a lot. Children are often taken to order. I wouldn’t of believed it i was extremely naive but when a trusted friend that has no reason to make this crap up and would be sick in doing so, has witnessed it first hand. Then yes I’m going to believe it.

thewinkingprawn · 17/03/2019 19:55

Cross post with Rafals

Mrskeats · 17/03/2019 19:55

Terfs? What you on about?

caughtinanet · 17/03/2019 19:55

Lizmum1 - you know that's a total load of urban myth nonsense right?

sweeneytoddsrazor · 17/03/2019 19:58

How many abductors would stop to cut a childs hair rather than just rushing off @Lizmum1. You could grab a child and be gone within seconds hanging around for a while to cut someones hair is ridiculous.

Lizmum1 · 17/03/2019 19:58

Why was my friend in a complete lock down then ? HmmConfused

RunAndBeeHappy · 17/03/2019 19:59

theres always a friend who was 'there'

caughtinanet · 17/03/2019 20:00

More fool you then Lizmum1, it's people like you who perpetrate internet bollocks do you also have a friend who got drunk and ended up without a kidney?

FunkyKingston · 17/03/2019 20:01

Why was my friend in a complete lock down then ?

Because she or you are either wittingly or unwittingly spreading a falsehood.

Lemonsquinky · 17/03/2019 20:01

I think that because they are doctors and upper middle class, people at the time were much less aghast at them leaving their dcs alone to go out, than someone who was a lower class. I just don't think that was right.

TheFairyCaravan · 17/03/2019 20:03

Is it true they were playing tennis the following day?

No it's not.

caughtinanet · 17/03/2019 20:04

Your friend is, as my children would say, chatting shit Lizmum

user1457017537 · 17/03/2019 20:04

Miranda1511 you mention Haute de la Guerrene, the children’s home on Jersey. Some of us believe that inquiry was closed down rapidly and all evidence dismissed. I remember the detective, Lenny, and he was then discredited. Never mind it was an open secret on the island that abuse had taken place.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 17/03/2019 20:05

Yep, the rumour about a young child being snatched and their hair cut etc... was doing the rounds when my ds was a toddler. He's now 22.

Bluewater may well have been shut down. But not because of a child abduction/haircut.

BlueSkiesLies · 17/03/2019 20:06

Whilst leaving the children unattended was ill advised, the penalty for that is not to ‘deserve’ to have your child murdered which an awful lot of people seem to be implying.

People hate the MCs because they didn’t behave in the ‘corect’ way that the British public believe they should regarding grief, and they hate that they are upper middle class and used the resources they had available to them.

Also if you focus on the fact the MC left the children unattended it others them and makes it seem less likely that anything bad will happen to your family, because you’re better than them.
