Netflix Madeleine McCann

AIBU to think that any coverage of her disappearance is a good thing. I watched two episodes of the Netflix programme and think that if it were to bring her back into the spotlight, then surely it’s worthwhile? I’m on my own in that opinion here in our house.

I am not questioning anything, it is there in plain English to see, and to hear if you go on YouTube and watch the interview.

I am surprised no one is shocked by this given the level of press the so called Coloboma was given, for them to then say in 2011 that she didn't have one.

GabsAlot · 17/03/2019 17:58

i agree about the dogs cant have it both ways either they detected something or they didnt-not oh it might have been when i was working with patients

Longlostperson · 17/03/2019 17:59

That millionaire knew they were innocent within 12 seconds. Hmm

acciocat · 17/03/2019 18:06

Today 17:38 Imissgmichael

Well I’ve just had a post deleted saying I never left my kids alone at that age. I’d like an explanation but I doubt I’d get one. Obviously being a good parent on a parenting site isn’t acceptable.’

Doesn’t surprise me. The circus continues

Longlostperson · 17/03/2019 18:14

What I also find unusual.
Why eveyone has to explain how the couple, especially Kate , is in agony or in pain.
Shouldn’t the public see that in them without explanation?
I know many grieve in their own way. But never have i seen such controlled emotion from parents whose child has been taken.
But saying all this. Maybe this couple just doesn’t display emotions like most would. Doesn’t mean they’re guilty.
Just odd.

ColeHawlins · 17/03/2019 18:17

without explanation?

I never understand these comments. Kate, especially, was visibly beside herself from those early appeals onwards. But they were trying to control themselves and deliver a message.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 17/03/2019 18:34

British dogs, with a British handler, brought in at the suggestion of Mark Harrison, National Adviser in relation to Search for all Police agencies within the United Kingdom for Missing persons, Abduction and Homicide.

All of the things alerted to by the dogs were connected to the McCann family. The dogs could have been wrong. But if they were wrong, they were wrong every time, which seems extremely unlikely.

miranda1511 · 17/03/2019 18:34

I think we will eventually find out what happened or she may be found. I feel nothing but sympathy for Kate and Gerry. It must have been hellish knowing the PJ had only one theory and gave up looking for M to try to blame the parents. I'm not saying I would have left my kids alone but let's not forget several of their group were doing the same. It maybe clouded judgement.

StoneofDestiny · 17/03/2019 18:37

Emotion is very individually expressed. I've seen people cry at the drop of a hat over fictional films or minor setbacks. I've seen people explode with anger over utter trivia.
Sometimes real grief is so deep that it can't be expressed in just tears or in any public way.
I'd make no assumption based on how a persons grief looks like to others.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 17/03/2019 18:38

The dogs could have been wrong. But if they were wrong, they were wrong every time, which seems extremely unlikely.

Especially as they had apparently been correct in the last however many cases they had dealt with. (I think I read 200 but not sure)

acciocat · 17/03/2019 18:45

I doubt the truth will come out in the lifetime of many of us posting here

ghostyslovesheets · 17/03/2019 18:59

but what did the dogs identify? A dog smelling blood doesn't mean anyone died - it could mean the previous occupants 4 years previous had a nose bleed or a squirrel died behind the sofa - it's worthless as evidence as it proves nothing of worth

it was never really clear what 'cadaver' the dog would pick up - only human? Animal? Would tie in with a car running over road kill?

Also the hire car was hired weeks after she vanished - so where was her body? (according to the police gossip they had a huge chest freezer hidden somewhere !)

miranda1511 · 17/03/2019 19:06

Interestingly Mike and the Cadaver dog Eddie have been the subject of false positives in the past. See Haute de la Guerren case via Google. N.B. Neither the traces of blood or DNA found could be attributed to MM.

Lemonsquinky · 17/03/2019 19:10

I think the police decided that the parents did it because why else would they have been so slow to search and make road blocks. I remember seeing a film where the character said 'if you think the person who did it was x , you'll find the evidence to prove it '.
But I have never left my dcs when they were young like that. In fact even now when we're abroad... I think it would have been an entirely different reaction if it was an ordinary person leaving their dcs like that.

RunAndBeeHappy · 17/03/2019 19:11

those dogs are not reliable, not at all

MuchasSmoochas · 17/03/2019 19:14

I have bilateral coloboma and some people notice it immediately, and some people can’t see it depending on the light. There are different types and I think Kate meant that her daughter didn’t have the type which affects vision.

Lizmum1 · 17/03/2019 19:18

I feel really naive that I always believed the parents knew something. I think the media can be a dangerous thing with all the speculations and evidence against them that I was in aware has been unreliable.

I know the McCanns were against the documentary but I think it’s been a real eye opener and many people have changed their opinions now that things are being explained properly. I had no idea the amount of pedophiles in the algarve Shock

I think the documentary has raised awareness, covered many angles and has been in the parents favour. It’s certainly highlighted many concerning things about the Portuguese police and their inadequate protocol. 90 mins to arrive and 24 hours to act. The first 24 hours is the most crucial with missing children Sad the doc also refreshes memories and it’s worldwide on Netflix maybe it could lead to something somewhere in the world who knows. The fact MM is trending on twitter and is a hot topic on Mumsnet and other social media sites is surely good. Any publicity is better than none surely ? Hmm

Has anyone read about the attempted abduction in Cyprus after mm ?

www.google.com/amp/s/www.express.co.uk/news/uk/585558/Cyprus-hotel-abductionDad-tells-of-horror-child-snatching-attempt-at-Thomas-Cook-resort/amp

Also the fact hotel staff abroad where actually caught watching kids and reporting back to abductors/trafficking rings Shock

I had no idea about all this until recently! I watched every episode of the MM documentary and I was so spooked at the man in the woman’s house and the men in the kids beds I felt like I was being watched I checked my dcs a million times last night and all my windows and doors! Gosh I even took my German Shepard in the garden with me for a smoke Blush

Foxmuffin · 17/03/2019 19:26

@Lizmum1

That’s so scary! I believe that’s what happened to Maddie. Be so easy for anyone watching to spot the parents dining and target her :(

greeneyedlulu · 17/03/2019 19:30

Colourpencil

Should I lie and say this wasn't their fault?

GabsAlot · 17/03/2019 19:32

it might be trending on twitter (was) but most comments arent pro the mccanns from what ive seen

callmeadoctor · 17/03/2019 19:36

Did the docu show many new photographs of the children? Because they didn't seem to have taken many, considering they were on holiday (and who doesn't take hundreds of pictures of their kids on holiday) Don't forget, mobiles were everywhere then as well.

Lizmum1 · 17/03/2019 19:38

Terrifying isn’t it ! The doc helped so much with understandings of character ect there was a very normal British couple that knew the McCanns and their daughter was friends with MM in the club. Hearing his accounts helped and hearing that women had reported a strange man at her door and in her house with her dd !!!! Also there were many reports of pedophiles and sexual assaults before she went missing and after that people were aware of and the police in Portugal and hotel wonder wouldn’t comment on ! Very suspicious on their part! Maybe they were worried about their reputation being a tourist area ? Confused

My friend was in blue water Kent last summer and there was a attempted abduction! The entire place was locked down people got locked in shops. Security and police everywhere.. they very very luckily found the abductors with a five year old child that they’d placed in a stroller changed her clothes and cut her hair in that short amount of time. If it hadn’t been for my friend informing me I’d be none the wiser. This exact thing happened at a theme park last year to I think Thorpe park or Windsor Lego land not cure which it was but all this is very close to home and none of it has been in the media! This information has been shared across Facebook and word of mouth. So I like the fact that documentaries like this raise awareness and promt us to be on high alert because the government and media doesn’t seem to highlight any of this! And as parents I’m sure we can all agree that we slio from time to time when we are over tired and over worked Sad I lost sight of my dd for less than five mins in the farm last summer it was crowded and those 5 mins felt like hours I was on the verge of throwing up I was running like a maniac running up to every child in a yellow jacket and my stomach and heart dropped everytime a child in a yellow jacket wasn’t my dd. My SIL found a yellow coat on the floor and thought someone hasd taken her and removed her coat as it was bright and unique. We all thought the worse I was about to alert staff and call my dh when my friend found her 3 metres away playing happily in a tunnel on the grass area. She’d only moved from the sandpit. Nothing has ever shook me so badly

Fresta · 17/03/2019 19:46

Kate McCann looks permanently in a state of deep angst to me. I don't know how anyone can look at her and not see the pain in her, to me it shows in everything she does from the way she holds herself to the permanently tense expression which never leaves her face. There's little, if any joy in that woman's life these days.

Lemon, I'm not sure what you mean about it being a different reaction if it had happened to ordinary family. The McCanns are an ordinary family- they're not super rich, celebrities, royalty, etc. Yes, they're very 'middle class', but I consider them quite ordinary really.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 17/03/2019 19:49

The story of the attempted abduction in a shopping centre/supermarket/theme park is untrue. It is a myth that has been around for years always with the attempted abductors cutting the childs hair.

BejamNostalgia · 17/03/2019 19:49

lizmum, a lot of the stuff with lockdowns and missing child amber alerts is because of Madeleine McCann’s case and the errors with that. Apparently if they’d set up road blocks, closed the borders to Spain and notified the coastguard they think she might have been found. The publicity around the case encouraged a lot of organisations to have a more proactive approach.

I have the amber alerts, I’ve had I think one and I must have been signed up 3/4 years now.
