I am retraining as an interpreter. While working full time and with a small child. It's hard, I'd love some free time to do it. But it'll be worth it when I can leave my current job!

PurpleDaisies · 16/03/2019 10:15

In a weird coincidence, I would train as an interpreter as well!

Bayleyf · 16/03/2019 10:19

If loads of spare time, I'd become a lawyer.

If I didn't suddenly have a few years free but still wanted to do something, I'd do professional exams in an area tangential to the one I work on to broaden my skills and double my potential employers.

gettingbacktoresearch · 16/03/2019 10:55

I’d go to medical school and work my way through to be a pathologist but as I am now 46 with no spare money, I can’t justify 11+ years of training for that! Grin

Lifeisabeach09 · 16/03/2019 10:56

Yes, IT or business.

FuckertyBoo · 16/03/2019 10:59

Oh interesting to have two people say interpreter on the one thread.

I know someone who is just finishing his medical degree in his mid thirties. By the time he’s trained up though he will be closer to 40.

Art foundation course and then fine art degree. It’s my retirement plan and I reckon I will make it happen.

FuckertyBoo · 16/03/2019 11:01

Ooooooh a fine art degree! What an amazing idea.

Midwife. I’d love to be a midwife. Failed one interview for uni and gave up. So if I had the time and financial means I’d love to give it a go.

Merryoldgoat · 16/03/2019 11:02

I’d become an Interior Designer.

TinselAndKnickers · 16/03/2019 11:03

A beautician Grin I love chatting to people and making people happy so I'd love to do this and have my own business in it one day!

jiggsymalone · 16/03/2019 11:03

Outdoor instructor.
Currently trying to work through the qualifications while working but it's taking me a really long time. If I had the time and money I would do one of the trainee/apprenticeship schemes that many outdoor centres do.

FuckertyBoo · 16/03/2019 11:04

I’ve often thought that tinsel! My only worry is that I’m a bit squeamish, so cutting people’s cuticles would make me feel ill.

Costume design! I’d love to go back to Uni and do a degree in costume for theatre but don’t feel can justify the fees or loss of earnings now to do so.
I’d love to be working in the costume dept of the Royal Opera House or a theatre.

ScreamingValenta · 16/03/2019 11:10

Another vote for law. I'd have loved to do this after graduating, but I couldn't afford it.

FuckertyBoo · 16/03/2019 11:10

I love reading these. Especially the arty ones. I’d secretly love to be a theatre lovie Grin.

Uptheshard · 16/03/2019 11:11

Am interpreter! Or retrain as a hypnotherapist. Actually leaving job soon so need to choose!

JosephineHass · 16/03/2019 11:12

Interior designer...🥰

FuckertyBoo · 16/03/2019 11:12

Oh exciting uptheshard! Have you just jacked it in? What are your plans?

OP posts:
Blondie87 · 16/03/2019 11:12

Ooo good question. If I wasn't as squeamish as I am, didn't have a young family and a mortgage etc, I'd love to retrain as a psychologist or an obstetrician.

RuggyPeg · 16/03/2019 11:15

Would have loved to be a pathologist. Right now though, I'd love to be a hairdresser. No cutting though, only colour. I don't want to do the apprenticeship though either - I just want to go on courses for colourists and do fabulous transformative colours and be top of my game, commanding huge prices and just doing one or two clients a week 😃

FuckertyBoo · 16/03/2019 11:18

Haaaa yes, that’s the problem with these dreams peg. I just want the glory! None of the unpleasant work thanks Wink.

Very interesting thread

DisplayPurposesOnly · 16/03/2019 12:35

By the time he’s trained up though he will be closer to 40

And still have half his working life in front of him, so well worth it.

FuckertyBoo · 16/03/2019 12:37

Yeah, he’s thrilled. Always wanted to be a doctor and had finally done it. I’m really pleased for him.
