I'm going to sound less virtuous than other posters, but I would train in economics with a view to going into debt restructuring/finance for real estate.

My SIL does this and the negotiation/contract side of it sounds really interesting. Plus she gets to visit sites she is being asked to provide finance for as suitable security, and I would love to wander around assessing them.

Or train to be a chartered surveyor or town planner. But banking is where the money is!

I just love having something to review and research. Contract negotiation of some element would work too.

Bibijayne · 16/03/2019 18:19

Lawyer (solicitor). In a heartbeat. But I'd need to do a co version course and solicitor training. I don't have the time in my mid 30s :(

JaceLancs · 16/03/2019 18:23

Driving instructor

Slippershoes · 16/03/2019 18:26

Plasterer or countryside management (not sure that's what it's called).

EvaHarknessRose · 16/03/2019 18:49

I was looking at retraining as a genetic counsellor. You need a strong science background and science degree (or nursing or psychology) and counselling experience. Scientist Training Programme or Masters. Helping people determine if they want the tests and understand the implications and results.

FuckertyBoo · 16/03/2019 18:51

Oh wow eva, another amazing, but potentially heartbreaking job.

I’m afraid I would be in the more selfish, lovely, arty creative job (in my dreams) camp... or possibly the loads of money camp... Blush

Oil paint/acrylic artist. Interior designer. Animal conservationist for tigers and gorillas.

I trained and worked as a lawyer for 10 years. Hated it! Am amazed at the amount of people wanting to become lawyers!

Stylinit · 16/03/2019 19:43

An accountant.

Or I’d just do an MA in English Lit (my degree) and read lovely books all day long like I used to.

NeedSleepNow · 16/03/2019 19:49

I would train to be a forensic scientist or lawyer

BuggyWanker · 16/03/2019 19:49

I'd love to be a seamstress/ textile artist - I love anything to do with wool, fabric etc. Sadly with 2 small children I have neither the time nor money to take it further than an amateur hobby

iwasagirlinavillage · 16/03/2019 19:59

A nurse.

cjpark · 16/03/2019 20:28

I'd train as a riding instructor and buy some land. I'd offer livery and spend my days around horses and dogs outside. I currently work in the medical field and would love to get out for a simpler, kinder, physical life.

Olivebrach · 16/03/2019 20:32

Horticulutral therapist

Orrr something in conservation

FuckertyBoo · 16/03/2019 20:38

Love these!

Why do so many people want to be accountants I wonder? Is it just the satisfaction of working with figures and getting everything to add up? I imagine that’s quite satisfying.

Chef/veg gardener or some combination of the two. Sustainability and locally sourced food.

DilysMoon · 16/03/2019 21:26

I have no idea, I'll have the time in September when last DC goes to school but after many years as a SAHM I've no idea where to go next. Previously a lawyer and would not go back to that, reading for inspiration!

Terriblyhurt32 · 16/03/2019 21:35

Ladies I went to uni and got a great degree but ended up doing admin jobs to be honest. Now as a mother of four I have retrained as a beauty therapist. I was offered an advanced learner loan so did my level 2 general beauty therapy last year. I've just been offered a job in a salon and am also doing level 3 now so I have more opportunities. I will qualify as a full beauty therapy in 16 weeks !! It's cost me nothing and is a great career you can work from home or for someone or open up in your own. My father went back to college in his late 50's and retrained as an interpreter. He loves it and can often work from home as a telephone interpreter. There are lots of opportunities you just need to look for them.

WeShouldBeFriends · 16/03/2019 21:43

I'd study Paramedic Science. I'm in a job where I can eventually do this through work but given that I'm 35 I'd much rather apply straight to uni now. It would mean having to pay full whack for it though and give up my job so is not really feasible.

Mumsymumphy · 16/03/2019 21:45

I'd retrain to be a forensic pathologist or forensic psychologist. I also want to be a customs officer. Would also like to be an FBI agent.

I watch far too much 'Nothing To Declare', 'Criminal Minds' and crime programmes 😁

JosephineHass · 16/03/2019 21:59

Or maybe nursery teacher- iI know it must be hard but at same time the children are so pure and inspiring.

Ditto66 · 16/03/2019 22:00

My friend did an access to science course aged 55, then degree, now finishing her PhD at 60 with job offers and prospects as a research scientist. Never too late!

Alarae · 16/03/2019 22:02

I don't understand people who want to be accountants either- I had to train in the foundations of it for my work (tax advisory) but I hated every second of it. Luckily I can refer to the trained accountants if need any particular advice about accounts Grin

Then again, a lot of people are dismayed about my job in tax and think it must be boring when I find it fascinating.

Tom-ay-toe, Tom-ah-toe.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/03/2019 22:05

I'm a lawyer who's train as an accountant. I trained late as it is, and made the wrong bloody choice as to which profession to join!

For those wanting to be lawyers, look into the super exam. I've been told that it'll be more like the American Bar Exam where you can do it with any degree (i.e. no conversion course needed) and you're qualified after it. I've not looked into it as I have no need, but might be worth a go?

RJnomore1 · 16/03/2019 22:07

Law
Or civil engineering

Or psychology

Or personal training

Pearpickinpenguin · 16/03/2019 22:34

I would love to get into family law.
