Hi
DH flew to European city today with work. Not too unusual to happen but some things have got me thinking.

  1. He bought new trainers, coat and had hair cut yesterday.
  2. He text me to say not to tag him on FB as some people at work were saying this trip was a jolly. (I rarely post on FB and probably tag him about 2/3 times a year for holiday photos so this seemed really odd request).
  3. I missed a call from him so rang back from my mobile. His number is saved without the international dialling numbers in my phone and it rang as normal..ie not the abroad ring tone I was expecting. Does this mean that he isn't on mainland Europe?
I said I woukd call back. Is there a way of doing this that means I could establish where he is? Hope that makes sense. TIA

Is it just me who thinks its weird that someone would jet off on a business trip or otherwise and not tell them the flight details and hotel or even the country they are staying in?? That to me is dodgy ! I wouldnt ring his work,,that would send the wrong signal and flag that you are checking up. Maybe he reads MN?

GreenTulips · 14/03/2019 18:22

My DH is away next week
I don’t have flight details or hotel details for that matter

He FaceTime and sends pics and buys kids souvenirs etc

Atalune · 14/03/2019 18:24

Dh is away all the time and I don’t specifcally ask for any of his travel details. But I don’t have any suspicions so Am not worried. He face times from his hotel rooms and complains about the crappy beds and missing us.

Aquamarine1029 · 14/03/2019 18:26

I find it shocking that anyone would neglect to tell their spouse/partner where they are traveling to, flight information, and the hotel they're staying in. That's simply unacceptable and a massive red flag.

callmeadoctor · 14/03/2019 18:26

Do those that don't know names of hotels, worry in case of emergency they may need to contact urgently? (I know they may have a mobile, but no signal/charge etc? The same with flight details for news of delays etc?

FudgeBrownie2019 · 14/03/2019 18:27

DH goes away often with work and rarely leaves behind details of where he's going/staying. It's all on our shared calendar, though, so if I ever bothered to look at the calendar on our phones/macs it would all be there. More in case of emergencies than for stalker reasons.

The dial tone is just odd, though, and I'd hazard that you've got a weird feeling in your stomach and I'd also hazard that those weird feelings when you've been married a while don't just come from nowhere. So I'd also be looking a little more closely at this than some people have suggested.

happierever · 14/03/2019 18:27

I ring British mobile numbers that are in Europe frequently. The ring tone is always different

macblank · 14/03/2019 18:27

When calling/texting a UK mobile phone abroad, it is EXACTLY the same as calling/texting it in UK.

You don't get a different ringing sound, it's a simple mobile to mobile call/text. As far as your phone is concerned the phone is in the UK. If you check your bills for other times he was away, you'll see it's the same regardless of where the mobile is.

The same is true.in reverse. If he calls/texts you while abroad, because it is a UK phone, your mobile won't notice a difference.

Even a UK to UK mobile text from a new number shows the +44 at the beginning of the number, so if you saved the number in that format the phone doesn't see a change!

So to suspect something because it seems to be the same... That's because it is the same regardless.

If you'd called/texted a foreign mobile phone (one that didn't originate in the UK) then you'd notice a difference.

choli · 14/03/2019 18:28

balcony. I travel on business my husband knows what city, but has never asked for flight numbers or hotel details. He just calls my mobile phone if he wants to talk to me.

WhoEatsPopTarts · 14/03/2019 18:29

My dh travels abroad frequently and I often have no idea where he’s staying or exactly which flight he on, he’s just flaky. We often Skype and he show me his room or the view, why don you do that OP?

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 14/03/2019 18:31

Can't you ask him to WhatsApp you some pics of the hotel or something? My dh always sends me tons of pics of random things whenever he's away with work - I always get jealous of the nice bars and hotel rooms!

HaventGotAllDay · 14/03/2019 18:33

Do you even know the country he's supposed to be in?

The phone thing is a red herring as is the haircut but yes, for some reason he doesn't want it appearing on FB that you and he aren't physically together in the same place. Because somebody has been told that you are.

CoperCabana · 14/03/2019 18:35

My DH goes away fairly regularly and I don’t think I have ever had flight or hotel details. I am surprised others have this kind of detail in the age of mobile phones and the internet. I would know which country (if I was listening properly!)

happierever · 14/03/2019 18:36

Macblanc that's totally incorrect you get an international ring tone if you are ringing a British mobile that's abroad. I ring my colleagues on British mobiles when they are travelling and always get a different ring tone

mangolover · 14/03/2019 18:37

So strange. Do you have shared iCloud?

Hubblebubbletripletrouble · 14/03/2019 18:38

If you do genuinely have reasons to have suspicious then I would ring work to ask for hotel name. Make an excuse

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/03/2019 18:39

I barely know what country DH is in let alone flight times and hotel names. That’s not me being blasé, it’s just that he’s away a lot.

LaBelleSauvage · 14/03/2019 18:41

Sorry OP but if his phone isn't doing the european dial tone I really doubt he is abroad.

Agree- call his work and ask for the hotel name

wowfudge · 14/03/2019 18:42

Aquamarine DP is away 3-4 days per week. Sometimes he flies, sometimes he takes trains or hires a car. I don't need all the details and, in an emergency, I could contact his assistant or one of his team members. We keep in contact whilst he's away, I don't need to know all the details. I have enough to be getting on with myself without worrying about his travel details.

Babynut1 · 14/03/2019 18:43

Hmm when I call people overseas on a uk mobile the dialtone is different.

caughtinanet · 14/03/2019 18:44

My xp used to work abroad a lot and I never knew flight or hotel details, ime that's totally normal nowadays when you get hold of people via mobile or Skype, ime those who regularly work away don't log all their travel details with their partner. That alone isn't a red flag for me.

It's the facebook tagging that would raise suspicions, I'd think of an innocent reason to ring his work and find out where they think he is

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 14/03/2019 18:46

Our DD and my DBro often travel in Europe. If I call their mobiles I just call using the name in my address as usual and get the international ring tone. We often catch school parents out because we call their mobile to see why child isn't in school and get the international ring tone.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 14/03/2019 18:46

I ring British mobile numbers that are in Europe frequently. The ring tone is always different

It really isn't.

When calling/texting a UK mobile phone abroad, it is EXACTLY the same as calling/texting it in UK

This.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 14/03/2019 18:47

Oh well quite a few people saying it is. Ok maybe it depends on the network.

TSSDNCOP · 14/03/2019 18:47

If DH travels I have a vague idea of his whereabouts but never the hotel details/flights etc.

He does like to send pictures of fabulous rooftop infinity pools or bars when he’s hanging after work or on a weekend day.

He does get his hair cut and take casual clothes (plus swimmers - see above.

His phone just rings when I press his name on my saved list.
