Urgent advice re phones abroad needed. Suspicions re DH

Hi
DH flew to European city today with work. Not too unusual to happen but some things have got me thinking.

  1. He bought new trainers, coat and had hair cut yesterday.
  2. He text me to say not to tag him on FB as some people at work were saying this trip was a jolly. (I rarely post on FB and probably tag him about 2/3 times a year for holiday photos so this seemed really odd request).
  3. I missed a call from him so rang back from my mobile. His number is saved without the international dialling numbers in my phone and it rang as normal..ie not the abroad ring tone I was expecting. Does this mean that he isn't on mainland Europe?

I said I woukd call back. Is there a way of doing this that means I could establish where he is?
Hope that makes sense.
TIA

Don’t understand why the fb would be an issue.

Not seeing an issue with hair cut it trainers

I thought the ring tone would have been different if he was abroad, but that’s knowledge from a few months ago

Tbh I would expect to know what hotel he is staying at as a matter of curtesy, and in an emergency if he can't be contacted on his mobile.

There is no such thing as an international ring tone.

Although there is a European standard that we totally ignore.

when is he coming back? I'd be suspicious if he was away over the week-end

Did he take the new trainers away with him? If so, that's really suspicious too. why would he need trainers away on a business trip.

you ring from your UK number another UK number. you dont need the international dial code as you are making a domestic call. so normal that it rings.

However, it would ring European style if he is in Europe. If his phone is off, you should get that automated 'the number you have rang is not available' in the language of the country he is.... hth

His colleagues thinks he’s going on a fun trip? What? Surely if it’s work related they wouldn’t be saying that?

I don’t understand point 2 really, so I’d be tagging him and ‘forgetting’ he said not to, saying you’ll miss him whilst he’s on his work trip.
If he is up to something I’m sure he’ll end up red faced when his colleagues are wondering what ‘work trip’ he’s on.

Has he given you any reason to mistrust him?

There is no such thing as an international ring tone.

it rings different in Europe. You can verify we'll hear if you ring Europe or the UK. I thought that is pretty well known Confused

I rang a British phone number in Europe only yesterday and the dial tone was different

I would speak to him and say BTW I didn't ask where you were staying, I'd then call the hotel and say you're a colleague / PA and wanted to check he'd arrived OK. Also, have you checked if his passport has gone?

I'm assuming you don't have the Find Friends thing enabled on your phones?

If your relationship is otherwise fine and he hasn’t given you reasons (other than these) to be suspicious then I think you’re overthinking it.
Those things wouldn’t bother me.

Ring his work and ask for the name of hotel he’s staying in

You could go sign up for a free account on bitly.com

Find a picture you want to share with your husband make it into a shortened url with custom link so it doesn't look dodgy. Send him the link, once he clicks on it the stats for the link will update and you'll see which country he's in.

Right, just rang without international code from landline. It connected and there was no international ringtone.

Do you have his flight and hotel details? We always make sure to share travel details with each other as a matter of course - in case of delays / mishaps / emergancies etc.

There is no one answer for mobile phones in Europe regarding ringing tone or caller id. My DP travels a lot in Europe and the rest of the world. It is not even consistent within one European country as it can depend which network his phone has piggybacked on to.
My DP also regularly gets a hair cut when he is away as there is usually a hair dressers in the hotel and it is easy.

I'm not sure about the ring tone, but I sure as hell would be looking for a way to validate via work colleagues, low-key. This is the red flag really - what difference does it make if you tag him if they know he's on the trip anyway? That bit does NOT make sense at all - he is so worried that they would get slightly annoyed to see you commenting on a work trip they know is happening, just because they think it's basically a jolly? Err no.

The only logical explanation for that is that they think he's somewhere else and you saying 'Hope you're loving the Italy conference!' or similar will drop him in it. And that means, he is not on a work trip.

The fact that he's thought to say this when you hardly ever post is even more Hmm

So I would be getting to the very bottom of that. How you do it - I wouldn't necessarily do the fb post as none of them may see it OR if they do you may not get a comment.

What I MIGHT do is invent a slight emergency and try and directly contact a work friend to get the hotel number 'as his mobile just doesn't seem to be working - you know Jim is in Italy at this conference, wonder if you know what hotel he is at?' kind of thing.

Why would he say about tagging you - what would you tag him in while he’s away?

He's back tomorrow night. He did take the trainers but its a workshop thing and he told me it was casual.

I ring my parents (UK) mobile phone numbers when they're holidaying in the US with no problem. I just press their name in my phone and it goes through as normal. You're vastly overthinking this.

3 is definitely wrong. UK phones in Europe always ring with European tone Sad

U.K. mobiles sound like U.K. my dh would cut his hair possibly, he goes monthly anyway, perhaps he needed more trainers and a new coat. My dh often buys new stuff ahead of a business trip as it focuses his mind on things he needed anyway.
