To ask for an ambulance?

I don't know what to do really.
Had a bit of leg pain and tingling the last day or so and wasn't concerned at all but I rang 111, because I had a pulmonary embolism a year ago I thought I should be cautious in case it was another blood clot.
111 people got a doctor from the local hospital to ring me back, she said she isn't concerned from what I've said but wants me to come to a&e straight away for bloods and scan.
I honestly feel fine and a little bit embarrassed, what if it's just a sore muscle or something.
But when I got off the phone I then realised I now have £3 in my bank account and about 80p cash, so can't get an Uber or a bus at this time. I'm a student so all my friends and family are in a different city. Should I ring 111 back and ask if they have a way to transport me? I feel well but if a doctor has told me to go to a&e then it's made me worried.

@Kindofnewtothis I won't be rethinking about ttc. This time next year I will be in a completely different position than I am in now. I have a graduate job lined up, and my partner will have completed his qualifications and will be a fully qualified electrician, also has a job lined up for the near future. Thanks for your concern though

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Best rebuttal I have ever seen on Mumsnet! Well said OP!!!!!

Best of luck for your future and ignore the shrews on here! You sound like you have your head well & truly screwed on. Hope all goes well with your legThanksGin

BingLiveisRubbish · 14/03/2019 02:50

@justforthis6473 Did you not see OP's earlier response to the same kind of judgmental shit as you have just spouted?!

Some of the replies on this post are appalling. And the amount of people who post without reading the thread is massively annoying. After stating back in the first couple of pages she wasn’t going to request an ambulance there are still 87 ‘an ambulance is not a taxi’ posts. Her parents aren’t contactable. Lots of people’s parents aren’t. Nor do lots of people have anyone to ask to borrow money from. The sheer cluelessness is just depressing.
And the questions about the OP begging and/or her life choices are just staggeringly rude and awful.
I’m the first to say ambulances are for emergencies but a suspect PE IS an emergency. It could literally kill her ffs.
This place at times is a fucking disgrace.

Anywalls
I really am not going to discuss this you any more.
I really don’t think replying to your aggressive posts was going ‘off topic’
You really are a very unhappy person aren’t you?
Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you but I’m going to bed now.
You have really excelled tonight.
Well done!
(Ever heard that before?)
You have called a total stranger so many names for, presumably, having different views to yours, and you finished by calling me a cunt.
Your parents must be so very proud

Luckingfovely · 14/03/2019 03:35

God, this thread is possibly the worst ever on Mumsnet. People really are fucking horrible.

OP I hope you're doing okay. I'd run from this thread and never come back if I were you.

Lovingbenidorm · 14/03/2019 03:41

I agree this is horrible.
I used to enjoy having a chat and joining in with opinions and discussions.

Lovingbenidorm · 14/03/2019 03:42

I’m done here

SD1978 · 14/03/2019 04:17

Family or friends can pay for an Uber, regardless of the city they are in. I would be exploring that option before an ambulance.

notsodimwit · 14/03/2019 04:19

OpFlowers hope you are ok xx what a worrying time for you Sad

notsodimwit · 14/03/2019 04:21

Shame on all the awful posters who kick someone when they are down Angry

EmmaGrundyForPM · 14/03/2019 04:44

OP I hope you are getting sorted out now and that all is well

I have a son at uni and wouldn't mind at all being woken up in the middle of the night if he has an emergency. I put my phone on silent at 10pm BUT have customised the setting so that key numbers can get through at any time, eg my kids, my mum etc. You could ask.your parents to do that.

Going forward, obviously money is tight for you but try to put £10 somewhere as your 'emergency taxi' money and only use it for that.

kaytee87 · 14/03/2019 06:30

@UnspiritualHome I broke it on the Friday night and went to hospital on the Sunday morning hth. I didn't post all the details here as it was a quick anecdote to show how little ambulances there are.

kaytee87 · 14/03/2019 06:42

How few *

Natsku · 14/03/2019 06:46

Hope OP is ok now.
When I was a student I had to go to A&E in the middle of the night and NHS direct (as it was then) told me that if I couldn't get transport then I should call an ambulance and it wasn't any life threatening emergency. (I didn't call one, I managed to get a friend to come with me and split the cost of the taxi as I didn't have enough)

AgentJohnson · 14/03/2019 06:48

Don’t your parents have friends or relatives that live nearby? Don’t you have a credit card? Can’t you go into overdraft?

An ambulance isn’t a taxi service and how would you get home again if you weren’t admitted?

kaytee87 · 14/03/2019 06:50

@AgentJohnson it's moved on a bit in almost 300 posts

PandaSky · 14/03/2019 07:29

and can't you RTFT??

ClosdesMouches · 14/03/2019 07:36

"Nasty bastards on here shouldn't be allowed post."

The irony!

LakieLady · 14/03/2019 07:53

Will deffo have some sort of emergency stash in the future, I have a few times but ended up spending it

After an experience similar to yours, OP (but in pre-internet days, and when there fewer cashless ways of paying), I stashed 3 fivers in various places around the house, only for use in dire emergencies.

A few years ago, when they changed the £5 note, I swapped them for £10 notes. They're still there: I got out a reference book to look something up the other day and one fell out!

Even DP doesn't know where they are.

BetsyBigNose · 14/03/2019 08:23

How are you this morning OP? What was the outcome at the hospital? Thinking of you. Flowers

PengAly · 14/03/2019 08:28

Mumsnet can be a horrible place sometimes. One of these days a thread like this is going to end really badly and if so MNHQ will get the public blame. People need to understand that although this is the internet there are still real people on the other side
