To ask for an ambulance?

Kindofnewtothis · 13/03/2019 20:46

I don't know what to do really.
Had a bit of leg pain and tingling the last day or so and wasn't concerned at all but I rang 111, because I had a pulmonary embolism a year ago I thought I should be cautious in case it was another blood clot.
111 people got a doctor from the local hospital to ring me back, she said she isn't concerned from what I've said but wants me to come to a&e straight away for bloods and scan.
I honestly feel fine and a little bit embarrassed, what if it's just a sore muscle or something.
But when I got off the phone I then realised I now have £3 in my bank account and about 80p cash, so can't get an Uber or a bus at this time. I'm a student so all my friends and family are in a different city. Should I ring 111 back and ask if they have a way to transport me? I feel well but if a doctor has told me to go to a&e then it's made me worried.

Glad your friend's sorted you out an Uber. I was going to suggest booking yourself one as I don't think they take payment until after the journey, then you just get a message in the app that payment failed, and you just settle up later.

Yeah, fuck the driver who's doing it trying to scrape a living. Hmm

Cheeeeislifenow · 13/03/2019 22:32

@auch the insinuation that op spent all her money on weed and why would she be TTC, is what I am referring to, none of that is anyone's business at all and not relevant.
Some people like to pick holes in people's story trying to catch them out, it's a bit sad.

Youcangoyourownwoo · 13/03/2019 22:34

One other thing, it might be worth speaking to your GP soon about keeping a supply of Clexane injections in the fridge at home. That way, if you every suspect another clot you can start treating it exactly as they will in hospital, without all the panic of trying to get there.

Hahahahaha. No chance. I had 2 PEs and advanced cancer and I got a prescription for 5 injections every 5 days because they wouldn't give me more than that at a time due to expense. No chance they'd give you it just in case - can you imagine the risk of people taking them when they dont need them while already on blood thinners?

Youcangoyourownwoo · 13/03/2019 22:35

*the 5 injections every 5 days lasted for 6 months. I was never out of the chemist.

Kindofnewtothis · 13/03/2019 22:36

Ahhh those bloody injections, do not miss them a bit! My gp told me that when I ttc I'll have to have them instead of my apixaban, a whole 9 months of that stingy feeling Blush

OP posts:
CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 13/03/2019 22:38

I only had to inject myself for 2 days when they took my off Rivaroxaban prior to them removing the IVC filter they put in when I had the PE (eugh, that wasn't fun) - and that was bad enough!

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/03/2019 22:39

I get two months of clexane at a time, never had any problems.

UrsulaPandress · 13/03/2019 22:43

I remember Kaytees broken ankle thread as I posted on it. She had a young son.

RLOU30 · 13/03/2019 22:44

I’m Shock at the posters accusing OP of begging. I would be fucking gutted if I received half the messages OP has on here. Since when was this okay.

NiceNewShiny · 13/03/2019 22:46

OP
I don't really understand why people think I'd make all of this up for money

It’s because this is the type and style of thread that scammers use. Surely you can understand that. I think it would help if people want to post for advice and genuinely don’t want money they should turn off their ability to receive private messages. You shouldn’t have to do it but it would help show that you weren’t on the scrounge. Also it would have the added benefit that you wouldn’t be able to receive unpleasant messages from posters who think you are scamming.

Anyway. Hope you get everything sorted.

NiceNewShiny · 13/03/2019 22:47

Ugh, sorry for typos and poor English

Youcangoyourownwoo · 13/03/2019 22:48

IVC filters are little umbrellas of doom.

It was dalteparin I was prescribed and they were very very reticent to give me any more than necessary.

The point still stands - giving a patient a blood thinner "just in case" when theyre already on another thinner is a recipe for a haemorrhage. Especially when you see how many posters are saying how traumatised they felt after having a clot.

Mummymummums · 13/03/2019 22:48

Hope it all goes well OP. You asked a question because you were unsure, you're quite young, and you immediately accepted and took on board the answers. I think people have been harsh.

BlackPrism · 13/03/2019 22:56

Not sure why everyone was screaming not to get an ambulance?
OP was advised to go to A&E and has a past history of thrombosis - if she genuinely couldn't get to A&E any other way I'd rather she had got an ambulance than possibly died tbh...

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 13/03/2019 22:57

I agree BlackPrism

UnspiritualHome · 13/03/2019 22:57

I had to stay at home for another full day and night until someone could bring me a wheelchair to get into hospital

Except according to the thread posted at the time you phoned for an ambulance at midnight and were on your way to hospital the next morning.

KingMash · 13/03/2019 22:58

Me too. My DD is also the same age as the op, and I would also be horrified if she was treated this way after asking for advice while in a totally understandable state of panic.

Hope you're OK op Flowers

MrMeSeeks · 13/03/2019 23:02

Except according to the thread posted at the time you phoned for an ambulance at midnight and were on your way to hospital the next morning.

The op broke the ankle the day previously was taken to a@e a day later.
She didn't go by ambulance

Schuyler · 13/03/2019 23:04

@UnspiritualHome Kaytee is a long standing poster. She also said on her thread that she had fallen the night before she posted. She didn’t call 999, she phoned 111.

aimees75 · 13/03/2019 23:08

I don't know why everyone is being so obnoxious to the OP. She's 21 and is asking for advice. Yes it's wrong to get an ambulance but just be polite about it.

UnspiritualHome · 13/03/2019 23:08

Yes, Shuyler, but on this thread she said she wasn't sent an ambulance and had to stay at home another full day and night.

BlackPrism · 13/03/2019 23:09

Although I do think 21yo with £3 you should rethink a baby tbh

Kindofnewtothis · 13/03/2019 23:18

I won't be rethinking about ttc. This time next year I will be in a completely different position than I am in now. I have a graduate job lined up, and my partner will have completed his qualifications and will be a fully qualified electrician, also has a job lined up for the near future. Thanks for your concern though

OP posts:
Dotty1970 · 13/03/2019 23:19

maccaroni

😯 That's horrendous then! Sorry 😳

Schuyler · 13/03/2019 23:20

@UnspiritualHome why are you trying to pick this apart and make out like a long standing poster - who has only ever posted very normal hints - out to be something who exaggerates? @kaytee87 posted on her thread that broke her ankle on a Friday evening/night and posted in pain on a Saturday night and was in hospital on a Sunday morning. There’s nothing she’s said or done that’s inaccurate.
