To ask for an ambulance?

I don't know what to do really.
Had a bit of leg pain and tingling the last day or so and wasn't concerned at all but I rang 111, because I had a pulmonary embolism a year ago I thought I should be cautious in case it was another blood clot.
111 people got a doctor from the local hospital to ring me back, she said she isn't concerned from what I've said but wants me to come to a&e straight away for bloods and scan.
I honestly feel fine and a little bit embarrassed, what if it's just a sore muscle or something.
But when I got off the phone I then realised I now have £3 in my bank account and about 80p cash, so can't get an Uber or a bus at this time. I'm a student so all my friends and family are in a different city. Should I ring 111 back and ask if they have a way to transport me? I feel well but if a doctor has told me to go to a&e then it's made me worried.

Wake your parents up. They are parents, being woken up at anti-social times is part of the job description.

MakeLemonade · 13/03/2019 21:14

Phone their landline and mobiles? Sure it would wake most people and they wouldn’t want you stuck at home and worried/potentially unwell I’m sure.

Princessmushroom · 13/03/2019 21:14

Wow don’t phones exist?

kaytee87 · 13/03/2019 21:14

I don't understand how I am expected to wake parents up when they're in a different city? I don't have anyone round here that could help, maybe I could ring 111 back and ask if it could wait until tomorrow?

You can phone them? How do you actually know they're both sleeping?

JustBeenNosey · 13/03/2019 21:14

I can't believe you were even considering using an ambulance as a taxi service..

And we wonder why the NHS is on its arse 🤨🤔🤔

Kindofnewtothis · 13/03/2019 21:15

Both their phones were ringing out when I've tried them, I know they put them on silent for bed so there's no one around that's an option.

How do you know your parents are asleep? Confused Have you tried phoning them.

cocomelon23 · 13/03/2019 21:16

It's 9pm. Why are your parents asleep so early?

killpop · 13/03/2019 21:16

What about your DP?

kaytee87 · 13/03/2019 21:16

So phone your sister again and explain to her you've been told to go to A&E straight away, ask her to send you money (your parents could even square her up tomorrow if it's an issue?)
Always keep some emergency money in the future.

WorraLiberty · 13/03/2019 21:17

He's told you he isn't concerned from what you've said.

So either find someone who can send you some money tonight, or you'll have to wait until morning.

As a PP said, even if they could find an ambulance for you tonight, how would you get home?

LilyMumsnet · 13/03/2019 21:18

Hi all,

We've had a number of reports from people concerned about this thread so, as we usually do in these circs, we're putting our heads round the door with some important reminders.

Right now we can't see any evidence to indicate that the OP isn't above board – if we did, we'd remove the thread straight away. But the truth is that, sadly, we at MNHQ can't know with 100% certainty that any poster is genuine, no matter who they are or how long they have been here. As frustrating as it is, we're not able to vouch for anyone here.

So we always ask everyone to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are – and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong.

Sorry to hijack your thread briefly there, OP – we really hope you get it all sorted soon.

Kindofnewtothis · 13/03/2019 21:19

They're asleep early because they work early haha, not really though Grin
There's honestly no one else that I haven't thought of, but I do appreciate suggestions. Maybe I could keep an eye on it overnight and if it doesn't get any worse just get the first bus there in the morning because they accept contactless. That isn't too risky is it?

Boysey45 · 13/03/2019 21:20

Just knock on the neighbours door and ask to lend £10.00 till tomorrow. You cant phone an ambulance for that! They wont send one anyway, you have to be dying nearly.
Or go on your local facebook page and ask if someone can lend you the same or run you down and you will pay them back tomorrow.

coffeeismyspinach · 13/03/2019 21:20

FFS. Get your sister to wake them up. Ambulances are not taxis.

killpop · 13/03/2019 21:20

I hate the warning MN say - the sensible thing is DON'T SEND MONEY TO PEOPLE YOU DON'T KNOW ON THE INTERNET.

FissionChip5 · 13/03/2019 21:21

What about your partner and in-laws?

Chickenvindasaag · 13/03/2019 21:21

You need to borrow the money from someone.
111 does not have access to transport. As a presumably competent adult you need to sort this out yourself without wasting the 400-800 pounds an ambulance will cost.

Kindofnewtothis · 13/03/2019 21:22

Oh Gosh, I wasn't looking for money! That really isn't the point of this thread, the point was is it stupid to ask for help with transport from 111 or shall I just chance it until tomorrow. I would never accept money from strangers on the internet!

OP posts:
Boysey45 · 13/03/2019 21:22

Haven't you got an overdraft facility on your bank account?
How old are you? if your really young like 18 then I can understand this a bit.

Chickenvindasaag · 13/03/2019 21:22

And why are you asking random strangers on the internet for medical advice? That's insane, utterly utterly insane.

WellThisIsShit · 13/03/2019 21:24

As another poster has said, the problem is that even if you do manage to get an ambulance to take you to a hospital, you’ll be discharged at some ungodly hour without any way to get yourself home.

They don’t keep people in because they can’t get a taxi home, they just leave them to work it out somehow.

There are cases of elderly very ill patients being discharged at 2-3am and just left in wheelchairs at a hospital entrance.

It happens and frequently I’m sorry to say. There is very little compassion as ‘compassion fatigue’ is basically the norm amongst so many NHS staff these days. And processes don’t have any safety nets built in for able bodied independent adults... actually make that for adults in general, regardless of their ability to help themselves.

Sooo, although for your health, I’d say the optimal decision would be to go to A&E sooner rather than later, you may want to weigh all the factors before you make that leap into the joys of late night NHS services... a tough call.

headhurtstoomuch · 13/03/2019 21:24

How would you get back from AE if you did call an ambulance to take you there? If you don't have the money and can't wake your parents up.

Nicknacky · 13/03/2019 21:24

How are we supposed to know if It is risky? Phone 111 back.

And how did you not realise you were so low on money?
