Aibu to ask what you cook in your slow cooker that isn’t stew

Have given into a long temptation and bought a slow cooker. Despite wanting one for ages - now have a bit of a “block” when working out what to cook in it. Have browsed online for inspiration but find that the main food sites don’t have obvious categories and the niche ones are full of bloody ads - so thought I would ask the wisdom of mumsnet.

Shamelessly place marking!

Joints of meat (pork and lamb are especially good), curry.

I have done Bolognse. Also I do beef /pork joints , and also slowed cooked chicken. Delicious .

WhatwouldRuthdo · 11/03/2019 14:10

Curry, chilli, gammon in cider, shredded beef. Big slow cooker fan here.

Spanielmadness · 11/03/2019 14:11

You can make cakes - a syrupy sauce is created with each cake - it works well

ScatteredMama82 · 11/03/2019 14:11

Curry, chilli

Yesicancancan · 11/03/2019 14:11

Yep to all of the above.

budgiegirl · 11/03/2019 14:12

Pork belly slices , slow cooked then finished in oven to crisp up the edges - really lovely.

BaronessBomburst · 11/03/2019 14:12

A joint of lamb.
Season, stud with garlic and rosemary, brown in a frying pan, then about 7 hours on low.

jaseyraex · 11/03/2019 14:13

Sticky toffee pudding in the slow cooker is divine!

TheFlis12345 · 11/03/2019 14:13

Ribs, chilli, casseroles.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 11/03/2019 14:14

Baked potatoes.

FATEdestiny · 11/03/2019 14:15

BBQ chicken - peppers, passata, worstershire sauce, dark soy sauce, stock, chicken breasts. Shred chicken about half hour before serving and stir spinach into mixture.

Lamb and Lentil - tinned tomatoes, chopped sweet potatoes, carrots, red lentils and pre-browned lamb (or left over from roasting joint)

Calic0 · 11/03/2019 14:15

Joints such as lamb shoulder are lovely in the slow cooker - and I’ve done pulled pork in there as well which worked really nicely. We always slow cook out gammon joint at a Christmas and then briefly finish it off with a glaze in a very hot oven.

Pulled pork! Buy a shoulder joint, marinate overnight in the fridge with one of those bbq rub sachets. Seal the joint in a hot pan and put in slow cooker for 8 hours on low. Peel off the big layer of fat, shred the pork with 2 forks and serve with brioche buns, coleslaw and lots of bbq sauce 😍😍😍

There are some risotto recipesc for a slow cooker too. I do a pork and rosemary one, looks like grey goop but it's really yummy!

SpoonBlender · 11/03/2019 14:19

Soups (including thai/chinese types). Curries come out wonderfully. Bolognese. Pork shoulder (for pulled). Chilli, beefy/porky/veggie. And a lot of classic stew.

Oysterbabe · 11/03/2019 14:20

I only use mine for stew and pork. I haven't enjoyed most recipes I've tried tbh.

Troels · 11/03/2019 14:22

Baked potatoes
Meatloaf
Braising steak.
