Have given into a long temptation and bought a slow cooker. Despite wanting one for ages - now have a bit of a “block” when working out what to cook in it. Have browsed online for inspiration but find that the main food sites don’t have obvious categories and the niche ones are full of bloody ads - so thought I would ask the wisdom of mumsnet.

Chilli, pulled pork, brisket, Bolognese, curry, lasagne, roast potatoes (yeah I didn't believe it was possible either but they come out so crispy!).

Cake, faux fudge (every family member got some for Christmas, they loved it), rice pudding, porridge.

I joined a few slow cooker groups on Facebook, some of the stuff they come up with is insane. Things you would never imagine cooking in a slow cooker but turn out amazing.

Sausage casserole.
Any sausages you have spare in the freezer and a tin of hotdogs.
Tin of chopped tomatoes and a carton of passata.
Two tins of bean salad.freezer
Lentils if you like em.
Onions, carrots, leeks or whatever veg needs using.
Chicken stock cube or pot, crushed garlic, chilli flakes to taste.
All in, eight hours.
Best with jackets and cheesy bread.

Coq au vin 🤤

Fry 6 chicken thigh fillets with some mushrooms and lardons till browned, add an onion and some garlic, 1/2 bottle of cheap wine (white or red), bit of stock, rosemary if you've got some in your garden. Cook for 6-8 hours and then when done reduce the sauce a bit on the hob. Serve with mash and greens.

SO GOOD. I'll probably do it with 8 thighs next time to get some leftovers.

Pulled pork, ribs, spag bol, caramelised onions and curries. However, my sous vide stick is the new kid on the block and the slow cooker is currently the less favoured child.

At the moment I really only use it to make slow cooker Butternut squash risotto . It's really the only slow cooker food I can say I truly like to eat.
