I was using my hair straighteners today, and realised that it's been 15 years since I purchased them. They are GHDs and I bought them in 2004. Used almost daily and they were £100. At the time I thought this was quite expensive. But working out cost per usage it's pretty amazing! They're still going strong.

What was the best money you ever spent on something and why?

I asked a friend, and she said it was the registration fee on a dating site, as she is now married with 2 children Smile

My DSis bought me a radio clock alarm with her first part time wage when she was 16 in 1975. The radio is a bit gubbed but the actual alarm works like a dream .

BMW covered in tiger fur
Even had a wagging tail.
£195 drove it for a year then took it on a final journey to Benidorm and scraped it.
Has been the most fun car so far.

NutElla5x · 10/03/2019 18:06

Without a doubt my dog. Cost me 150 quid nearly 16 years ago and is still going strong and giving me so much pleasure. Love him! Smile

My then partners dad offered to pay for a private abortion.... I told him where to shove it.
That was the best money never spent.

I bought my dd a cot (out of my own money) when she was 7 months as then dp said it was unnecessary and she didn’t need it... was the straw that broke the camels back. Haven’t seen him since. Best £40 I ever spent.

One of the best items was actually free and that was my cat 😍love her to bits.

Also the money spent on the trip when we got engaged and also our honeymoon!

Oh and £300 on a dyson hairdryer 😂

Circa £30k 4 x rounds of IVF. 2 x beautiful dc. Best money we've ever spent 😊

Northernlass99 · 10/03/2019 18:24

Dishwasher - saved my marriage!
Robot vacuum.
Mattress (memory foam one that comes in a box) and tempur pillows.
Professional teeth whitening.
Oh and my rescue dog of course, good boy.

serenoa · 10/03/2019 18:24

Hearing aids.

I bought them for a four-figure sum when my hearing was tested and the loss was only minor. There's research showing that wearing hearing aids as early as possible when loss is noticed, helps unaided hearing to last longer.

I'm a big music lover, go to concerts a lot; this is my best ever buy. If I couldn't listen to music and hear it well the light would go out of my life.

Girlking · 10/03/2019 18:25

My handheld Dyson ( although technically I didn’t actually spend money to get it , it was a present from my sons Christmas 2017) it’s completely changed my life 🙂

pinnerpearl · 10/03/2019 18:26

Fit Flop Inuk boots, wear them almost every day from October to April. Cost per wear incredible!

foreverchanging19 · 10/03/2019 18:28

My kindle.

GorkyMcPorky · 10/03/2019 18:30

@serenoa NHS aids are as good as any - when you get to the point that you're being talked into replacing them / can't have them serviced any longer, get a referral to audiology.

PetsFactor · 10/03/2019 18:33

Oh my shark vacuum

Stormwhale · 10/03/2019 18:34

5 years ago we spent £399 on a new massive corner sofa on eBay. It is still going strong and looks great! It is lasting better than far more expensive sofas we have had in the past. It's a very forgiving mink colour that doesn't show the dirt and its really comfy. Definitely money well spent.

Ninkaninus · 10/03/2019 18:41

Vibrator Wink

Certainly the best value cost per usage!

HavelockVetinari · 10/03/2019 18:42

IVF for my DS. He's the most wonderful baby anyone has ever had! 😍

Kirstyhewlett2018 · 10/03/2019 18:42

My dog, 2 cats and chameleon were my best purchases ever! They all keep me sane Grin

GrouchyKiwi · 10/03/2019 18:44

My EU passport. Meant I could live and work over here, where I met my husband. We now have 3 gorgeous children, a houseful of adorable pets, and a wonderful life (despite Brexit...)

BangGoesThatTheory · 10/03/2019 18:47

Also like Merry and other PPs - laser eye surgery.

I went from extremely short-sighted to perfect vision. Had it ten years ago and still think it’s a miracle when I open my eyes in the morning and can actually see clearly without having to scrabble for my specs.

mumoftinyterrors · 10/03/2019 18:47

The best money we ever spent was for the services of a team of private midwives for two of my pregnancies. We spent the best part of £13,000 but it was absolutely worth every penny.

BillyAndTheSillies · 10/03/2019 18:52

Our kitchen extension. It's turned our house in to an awesome, interesting space and has saved us having to move out in a few years time.

Less expensive, Dyson Airwrap. It's been a game changer and I haven't touched my straighteners since January.

Bibijayne · 10/03/2019 18:52

£7k to do a master's degree when I was 29. Best decision ever.
