To ask what the best money you ever spent was?

I was using my hair straighteners today, and realised that it's been 15 years since I purchased them. They are GHDs and I bought them in 2004. Used almost daily and they were £100. At the time I thought this was quite expensive. But working out cost per usage it's pretty amazing! They're still going strong.

What was the best money you ever spent on something and why?

I asked a friend, and she said it was the registration fee on a dating site, as she is now married with 2 children Smile

Kids education.

My mattress and pillows. Together cost about £1100 but so worth it. My bathroom. I absolutely love it. Our plumber suggested floor to ceiling tiles and it looks fab. I was in the new rainfall shower for about half an hour the first day!

House renovations (removing chimney breast and knocking through), made a too small house, a forever home. I appreciate it daily.

Smaller life changers are GHD's and handheld dyson.

weegiemum · 10/03/2019 10:18

Our marriage licence. 25 years and still going strong.

What anti allergy crossbreed? We have allergies but would love a dog

@onthedowns Rather than take the risk of a cross breed so called anti allergy dog, why not get a dog that is known to be anti allergy? There are lots of breeds out there that are very low or none allergy producing. If you want the super cute factor, look at the Havanese.

I thought most people who are allergic to dogs are allergic to their saliva rather than the hair?

PuppyMonkey · 10/03/2019 10:59

Another one here with those £100 GHDs from 2004. It was obviously a very good year.Grin

Solitary breaks to nice hotels in warm, sunny places.

Ten quid on a vibrator from lovehoney. Seven years later it's still going strong!

@FaithInfinity

I was today years old, when I discovered 'GHD' stands for good hair day! Shock

Cheers for that! I never knew that before today! Grin

A pillow I bought about five years ago.

Crackers1428 · 10/03/2019 11:28

The complete opposite of what I was doing basically! Not feeding on demand anymore, very structured routine, putting her in her own room. Insisting on putting her in a sleeping bag as they're still too little to regulate boy temp at that age. I thought it would be really cruel and involve a lot of crying but it absolutely wasn't. It all sounds really straightforward but I was so tired and mentally broke I couldn't see the wood for the trees and felt like nothing was working.

£400 on an electric bed with memory foam mattress 2years ago... It's changed my quality of life so much. It's amazing!!
Just being able to raise myself up to get out of bed on my own with the push of a button and also sleep on a mattress with a lot less pain.
I should have bought one years ago! Grin

My lovely GFS saddle for my horse. Was beautiful, comfortable and fitted him like a glove. Was gutted to sell it when he was PTS 😢😢😢

Phillips Lumea - about £250 four years ago. Complete life changer.

Expensive butter - the best 50p I spend is the one upgrading from ordinary butter to posh butter. Life is better with good bread and butter.

thecatneuterer · 10/03/2019 12:21

@PersonaNonGarter Please tell me more about the Philips Lumea. It looks like the sort of thing that is too good to be true and that would be for sale on a shopping channel and not really work. Does it really do what it claims?

My divorce was definitely the best money I ever spent. Followed by my car (15 years old and still the best car in the world), and my Mac.

Funny how you never regret certain purchases, isn't it? No matter how much money they cost.

TonightJosephine · 10/03/2019 12:56

@thecatneuterer

I've had one for a couple of months and it definitely works. I'm holding off on saying it's the best money I've ever spent just yet until I see how long lasting the effects are!

Hopeislost · 10/03/2019 13:00

Laser eye surgery, without a doubt! It was pricey (I went for one of the best surgeons in the country) but I'll break even in a few years. And I no longer have to faff about with glasses and contact lenses!

PersonaNonGarter · 10/03/2019 13:12

Lumea has really been brilliant, it took a while and it’s very boring but I love going swimming and it is so good for the 7/8 trouser thing. I wish it had been available sooner. £250 well spent!

Also, nice bedding and PJs. I got given a Toast organic cotton sheet for my birthdays few years back and it makes my heart sing so I now have lots of it. £££ Buy really worth it.

Iooselipssinkships · 10/03/2019 13:14

My £700 2004 bright yellow Seat Leon. It's called Meatloaf due to a similar looking licence plate. Having a car really opened up our lives and I love driving the family for a day out or a camping trip away.
£25 for my gorgeous tabby cat who is due to have her own kittens at the end of this month (which we plan on keeping most)
£40 car seat that saved my son's life when he was 1 after a horrible accident.
And the ££££s spend on going to Disneyworld in Orlando. I never thought I'd step on American soil but since being with DP he's made a lot of my dreams come true. Including visiting London, which again I thought would never happen for me.
£2 on a quiz machine that made me and the above mentioned DP realise we were meant to be. Gone all fking soppy!!
