I was using my hair straighteners today, and realised that it's been 15 years since I purchased them. They are GHDs and I bought them in 2004. Used almost daily and they were £100. At the time I thought this was quite expensive. But working out cost per usage it's pretty amazing! They're still going strong.

What was the best money you ever spent on something and why?

I asked a friend, and she said it was the registration fee on a dating site, as she is now married with 2 children Smile

My dog, and my dishwasher

Pure silk pillowcase, gives me smoother skin and hair when I wake up.

A set of Bobbi Brown make up brushes, just so lovely to use.

Baby Botox, makes me look much fresher and wide awake.

ModreB · 10/03/2019 01:23

My Instantpot. It was expensive, but so worth it.

Bloodybridget · 10/03/2019 01:35

My Salomon walking boots, I think they cost something like £140 in 2016. The best boots I've ever had. And completing my set of Antonia Forest novels - that cost a great deal more than the boots!

Steeve · 10/03/2019 01:37

Ooo also Actifry, quality IEMs & Headphones, NAS, and the private tests to see if I could altruistically donate a kidney.

A week before my wedding three years ago I was so fed up of dieting to get in to my dress I though sod it I'm buying myself a pack of crisps on the way home from work.

That 78p led to me winning a holiday of a life time which ended up being our honeymoon (which we had previously decided we couldn't afford).

We are talking 10 nights, full inclusive in a swanky apartment on the sandy sea with its own private pool and also our own dining area. Take me back!

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 10/03/2019 03:06

My Thermomix.

My Ragdoll cat

Last week I would have said my GHDs but I stood on them and snapped them 😢. So for me it's my robot hoover. I love him. He poodles around happily picking up crap all over the house. Then my eye bag removal surgery for £2k ten years ago after years of people helpfully telling me 'ooh you look tired' now no-one ever does. At the cheaper end the birch box monthly delivery to my house. I never get to go and mooch about at make up counters any more with work and DC taking up all my time so I really enjoy it.

FaithInfinity is correct about the GHDs. Absolutely everyone had them! When my parents found out how much I was spending on them they were a bit Shock

Redshoeblueshoe I love that £1.50 has made such a difference to you! Grin

I love your story, how incredible! Another reason why eating crisps is good for you!

Ds’s guitar. £10 from a charity shop, and music lessons to go with it. He’s hare brained and disorganised about many thanks, but has stuck at guitar long enough to gain confidence and competence. Apparently it’s a really good guitar too!

Baavet wool duvet, as recommended by MNers about 6 months ago.

I’d also say my MSc, but I got scholarships that covered everything, so not actually money I spent.?

Useful thing I use every day: handheld Dyson

Most loved "thing": my gorgeous old cat who died last year aged 19 (he was wonderful)

Not a thing as such: trips/hols with my lovely dc

I love this thread, thank you for starting it op.

wowfudge · 10/03/2019 07:44

I bought a screwdriver set from Muji - it has a handle and eight different heads. Cost about £8 but it has been so useful.

Also a really good mattress is worth every penny.

Greyhound22 · 10/03/2019 07:48

£60 donation fee for my dog. He's been the most loyal friend and brings me joy everyday.

Gothamgirl1970 · 10/03/2019 07:49

Weekly therapy for 3 years to deal with 4 decades old child abuse and 3 bereavements

Business class on longhaul flights. Worth every penny! No wait at check in, lounge access, flat beds and being able to sleep.

Loulou0 · 10/03/2019 07:54

A tummy tuck! After two huge babies and 2 x c sections my stomach was a mess.

Nacreous · 10/03/2019 08:32

My bed is pretty high on value: cost £375 reduced in the John Lewis sale and is so so comfy, I sleep amazingly.

YesQueen · 10/03/2019 08:46

£50 for this noisy ball of fluff from cats protection

Most 'sensible' answer is a bookshelf from Habitat. 15 years ago it seems an obscene a amount of money to spend on 'just' a shelf unit, but it's lasted so well we bought others (before being discontinued :-( ) and they look lovely and don't bow (read that, Ikea?).

Onthedowns · 10/03/2019 08:57

What anti allergy crossbreed? We have allergies but would love a dog
