To ask for what to feed unwanted guests?

We have a couple coming over on Sunday for lunch.

I don't want either of them here. Nor does DH.

But it's unavoidable. So it's happening. So no "just don't have them" comments please as that's a whole other drama.

Anyway. In the past (when we enjoyed their company) I've cooked various things, roasts, lasagne, buffet type bread/cheese/salad etc.

Well. They're all too much effort for me to go to for them now. Jacket potatoes maybe.

What's the easiest group meal I can throw out. That will feed us, but not make the kitchen and loads of crockery dirty please?

Maybe a big bowl of pasta and a salad?

Also interested to see how it's gone today!

MaryPopppins · 10/03/2019 09:36

I'll report back.

DH and I currently hoping the high winds put them off travelling......

Good luck! A good choice IMO, simple but ‘proper’ food.

Can’t understand the egg and chips suggestions, firstly cooking eggs for many would be a messy and time consuming, last minute job but mostly because it is absolutely lush and they don’t deserve such luxuries.

Easterbunnyiscomingsoon · 10/03/2019 14:22

Anyone hoping op has been digging a new patio.....?

Jux · 10/03/2019 15:19

Oh gosh, Chewbacca, you've just reminded me of why I no longer have eggs for supper unless everyone else is out! I used to so enjoy egg on beans on cheese on toast (or variations thereof) but nowadays we generally have to cater for 5 and I can't be doing with fried eggs for that many.

Thehop · 10/03/2019 17:31

Hope you e survived the horrids

Solange1973 · 10/03/2019 17:36

Unroll a pastry base. Cover with mustard, sliced cheddar and tomato slices, salt, pepper, oven 200 degrees, 20 minutes. Green salad on the side. Done.

Siriismyonlyfriend · 10/03/2019 17:37

I’d just put out sandwiches and cakes , .

MaryPopppins · 10/03/2019 17:39

They've just gone.

It was fine. Obviously regret their actions as VERY complimentary, helpful, brought gifts etc.

Well done @MaryPoppins. You’ve maintained the moral high ground and I hope they feel like shit 🤷🏼‍♀️

TigerTooth · 10/03/2019 17:41

Oh dob tell - why the fallout?

TapasForTwo · 10/03/2019 17:43

Great update

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 10/03/2019 17:44

Given what you’ve said and their not welcome I’d buy microwave meals
Present it served in the microwave container with jug of tap water
Telly on in the background,no dessert no fripperies.and heating turned right down
That ought to do it...

SimoneStrasser · 10/03/2019 17:45

Lipstick they’ve been and gone.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 10/03/2019 17:47

Been and gone, just like my ill times post it seems

Cloudly · 10/03/2019 17:49

I seriously would not be inviting them at all if you must pie and mash cheap and easy for lunch. To say to someone your parenting style has effected your child stating your child is weird is bang out of order.

ChocolateNoodle · 10/03/2019 18:03

Chicken thighs with tinned tomatoes and onions + mashed potatoes.
One chicken thigh per person
This is what SiL served us!

EbbandTheWanderingHearts · 10/03/2019 18:05

I did a temp nanny job and the family said they were having pasta for dinner and invited me to join them. They served up a plate of cooked spaghetti and asked if I'd like salt or pepper with it. No sauce, butter or cheese. Confused I'm glad you served something more appetising than that! Grin

daisychain01 · 10/03/2019 18:07

Starter : Supermarket own brand tomato soup, with Pom Bears floating on top.

Main course : Fray Bentos tinned pie, Supermarket oven chips (value)
Maybe some tinned mushy peas.

Pud : Petit Filou inc teaspoon to eat it with.

That should learn 'em

Teagoanngoanngoann · 10/03/2019 18:08

Dont cook. Wait till they get there. Hand them a take out menu. Get them to choose. Order food for 4 of you then when delivery person appears ask them for half the bill Wink

Easterbunnyiscomingsoon · 10/03/2019 18:09

Gifts?? We need a diagram imo.

XingMing · 10/03/2019 18:13

Jerusalem artichoke soup with lovely bread and a cheeseboard if it's lunch. If they are using you as a convenient lunch stop, this will ensure that they eat too much and fart their way (poisonously) through the more important engagement they are on their way to.

onthenaughtystepagain · 10/03/2019 18:16

Liver and onions.
They won't come back!!

Cooked properly that's a delicious meal, sadly it's almost always over cooked to death. You do nee to use at least lambs' liver though.

AcrossthePond55 · 10/03/2019 18:16

Glad things went smoothly. Hopefully this was a one time thing that won't be repeated.

ineedaknittedhat · 10/03/2019 18:19

Kidneys, tinned boiled potatoes and baked beans.
