Forgetting everything but the fact an innocent baby has died

AIBU to feel unbelievably sad that Shamima Bergum’s baby has died.

The poor mite simply didn’t have a chance in the world he was born in to.

Sad

ISIS fighters returning to the U.K. are assessed, prosecuted where there is evidence available (which must be extremely difficult to gather) and under surveillance if they are assessed to be a risk. If they aren’t being watched, presumably they have been deradicalised and assessed as not being a risk.

Bluestitch · 10/03/2019 15:36

Can you please show where only 10% have been investigated please? That directly contradicts what Sajid Javid told parliament last month, which is that all those returning had been assessed for risk level.

I don’t think you’ll get a response bluestitch!

Bluestitch · 10/03/2019 15:38

I'm getting used to that on this thread!

BertrandRussell · 10/03/2019 15:41

“No, it isn’t a completely different situation, @ Bertrand.”

Yes it is. Begum was a groomed child. The Iqbal sisters were adults.

slithytove · 10/03/2019 15:42

She wasn’t groomed

Weetabixandshreddies · 10/03/2019 15:42

In what way was she groomed?

slithytove · 10/03/2019 15:43

This is grooming

www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/child-abuse-and-neglect/grooming/

It doesn’t apply to SB.

BertrandRussell · 10/03/2019 15:44

My understanding is that all have been investigated but only 10% prosecuted.

slithytove · 10/03/2019 15:45

This is Islamic radicalisation
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radicalization

More accurate I feel.

Does not excuse her behaviour

Crappygilmore · 10/03/2019 15:54

Im sorry but if she wanted top notch medical attention then she should have stayed in the uk. Yes 3 children have died and thats tragic. If. They all existed . We have no proof. The way the western isis supporters are treating the genuine muslim women in these camps is revolting. They are bullys and have not changed sides all of a sudden, theyre just fucked because isis is all but over. I am all for letting genuine refugees into our country to help them build a better life. But these people are the snakes in the grass. They know they have to get back to the west . So screw them. I would let 10000 genuine refugees in if we throw all the isis brides in to the shit they got themselves into. The media shouldn't give her another inch of written space.

Justanotherlurker · 10/03/2019 16:10

Clearly the propaganda machine is doing it's job.

Typical...

It is tragic that babies died. But I would like to know why it's the British government's responsibility. Those kids were Dutch too. You can bet your bottom dollar (guilder, euro, whatever) that the Dutch media isn't creating all this angst over it.

I don't think the British government should have taken away her citizenship and as I said on another thread feel sure it would not have happened if she had been white.

Perhaps her family should have let her assimilate into British society?

MadCatEnthusiast · 10/03/2019 16:25

In theory but they were never formally recognised by the father as the parents were not legally married. He needed to do that in NL so they were never legally Dutch but they were all British by default.

MadCatEnthusiast · 10/03/2019 16:25

Bold fail, ah.

TightPants · 10/03/2019 17:29

I’m interested as to how some people think her baby could have been brought to safety and the right medical attention whilst on the camp in Syria?

I’ve worked in paediatrics, including neonatal care.
I’ve seen difficulties in transporting critically ill babies (for various reasons) from one London hospital to another.

I’m very interested as to how some people on this thread would have managed this from Syria?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/03/2019 20:58

I don't personally think that withdrawing Shamima's citizenship is the right thing to do - but it made no difference to her child's fate as she had no way of being speedily repatriated anyway.

This ^

A lot of babies have died - every death of an innocent child is an obscenity. However, even if Shamima's citizenship had not been withdrawn (and I personally think that this was an unlawful action) she and her child could not have been repatriated in time.

derxa · 10/03/2019 21:01

I'll go back to my original thoughts. A baby and many other babies have died. A tragic waste of life. Sad

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/03/2019 21:07

BigChoc

That link was harrowing to read - and as the Irish nurse said, she didn't tell of the worst because it was too dreadful.

How can anyone treat another person - particularly a vulnerable woman or child with such cruelty? It beggars belief.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/03/2019 21:10

In an ideal world someone could have gone & rescued the baby but sadly we don’t live in an ideal world. She is in an area of the world with no diplomatic link to the uk & no consular access.

A world of chaos and cruelty that she contributed to building. It has comeback and bitten her - and her poor child.

acciocat · 10/03/2019 21:25

Schadenfraude- exactly. And just because the Caliphate is all but defeated for the moment doesn’t mean this is endgame...there is highly likely to be a resurgence as soon as the opportunities arise. Which is exactly why Begum- who by her own admission does not regret the beheadings, the vile crimes against humanity - is a dangerous individual.

Flobochin · 11/03/2019 07:16

Could be fake news to get sympathy to get her citizenship back. Wouldn't trust anything this evil person has to say.

jasjas1973 · 11/03/2019 07:42

SB is the author of her own misfortune and is the one responsible for her children's death - however, SB is the UKs responsibility and should have kept her citizenship, if its pursued through the courts, she'll get it back regardless.

However, my sympathy is for the victims of IsIS, the children, the Yazidis, the Kurdish fighters.... one 5yo (in a refugee camp) was asked, by a journalist, what he wished for, he said "i want to go to heaven and see my mummy and daddy again"

TightPants · 11/03/2019 08:09

It’s estimated that 55,000 Syrian babies and children have died as a result of this conflict since it began.
A figure that is so huge it’s hard to comprehend.
