metro.co.uk/2019/03/07/boy-19-sues-abortion-clinic-giving-ex-termination-wishes-8855393/

I don't even know what to say to this. I made the mistake of reading some of the comments about it on Facebook too.

Surely this can't stand up in court?

OP posts:

Unless she was raped it doesnt even count. 16 is not a child l.

LunafortJest · 09/03/2019 21:47

She wouldn't have gotten pregnant if he did ejaculate inside her.

LunafortJest · 09/03/2019 21:48

*didn't

NotACleverName · 09/03/2019 21:52

You can say "I'm a misogynist" in three words, you know.

RockyFlintstone · 09/03/2019 21:56

If there was a way that he could carry and give birth to that baby instead of her having an abortion, I bet the abortion would look at lot more appealing to him.

He doesn't get to control that woman's body. No.

FermatsTheorem · 09/03/2019 21:59

In most US states, the age of consent is 18, not 16 as it is in the UK. So yes, it probably did count as statutory rape in the state in which it took place. (Mind you about 1/3 of states have laws which make it okay so long as you marry your rapist - in some states there is no minimum age of marriage.)

Driftingthoughlife · 09/03/2019 21:59

Some of you really need to come out of dark ages.
I really hope no other women goes anywhere near this dickhead and he never gets chance to impregnate again

Deadbudgie · 09/03/2019 22:00

I keep seeing comments from people who seem to be confusing a young girls with a testtube and incubator/control freak man’s puppet

I know there are some stupid people in this world... but seriously! Just engage your brain and think what you are actually saying!

GabsAlot · 09/03/2019 22:01

poor girl and alabama is a bakwards state theyre not with the rest of socety

Driftingthoughlife · 09/03/2019 22:01

Also if any of you actually think this tosser would have actually stepped up and raised a baby then you are plain stupid. He can’t even hold down a job

Sheogorath · 09/03/2019 22:04

If she's underage, can't he be prosecuted for statutory rape? He's the one who broke the law. Not her.

PurpleDaisies · 09/03/2019 22:06

it is heartbreaking for a father who wants his and his other half's baby to live

It is. It doesn’t justify forcing a woman to remain pregnant against her will.

LunafortJest · 09/03/2019 22:06

"If there was a way that he could carry and give birth to that baby instead of her having an abortion, I bet the abortion would look at lot more appealing to him."

Exactly. I've seen it written several times that 'if men could get pregant, they would make abortion mandatory'. I think that saying is true. It very easy to dictate another person's body when you are not that one that has to carry to term and give birth.

CheshireChat · 09/03/2019 22:11

I think it would be an amazing twist for him to get charged with statutory rape!

However, how likely is that to happen?

HurricaneCathy · 09/03/2019 22:16

I think it is very straightforward yes two people have the right to choose whether they have a baby and for a man that means finding someone who wants a baby and then impregnating that person not someone who doesn’t want to be pregnant....

adiposegirl2 · 09/03/2019 22:18

Marking my place for reference purposes.

CheshireChat · 09/03/2019 22:19

Also, for the people saying she shouldn't have had sex if she didn't want a baby... Why didn't he abstain from sex as his then GF wasn't willing to keep the baby. He could've clarified that beforehand.

Oh wait. He was too busy pressuring her to have sex with him.

@adiposegirl2 If you click the 'Watch this thread' function above where you add your message, you can still see it for reference purposes without posting on it.

LunafortJest
Thanks for that

Iflyaway · 09/03/2019 22:31

If she didn’t want to risk a pregnancy, she could have abstained.

Oh FFS! Her father said he almost forced her into sex.

Give him credit for wanting to stand by his mistake and look after the baby.

What a joke, the guy is 19 and unemployed! Can't even look after himself!

Wonder which pro-life group is paying for all of this.

There's a link on The Guardian's story about this that I read this morning plus all the American comments. Luckily most were pro-choice. Even wondering if it was statutory rape. (She was 16 which is the age of consent but the sexual relationship may have started when she was 15...).

Fuck! Handmaid's Tale indeed. Alive and well in the 21st Century.

The most ridiculous thing about this is claiming a 6-week-old foetus is an "autonomous being".

Iflyaway · 09/03/2019 22:43

She wouldn't have gotten pregnant if he did ejaculate inside her.

This makes no sense. Anyway....

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Your chance of becoming pregnant from pre-cum may be slim, but it can still happen. Sperm can still be present in the urethra and mix with pre-cum that's released before ejaculation. If you use the withdrawal method, keep in mind that there's a 14 to 24 percent failure rate

LaurenOrdering · 10/03/2019 00:00

On one hand the state of Alabama wanting to limit & possibly ban abortions.
On the other hand the state of Alabama having & using the death penalty. Lax gun control too.
Cognitive Dissonance occurring here if Alabama is saying life is sacred.

My personal opinion is the woman is the one that gets pregnant therefore she decides whether to continue with that pregnancy.
No one should be able to force a woman to have a baby or force her to have a termination.
Finally to those who oppose abortion because life is sacred.....do you kill flies or spiders? Do you eat meat? Why is one form of animal life more important than the other considering that humans are not the only sentient species on this planet.

I hope the poor girl in this case counter sues her ex boyfriend for statutory rape & also sues the organisation (that is assisting/encouraging/using the boyfriend to push forward their own agenda) for emotional distress.

millymae · 10/03/2019 00:10

Haven’t read the whole 21 pages but google Paton v. British Pregnancy Advisory Service Trustees and Another [1978] as it may be of interest .

squeekums · 10/03/2019 00:19

How on earth did you get that interpretation from the (carefully edited) quote from one of my posts?!
lmao cute, no careful edit dear, thats your full sentence. Which implies that it's easy being a woman and since we pro choice that we must hate or find it hard being a women. No, pro choice does not mean we deny being women or even hate it. Means we think every woman gets to control her body and any risks it's under, like pregnancy. You talk like an American forced birther, can see straight through your wordy b.s..

Abortion = infanticide, sadly. That’s why there are campaigns against it.

Liar, its a medical procedure for an unwanted or unviable condition known as pregnancy.
Infanticide happens to a born child

differentnameforthis · 10/03/2019 00:28

@ThunderStorms She cold hand it over to him like a (surrogate) and fight for the law to absolve her of all future responsibilities

Should she wear this while pregnant too?
