metro.co.uk/2019/03/07/boy-19-sues-abortion-clinic-giving-ex-termination-wishes-8855393/

I don't even know what to say to this. I made the mistake of reading some of the comments about it on Facebook too.

Surely this can't stand up in court?

What mortal being has a right to destroy the process and f a human life to form?

The born, more often than not fully grown woman who has a right to bodily autonomy.

If you think abortion is murder -but “cases of rape are different”, what is that difference?

Interestingly, Bertrand, whenever I've asked this question of a pro-forced birther I've never gotten a straight answer. Has anyone for that matter?

PotatoesDieInHotCars · 09/03/2019 19:30

I'm guessing the reason will be because she's a victim in one case and a raging whore in the other who should just suck up her punishment and have a baby she doesn't want.

LunafortJest · 09/03/2019 19:33

I think they know, QuirkyClark, but they are deceitful and will argue black is white because they want to believe it. They lie and manipulate. Its how they operate. They have no scruples. They know full well what they are saying and doing. They just want to con people, to prey on people's emotions, in order to control a woman's body. How they do that is by calling an embryo a baby, a foetus a baby, by calling abortion Infanticide (laughing at the absurdity and sheer desperation of that one), by talking about 'body parts' despite in most cases there is not even anything resembling a body. And by showing pictures of advanced pregnancies as an example of the average termination.

They have no compunction about lying and misrepresenting, nor about offending and minimising miscarriages or even the murder actual babies that exist. To them, the ends justify the means.

What I don't get though, is why they never learn? Insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result. The public of Catholic Ireland, for goodness sake, saw through the lies and deceit, and the emotive languages and images. Their tricks aren't working any more. You'd think they'd work that out and change tactics. Not repeat the same ones that we are all desensitised to and immune to, now. Especially in this day and age of the internet and information being available. In some ways I hope they don't change their M.O though, as it ensures they lose basically every time.

AngelinaNeurosurgeon · 09/03/2019 19:38

If it is decided that a man has the right to dictate to his pregnant partner that she cannot have an abortion presumably it follows that a man will have the same power to insist that she has an abortion, if that's what he wants. Scary, either way.

blueskiesovertheforest · 09/03/2019 19:39

Gromit78 you ask what mortal being has the right to destroy the process - does this mean that you are also opposed to contraception? What about the morning after pill?

AbsentmindedWoman · 09/03/2019 19:41

I'm still waiting to hear the forced-birthers expound upon the morning after pill.

Yabbers · 09/03/2019 19:44

she needs to realise that actions have consequences
Having an abortion is a pretty severe consequence.

Abortion = infanticide, sadly.
Infanticide = illegal. Abortion is not.

Deadbudgie · 09/03/2019 19:50

And every day we draw closer to the handmaidstale becoming reality!

Childbirth is a leading cause of death of women of childbearing age even in developed countries

Physical trauma from pregnancy/childbirth is common and in many cases life long

Hormonal changes caused by pregnancy can have long lasting impact inc spd, secondary infertility, contribution to certain cancers

Pnd and ptsd relaying to childbirth can have devastating consequences including suicide

These things make the decision as to whether or not to terminate very much a woman’s choice. Yes it must be sad for a man, but no reasonable person would expect a woman to risk all these things and more for a baby she did not want

PolarBearkshire · 09/03/2019 20:09

Idiot haha womans body is her body so she can do whatever she likes.

More info on the Washington Post website:

The father of the pregnant teenager, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to protect the privacy of him and his daughter, said the family is "distraught” over the lawsuit. He said his daughter was 16 and a high school senior, and that Magers was 19 and unemployed when they discovered that she was pregnant.

“We had a long discussion over what she was going to do when she got pregnant. And we said we would support her either way,” he said, adding, “They weren’t married, and I felt legally it was her right to make that decision.”

He said his daughter and Magers are no longer together. "I knew he was pressuring my daughter to have sex, and I can’t believe we are here now.”

So according to her father his daughter was coerced into having sex. And there you have it, this is why you can't argue that 'men are allowed a say in whether a woman carries on with pregnancy or has an abortion - apart from if she was raped clause'. It's the classic your word against his argument and we know fine well how often that works in the woman's favour...

CheshireChat · 09/03/2019 20:25

It doesn't sound like he's so much upset at not being a father as not being asked permission.

He could've always campaigned for more involved single dads and support surrounding this if it weren't about removing women's rights.

bubblegumunicorn · 09/03/2019 20:25

I think people need to realise she was at school! Thats a huge thing to go through at school and it can set people on a path to poverty! Especially in america where education is so expensive! She likely would have dropped out of school and not got her diploma! I think everyone on here saying she should have handed it over to him is shocking it's not as though it is that easy to just hand a baby over and go back to school or everyday life! Look at Cate and Ty from teen mom for how traumatic it is to give up a child at 16!

pointythings · 09/03/2019 20:30

Asking about mortal beings implies that you think there are such things as immortal ones, Gromit. Which ins turn suggests you are coming at this from a religious angle. That immediately and completely invalidates your point - not everyone shares your conviction that there are any deities, and you have no right to impose the consequences of your religious beliefs on those of us who do not share them.

Ginburee · 09/03/2019 20:32

It is so frightening reading about this- some of the worst most vile comments I have seen on social media have been from women.
In no way should a man be able to control the outcome of a woman's pregnancy. It can be hard enough for a woman to go through the procedure without having her name slurred in the media and a controlling partner around. This was in the UK in 2001:

Why else would an unemployed 19 year old be suing anyone? 🤔

deifersmum · 09/03/2019 21:06

Just read the article, sounds like it could go all the way to the supreme court. If the decision goes with him that will set womens right back centuries, why do men have the final say over our bodies?
When I wanted to be sterilized after two children I had to get my husband's per.isdion but he could go for a vasectomy without my knowledge, that was some time ago and I don't know if it's changed or not but it's WRONG on so many levels.

Will be keeping an eye on this case could prove defining.

Fowles94 · 09/03/2019 21:23

Maybe she shouldn't of get pregnant with half of his baby.

pointythings · 09/03/2019 21:31

Not another one! Hmm

S1naidSucks · 09/03/2019 21:33

Maybe she shouldn't of get pregnant with half of his baby.

Maybe he can through go the second half of the pregnancy, then, with all the discomfort and risks. 😒

Mysteries · 09/03/2019 21:37

it is heartbreaking for a father who wants his and his other half's baby to live

S1naidSucks · 09/03/2019 21:38

Don’t worry, pointythings, that poster just likes to plop insulting comments into discussions, then moves on.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 09/03/2019 21:39

Yeah well he can find another half who wants a baby just as much as him.

NotACleverName · 09/03/2019 21:40

Maybe she shouldn't of get pregnant with half of his baby.

Maybe he should have kept his dick in his pants and not pressurised a 16 year old into sex. But, alas, here we are @Fowles94.

S1naidSucks · 09/03/2019 21:41

it is heartbreaking for a father who wants his and his other half's baby to live

It is heartbreaking for a young woman to learn that the man she had sex with would have forced her to continue a pregnancy and go through the labour.
