metro.co.uk/2019/03/07/boy-19-sues-abortion-clinic-giving-ex-termination-wishes-8855393/

I don't even know what to say to this. I made the mistake of reading some of the comments about it on Facebook too.

Surely this can't stand up in court?

@ThunderStorms so having RTT can I just clarify something...You feel sorry for the man in this situation? You think a decision to terminate a pregnancy should have the agreement of the man and the woman? You feel that it is reasonable to take a woman to court if she has an abortion?

JacquesHammer · 09/03/2019 16:32

You feel that it is reasonable to take a woman to court if she has an abortion?

See this is the crux for me. Not only has a 16 year old girl found out she was pregnant and had an abortion, which may have been emotionally wearing for her. She now has to potentially answer to a man, who thinks HE should be permitted to have an opinion over her uterus.

ThunderStorms · 09/03/2019 16:37

You feel sorry for the man in this situation? Yes to any man who has lost a baby to abortion that they wanted

You think a decision to terminate a pregnancy should have the agreement of the man and the woman? Ideally, yes. Rape is obviously different.

You feel that it is reasonable to take a woman to court if she has an abortion? Totally depends on the circumstances, but in this world of billions of people, there will be cases where it could be justified.

Shades of grey.

How do you all know the girl wasn’t forced to have an abortion by her parents?

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 09/03/2019 16:42

How do you all know the girl wasn’t forced to have an abortion by her parents?

Quote below from the Metro link:

The girl’s dad said her family was ‘really distraught’ by the lawsuit, and said that the family had told her they’d support whatever decision she made after getting pregnant.

JacquesHammer · 09/03/2019 16:42

Ideally, yes

Not his uterus, he has no say whatsoever.

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 09/03/2019 16:42

Totally depends on the circumstances, but in this world of billions of people, there will be cases where it could be justified.

Jesus fucking wept. No woman should face a day in court because she didn't want to keep a baby. For whatever reason.
If this was made law, there would be nothing, nothing at all to stop rapists, abusers, torturers to sue the women that aborted their children.

There have been after all, cases where rapists have been given visitation rights to the children born from that rape.

The world is indeed a fucked up place, let's not fuck it up even more by giving another person full control over another's body, and then threaten court when they don't comply.

ThunderStorms · 09/03/2019 16:43

Of course, they’d say that to the paper, wouldn’t they? I’m trying to point out that no one actually knows what goes on behind closed doors.

The amount of projection on this thread towards the boy (hatred, bile and name calling) has been ridiculous.

JacquesHammer · 09/03/2019 16:45

I’m trying to point out that no one actually knows what goes on behind closed doors

So by the same token the male involved might be coercive, abusive, violent?

ThunderStorms · 09/03/2019 16:47

Maybe.

But according to this thread, she’s a poor, poor sweet innocent girl and he’s a hateful evil man.

Silly.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 09/03/2019 16:49

Also I don't see how you can claim posters on here are pro forced abortion (really?!) As a parent I'd be really worried about a teenage daughter going through pregnancy and childbirth - its well know that teen pregnancies and birth are generally high risk due to physical immaturity.

JacquesHammer · 09/03/2019 16:50

and he’s a hateful evil man

I think he’s hateful absolutely. She’s possibly gone through a very traumatic time and he is under some misguided notion he actually had any rights to her uterus whatsoever.

He’s either hateful or fucking thick.

If it wasn’t so appalling that it had actually gone to lawsuit level (where she’s referred to as “mother” and the foetus is “baby”) it would be funny that he thought he had any right to a say whatsoever.

BertrandRussell · 09/03/2019 16:52

“The amount of projection on this thread towards the boy (hatred, bile and name calling) has been ridiculous.”

Well, seeing an abortion clinic for not consulting him about a woman’s abortion seems pretty hateful to me.Not sure any projection is necessary.

ThunderStorms · 09/03/2019 16:52

🙄🙄🙄

YourSarcasmIsDripping · 09/03/2019 16:52

The amount of projection on this thread towards the boy (hatred, bile and name calling) has been ridiculous.

Maybe that's because he's suing people that only did their job within the confined of the law and helped a 16 yo when she needed it. Maybe it's because that he thinks that him and other men have the right to decide what happens to another's body.
Maybe it's because he's not the one going through all the risks associated with pregnancy and birth.
Maybe because he's actually hoping to create a precedent that would prevent women and girls to access abortions on the say so of a male.

NKFell · 09/03/2019 16:55

Thank you for answering ThunderStorms. I think it’s reasonable to feel sorry for the man but ultimately it must be a woman’s choice, safe, free and legal. I think taking a woman to court is ALWAYS going to be wrong.

If she has been forced into anything then the onus is on her to take whoever forced into either going ahead or terminating. I can’t see a reasonable argument for why anyone should be able to take the woman to court for this.

JacquesHammer · 09/03/2019 16:57

I can’t see a reasonable argument for why anyone should be able to take the woman to court for this

Well quite. I mean what retribution is there? He can’t have the foetus back. What money is he owed?

But it sets an appalling precedent that men could force a woman to be an incubator.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 09/03/2019 16:58

But according to this thread, she’s a poor, poor sweet innocent girl and he’s a hateful evil man.

Unsurprisingly hes not covering himself in glory dragging up a lawsuit and all the publicity surrounding it because he couldn't force his ex girlfriend to carry on with the pregnancy and childbirth.

Also 'poor poor sweet innocent girl' - you really don't like that we have sympathy for her. Yet lots for him.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 09/03/2019 16:58

*Yet you have lots for him.

BertrandRussell · 09/03/2019 17:00

“'poor poor sweet innocent girl”

She might be a horrible malicious racist puppy kicker for all we know. She still has the absolute right to bodily autonomy.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 09/03/2019 17:02

Exactly BertandRussell

JacquesHammer · 09/03/2019 17:03

She might be a horrible malicious racist puppy kicker for all we know. She still has the absolute right to bodily autonomy

Absolutely this.

countrygirl99 · 09/03/2019 17:08

He may have been as sweet as pie 2 years ago but he is certainly acting carefully now. He is being judged on his actuall actions.

Symposium123 · 09/03/2019 17:28

I guess this is fairly logical if you’re going to legalise abortion. Both parents should have to give consent to kill the baby.

CheshireChat · 09/03/2019 17:33

ThunderStorms but you don't seem to have thought about this beyond 'man wants baby, give baby to man'.

He was a kid himself, how would he have been able to afford to heavily support her especially as medical care in the US isn't free at point of use.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 09/03/2019 17:34
