Is this inappropriate?

Won’t identify myself as keen to garner responses.

Person A organises free drinks at a pub near their work for a workplace hobby society they are a part of eg Watersports Club. They invite B and C from their actual work. B and C have nothing in common with the others (both female, the others aren’t; fair bit younger than the others etc) but end up staying on for drinks at the event until late into the evening. They mainly chat to each other but also mingle with the group.

Has anyone behaved inappropriately in these circumstances?

Yes - if it's a meeting for the club members, paid for by club then you don't just rock up with a couple of mates from work, no matter what the age or gender, to freeload free drinks.
Even if drinks weren't free, if it's a meet-up of hobby group then A should check with all members to see if they mind some workmates joining. A was unreasonable.

Bloody hilarious Grin

AmIthatbloodycold · 08/03/2019 19:04

Is there an in joke that I'm missing or is this thread as pointless as it seems ?

Joebloggswazere · 08/03/2019 19:07

iwrotethissongfor well that’s your interpretation, and other people have their interpretation. As Op hasn’t given any more info, any one of them could be right.

Al2O3 · 08/03/2019 19:12

Did B and C drink copious amounts of fluid but not actually piss on the male group that invited them and pay for all their drinks in the hope of....ahem... 'watersports'?

Iwrotethissongfor · 08/03/2019 19:16

Joebloggs I’m not suggesting I am right, only pointing out that there were a lot of comments where only imagined role seemed to be “wife of”. Oh whose wife complained, whose wife are you etc.

RoxieHeart · 08/03/2019 19:17

So you are A's wife. A invited B and C even though everyone else who was going are older males and now you think he was inappropriate because you are jealous that he was mingling with younger women while you were at home.
You don't think A had any reason to invite them as they didn't have anything in common with anyone else.
Please tell me I'm right this thread is extremely stupid.

Aubaine · 08/03/2019 19:23

iwrotethissongfor The OP states that B & C are female but “the others” are not. I’m reading that as A is not female but it’s not fully clear.

itswinetime · 08/03/2019 19:25

Is the question were b & c unreasonable to to go to an event and drink for free? No they were invited and they went they did nothing wrong! Likely the saw a chance for free booze and took it!

Or is the question was A inappropriate to invite 2 younger females to an unrelated event just to get to spend time with them/get them drunk? Then possibly depends on what kind of person a

SchadenfreudePersonified · 08/03/2019 19:25

LivingBoy

You have totally outed the OP!

Little Dribbling has only ONE watersports club (I won't say what it is, but it brings a new meaning to the term "swan-upping"!) and even though you called them by the pseudonyms Bernard and Betty, everyone will know that they are Maurice and Margery.

You should be ashamed of yourself! Is there no privacy on MN anymore? No respect for confidentiality?

As the Keynote speaker at the Lemon Curd Celebration I felt that my well-researched and beautifully powerpoint-ed address was ruined - RUINED - by the eye-rolling and nostril-flaring from my audience as they silently condemned those two trollops the Grocery Girls.

It was the nadir of my career as a Lemon Curd historian, and I will NEVER darken Dribbling - Little or Large again!

Mummyoflittledragon · 08/03/2019 19:26

Op forgot to mention B and C arrived wearing only bikini bottoms and nipple tassels then proceeded to try to pawn of their butt plugs and erotica aimed at the male clientele.

simplyhaving · 08/03/2019 19:30

Am I the only one picturing LivingBoy's post played out in Playmobil?

Iwrotethissongfor · 08/03/2019 19:34

Yes Aubaine I read that and agree not clear: A could still be a woman although “the rest” were not. I don’t really care much as it’s a dull thread but just thought it was just odd that there was a strong “some wee wifie complaining about female company” response as seemed a bit misogynistic. Like others, I thought it was more about proper use of club funds and that she was probably A (and the only female member) or B or C worrying she’d been bit rude.

RainbowWaffles · 08/03/2019 19:35

It’s a workplace hobby club drinks event. Only people from the workplace hobby club should be invited. A is wrong to invite two randoms from work that aren’t involved in the hobby club. It’s also a bit weird that they turned up to an event clearly not for them and stayed late drinking free drinks, bit of an imposition. Can see why people would be annoyed. I have seen people get annoyed by less on here.

llangennith · 08/03/2019 19:47

I'm quite bored but not bored enough to give a shit about this.

Joebloggswazere · 08/03/2019 19:47

Seeing as it was A who organised the event, I’d say A could invite whomever he/she wanted. I don’t think anything inappropriate is going on here.
Unless it’s exactly what livingboy said and then it’s all sorts of interesting inappropriate!

gamerwidow · 08/03/2019 19:53

Leave B with the fox and person C can go over with the chicken?

Siriismyonlyfriend · 08/03/2019 19:54

Sometimes I think I’ve seen everything on mn and then a beaut like this comes along.

CasanovaFrankenstein · 08/03/2019 20:04

Is this thread based on:

PlatypusPie · 08/03/2019 20:19

Did anyone fall off the jetty after the enjoyment of drinks ? (Assuming here was riverside pub re hobby) Was appropriateness concerned with the incorrect rescue drill , as clearly defined in The Club Rulebook, and the failure of the assigned lifeguarding volunteers to enact Rule 6 b ? Can see why that has gripped the Committee ever since.

DancerOnIce · 08/03/2019 20:23

Does anyone else find it really confusing when posters call everyone in their story A, B, C etc? Maybe it’s just me? I’d be able to follow the OP so much easier if they were just given names

Waterlemon · 08/03/2019 20:24

We need more context to actually answer the question.

However, I’m going for the Bernard theory and OP is Betty.

MothExterminator · 08/03/2019 20:27

Well...not really inappropriate, but is sounds like a bunch of middle age men decided to invite two cute girls half their age to make their geeky club meeting more fun... and then told them it is free drinks... If one of my male friends had done it, I would have teased him about it.

If a colleague had done it, I would have been a bit concerned for the girls and an HR nightmare in case one of the “gentlemen” had too much drink and got a bit too friendly...

Yesicancancan · 08/03/2019 20:29

You are annoyed that a member invited two non members to enjoy free drinks in exchange for exhibiting their young loveliness late into the evening. You are Yabu, do you not trust your dh?

hiddeneverything · 08/03/2019 20:32

I have just rtft and will never get that time back. Aibu to be sad about this?
